Any news on the Olive Films? Would Shout even put out another set at this point?

At this point I just don’t see it happening.
Whatever does happen happens far as I’m concerned.

Any news on the Olive Films? Would Shout even put out another set at this point? Yeah, you kind of wonder if the ship has sailed on MST3K DVD box sets. At this point, more likely is just big release parties on Gizmoplex.com?

Probably. But on the other hand... Shout still does release physical DVDs/blurays of old genre movies through Scream Factory. If they could get the Paramount titles that Olive had as a bulk deal why not package them together as a DVD set for the MST crowd? I'm sure they make pretty good money on the mark-up in price.

I'm sure they would. They know the fanbase, and are certainly aware they're one of the labels keeping physical media alive at this point. People want pressed hard copies of any and all available episodes.

Yeah I definitely think Paramount would require these releases to be physical if they gave them the green light to use them on their own or in their Mst3k versions.
My only guess at this point is either they just lost interest or another company got the rights to those three films.

A shame to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.

I wonder about the handful of titles that he might have still controlled besides Rocketship X-M. Image released the American cut of First Spaceship on Venus on DVD 20ish years ago as part of 'The Wade Williams Collection', for example. This might unblock a bunch of sci-fi titles to get some much-needed TLC on disc.

Besides the obvious Rocketship XM, this also frees up his fraudulent claimed ownership over the Ed Wood movies.
Surprising. I thought he had another decade in him.
Unfortunately I'm quite sure he left some poison pills in his will in regards to his most favorite possessions such as RXM: they can't be freely distributed or they must be protected or can't be sold to certain people etc etc.
If I were Wade Williams Jr I would be knocking down shout or other DVD distributors doors trying to sell or license. After 25 years, I can finally start making money on some of the films he had the most possessive feelings over.

Another website reporting it, this time from a more neutral perspective that Tom Weaver's boot-kissing. I appreciate this story from the comments, seems to sum Wade up pretty well: "In college in Lawrence KS (near Kansas City), I was playing some film he claimed the rights to, booked through some other supplier of PD titles (Murray Glass or somebody, can't remember what the film was; maybe Plan 9). I got a call from him, very polite, asking if I would mind if after the screening, he had a federal marshall seize the print. Um. yes, I very much would mind that!"

I mean at this point who knows what the future holds….. this could open the door for X-M (I imagine probably right now will just be a digital release if anything), it might still have that annoying gate-keeping protection from ever allowing the MST episode to see the light of day again….. but we’ll see what happens.

I assume whoever gets the rights to the movie after this will want to finally cash in on the film before it inevitably enters the public domain in a couple decades and MST3K ends up getting it anyway. That's assuming he actually had legitimate rights to the film and not just the rights to his modified version, which MST3K didn't feature on the show. I remember him saying that stuff about the "SCI-FI community" being equally upset about the Rocketship XM episode. It really makes me wonder who he was talking about. Most of the people in my bubble haven't heard of it, ironically due to its lack of distribution for the past two decades. Everyone who has heard of it only knows about it because of the MST3K episode. Is there some secret group of 80 year old SCI-FI fans who do everything they can to "protect" this movie from a puppet show and Wade was just their ring leader? It's bizarre.

I can’t help but wonder truthfully if other people in said community were actually upset about the episode or if that’s just him speaking for them because he wanted other people to feel the same way he did. Who knows.
