Thanks! I’ve been trying to index what I have bought digitally while catching up on my Shout! Releases trying to figure out what I do and don’t have as I failed to keep up the past several years (honestly, the Roman numeral thing and generic covers are incredibly annoying and make it hard to keep track). Was pretty thrilled to discover I bought and hadn’t opened vol. 17! So I’m trying to mix and match what I have vs. what’s available and how and other than my off air VHS copy (from syndication no less!) Conquers the Martians was one of my gaps.
For those in similar situations, Amazon has several of the later volumes on sale right now in the $20-$25 range (for Black Friday, I assume). I’ve managed to plug almost all my gaps, still need vs Gamera, 25th anniversary set and vol. 12 and I’ll be almost all set (just price stalking at this point). And it looks like it’s digital for vol. 34.

If they did indeed get two episodes cleared for the first time and one of them is ROCKETSHIP X-M, I wonder what the other could be? The "out of circulation" eps on Turkey Day are just Viking Women and Stranded in Space. Both have been part of Gizmoplex/VHX since the beginning, but weren't on all of the FAST channels until a few months ago. (Which leaves Alien from LA and It Lives By Night as the only two remaining to be "released" from Gizmoplex exclusivity, but I double checked, and neither of them are on this year's TD lineup) Where can I find the full MST3K Turkey Day schedule for this year? I want to see the full list of episodes that will air.

Is Santa Claus Conquers the Martians available for streaming purchase anywhere? It’s only for rent on Amazon and I couldn’t find it on Apple It's never actually been released on a stand-alone disc, I wonder what weird license they have for it. Initially, Rhino released it in a two-pack "MST3K: The Essentials", and Shout later issued it in "The Singles Collection", and they did a horrible transfer that I hope was fixed for Gizmoplex.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is in the public domain far as I know. The Essentials discs bugs me because "Manos" was just shoe-horned into that release. At most, it could have just been Santa and Shorts volume 3 together.

So I might come off a bit pessimistic saying this, but honestly……
Can we even like……. Expect anymore instances of unreleased episodes popping up on DVD even with cases like “Quest of the Delta Knights” finally getting licensed at least for digital releases, Wade Williams passing away, eventually Susan Hart when her time comes and Olive Films now completely out of business?
I know we’re all under the impression Shout COULD technically still do another volume with “Delta Knights” and the three remaining Paramount titles assuming another company didn’t swoop the rights to those three, but let’s face it. It’s 2024 and physical media is just…… becoming a thing of the past now. Best Buy isn’t selling DVDs anymore, I only imagine other places like Target and Walmart will soon follow if they haven’t already, and it’s practically tough to even find physical video game releases anymore that don’t otherwise just tell you to use a download link so you can actually play it until a video game company decides “okay, play time is over” while keeping people’s hard-earned cash anyway.
Again…… I may just come off very pessimistic with this post but it IS going to be 2027 in 3 years from now, and by that point it will officially have been 10 years since Shout released volume 39….. Jesus Christ, I really hope I don’t find myself becoming MORE grumbly and salty by the time I’m 34 going on 35 that year.

Isn't Shout's primary (only?) business the release of movies and TV on physical media? They cater to horror and martial arts and other niche genre fans who will pay to own this stuff. I think, at worst, we could see them going back to single releases as things roll out. But they have to know there's a market. Heck, even major players like Disney have recently started putting former streaming exclusive content on Blu-Ray. The Mandalorian and Wandavision could have stayed on Disney Plus forever. BBC just put one of the Tom Baker Doctor Who seasons up on Amazon and it sold out rapidly!
There is a market for people who want to actually own TV and film - especially if there are extras involved, or if the works have to be compromised in some way when viewed online - like MST3K's 60 field per second interlaced format. Discs aren't going away. All that's changing is who and how they are catered to. Your average Joe is probably subscribed to a couple of streaming platforms and aren't interested in accumulating discs. But for fans and enthusiasts of boutique/cult stuff like this? They'll keep making them. It won't be in big stores, but everyone buys everything on the internet now anyway.

It's only *mostly* dead. But mostly dead is slightly alive. As an example, Kevin Smith can still sell so much physical media to his fans that Lions Gate will give him carte blanche to make whatever he wants up to a certain price point. I believe that, to some extent, MST3k fans are similar. We're the right age to want physical copies. I'm sure the Gizmoplex has made a dent in the number of people who will buy them, but they're still selling discs now. (To star's point, I believe that at one point, Shout tried to have its own streaming service, and I don't know if that's still active or not, so it might not be "only", but it's pretty close.) Shout seems to currently be in a phase where they are gradually re-releasing their best selling blu-rays on UHD, because they have a limited pool of titles they even might want to release. But I also understand the feeling that it gets likely with every passing year.

Best Buy may not be selling Blurays anymore but my local Movie Trading Co. chain totally supports the move. Quite frankly, Best Buy is moving toward only selling stuff that's hard to shop for on Amazon. Physical media just has to offer stuff that streaming can't, which the Shout sets do: permanence, collectivity, extras. The barebones options are just going away. They just have to make physical media more lucrative to compete with streaming, which is a good thing.

I mean, Shout owns half/all of the MST3k license (depending on how much you think Joel owns), I don't think they're going to stop putting the show out on disc or trying to clear episodes, be it for reissues or the handful of episodes as yet unreleased.
There's still Season 13 and perhaps even The Movie on UHD at some point (for the true sickos!). One would imagine a Volume 40 too, if they can ever clear enough titles to pair with Delta Knights.

Keep your eyes peeled, I hear we may be getting another Extremely-Unlikely out of rights hell in the next few weeks, aside from Final Sacrifice.

Okay but that doesn’t mean we’re going to get physical media releases, most likely digital, if at all. Shout’s been sitting on those Paramount titles with no word of even releasing them or if they acquired the rights.
