...and there's that riffing of Night of the Ghouls by the Mads to consider, too, as that film was "property" of Wade.

I think other than Rocketship X-M, he's been fine with stuff being riffed, as long as he's getting paid. But The Mads only riff PD stuff (other than two shows they toured with, which they haven't done with their online show). So I doubt the Mads would have riffed it if there was any thought that they would be shut down. And they definitely used one of Wade's prints for Ghouls.

So you know….. I did watch “Rocketship X-M” on its own last night for the first time in awhile (I mainly wanted to watch it stoned because I figured some of the effects might have been cool to watch under the influence…. Just ended up putting me to sleep halfway) and….. I’m not sorry for saying this. I really do think Wade (regardless if he may have been entitled to how he felt on the film) gave it WAY too much credit. It really feels like his love for the movie just came from a BIG nostalgia bias that just put a MASSIVE ego in his personality (which I’ve been starting to catch on to with him claiming “ownership” to movies he never even had the rights to to begin with). While I know the Brains had a library of Lippert films to use, I really am 99% convinced they wanted to use “Marooned” as the season 2 premiere and just chose THIS as a last-minute option when they couldn’t get the rights at the time (I’m more or less convinced that joke at the end of the episode was them hiding it as an Easter egg). Of course…. That’s speculation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were the case either.
I really think Wade should have been grateful this show even GAVE the movie ANY exposure at all…. Otherwise it would have just been long forgotten past the VHS days. Of course, that can also be said with ANY salty rights owner (*cough* Final Sacrifice *cough*) really.

Hoo boy….. another old post I found that aged like fine wine. The release of 201 may, and I hate to say this, depend solely on whether or not Mr. Williams is living. We really didn’t expect him to go 7 years later down the road….. but even then, I honestly don’t even know if this one is gonna get an official digital release at all or not.

It's just going to depend on what his estate (if one exists) wants to do, I guess.

No yeah, for sure. That’s what I meant. There’s no doubt I’m sure Shout has reached to his (supposed) estate to see if that one is even on the table anymore or not….. but fingers crossed his toxic “NEVER let the MST episode see the light of day AGAIN!” mentality didn’t carry over to those who worked for him.

And it seems to be gone already. So my guess is it went up by mistake?

Possible.
I mean the rights owner has made it clear he was very Wade Williams-level salty over the film having ANY exposure online.

"He comes from a long line of 'Great Anuses' " But seriously, is he really that annoyed about them doing his old film from years ago? I mean, everyone else involved in the production have basically embraced it's cult status now.

Well I mean Jordan Fields revealed in a podcast it took A LOT of negotiating to even get the episode on DVD in 2010….. my only guess is he was possibly in a financial crisis at the time.

Tjardus Greidanus is still making movies today so maybe it's a case of him being embarrassed by his first film and thinking it could affect how people see his current work. Granted, David Giancola has leaned hard on Time Chasers getting famous through Mst3k but you know different directors think differently and I am just guessing.

Yeah, I mean we basically lost Squirm down the road over Jeff Lieberman being salty that Mst3k mocked his vomit-inducing (and one I’ll admit did terrify me when I saw it on the show as a kid) worm movie 24 years ago.

Wasn't that lost just because Shout lost the rights from MGM? Jeff doesn't have any say if his film is released or not, it's all in control from MGM. Know Shout also had their Squirm Blu-Ray go OOP around the same time.
