As copied from this list:
401 - Space Travelers (aka Marooned) Sony. *DVD released by Sony* <NOT LIKELY>
502 - Hercules Delta Ventures, Ltd. (The Italian rights holders managed to restore their copyright). *DVD released by Retromedia, etc.. assuming PD* <LIKELY>
520 - Radar Secret Service see #203. VCI (licensed from Kit Parker Films). <EXTREMELY-LIKELY>
614 - San Francisco International Universal. <EXTREMELY-LIKELY>
I'd imagine this makes the remaining Season 5 Sony episodes Extremely-Likely, which would mean, barring any other changes, that of the 38 remaining episodes, there are 12 Extremely-Likely, 5 Likely, 16 Not Likely, and 5 Extremely Unlikely. Also, 15 Joel episodes to 23 Mike eps, and while only 3 Joel episodes are considered Likely or better, another 5 (1/3 of remaining Joels) are owned by the Arkoff estate. I see a couple Mike-heavy or Mike-only sets coming up, but I think I see these sets continuing at least through 2016 at this rate.

Man, sounds like Shout cracked Sony. If they can crack Paramount, a lot more movies open up.
Honestly, at this point, the only hard nos appear to be Toho for Godzilla and the Hart estate movies. Everything else? Possible.

They tried and failed to crack Corman, so I wouldn't expect Being from Another Planet and Deathstalker either.

What kind of background does your friend come from? Does he know Wade Williams, and if so how? The kind that stays anonymous so I dont get my friend into trouble Yet, Wade Williams and Corinth Films were willing to license out to Shout Factory other titles he owned, like The Crawling Eye, Robot Monster, Project Moonbase, Lost Continent, Beast of Yucca Flats, and Bride of the Monster. I guess he doesn't view the "quality" of those films in the same high regard as Rocketship X-M, and was more willing to license them out for the MST3k DVDs. Back on the Volume XXIII (23) DVD episode of King Dinosaur, which was a Robert Lippert-produced film (though licensed from Kit Parker Films), the documentary on Lippert featured quite a bit of footage from Rocketship X-M. Odd, you'd think that would be an indicator the episode had already been licensed for a future release. How did Comedy Central license Rocketship X-M for MST3k in the first place? I believe Wade Williams already owned most of the rights to the film, having purchased them from Adrian Weiss. Maybe the other rights were split up with other companies. I think Weiss Global Enterprises still owned the TV distribution rights, which would explain how MST3k got it, not needing to go through Wade Williams.

Short answer: No. Long answer: It could certainly mean that there are at least talks in the works. Maybe Ballyhoo's prepped up shorts for episodes that won't come for another few sets. Hell, Shout may already have the deals in place for the next 5 sets or so. By the same token, they could also be making them to test the waters and see what kind of fan reaction they get, in order to show rights holders what kind of market their movies would have, and thus how much their cut of whatever deal Shout makes could be. Or, it could mean absolutely nothing, other than Ballyhoo knows what episodes are yet to be put on DVD, and they're prepping features (or at least, graphics) for all of them, so why not make buttons?

What can I say, another steller set! Nice to finally see a Sony-owned film. Leaving Paramount and Lions Gate as the next big ones to crack (which, at this point, I have complete faith Shout Factory will).

Leaving Paramount and Lions Gate as the next big ones to crack (which, at this point, I have complete faith Shout Factory will). Hey, Travis. Is it possible that Lions Gate's rights to the Sam Arkhoff titles, Viking Women, War of The Colossal Beast, She-Creature, Teenage Caveman, etc., might have already expired? I read that Lions Gate has lost the rights to the ITC/ITV Entertainment library. One ITC/ITV film that Lions Gate distributed on DVD, Capricorn One, is being released on Blu-ray by Shout Factory early next year. Also, Lions Gate lost the rights to the Republic Pictures library, which includes Girls Town & Fire Maidens of Outer Space, to Paramount recently.

Wouldnt that be great if Shout picked up those Season 3 MST3K titles that have expired from Lionsgate ?? Lionsgate also has a lot of horror titles that horror fans are dying for blu ray releases for..

Don't mind me asking, but what's the deal with Susan Hart at this point? I heard last year she actually was willing to license out her movies because the rights that Samuel Z. Arkoff had on them apparently expired, which is why she never licensed them because it was a legal deal between Samuel and her, but now it seems like that was a possible rumor. Anybody know what's going on?

Don't mind me asking, but what's the deal with Susan Hart at this point? I heard last year she actually was willing to license out her movies because the rights that Samuel Z. Arkoff had on them apparently expired, which is why she never licensed them because it was a legal deal between Samuel and her, but now it seems like that was a possible rumor. Anybody know what's going on? First some back story. Actress Susan Hart, known by her current legal name, Susan Nicholson-Hofheinz, is the widow of American International Pictures co-founder, Jim Nicholson. Back in the mid-60s, Nicholson divorced his first wife to marry Susan Hart. He had to sell his shares in AIP to his partner, Sam Arkhoff, partly to pay his divorce settlement. He used part of the proceeds to found his own production company, Academy Pictures Corp. He signed a multi-picture deal with 20th Century Fox. They only released two films out of this deal, 1973's "The Legend of Hell House" and 1974's "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry." Nicholson only got credited as a producer for "Hell House" as he passed away before the film's release. Interestingly, Shout Factory has released both of these films recently. Arkhoff sold AIP in the late 70s to Filmways, which was later bought by Orion Pictures, which later went bankrupt, whose library is now owned by MGM. However, Arkhoff kept the rights to a number of AIP movies, hoping to sell to the home video market, as well as remake rights, and other ancillary rights to companies willing to license, i.e. model kits of the AIP movie monsters and other collectibles. There was some confusion at Filmways and Orion, who thought they owned the rights to those films, including the then-bankrupt Orion licensing The Amazing Colossal Man to Rhino for the MST3k VHS release in 1996, which was discontinued due to rights issues. Sam Arkhoff, at the same time was licensing home video rights to those AIP films to Columbia/RCA for VHS releases in the early 90s. Meanwhile, Susan Hart remarried to Roy Hoffheinz, Jr, the son of former Houston mayor Roy Hoffheinz, Sr. Hoffheinz Sr got the Houston Astrodome built during his tenure, and had heavy financial investments in major league sports teams. Susan Hart has deep pockets, given her husband's family's wealth, as you can imagine. In the mid-90s, she took Arkhoff to court, arguing that her late partner still maintained a silent ownership stake, in the AIP films that Arkhoff kept. She wrangle legal ownership of several AIP films, including Amazing Colossal Man, It Conquered the World, Terror from the Year 5000, and I Was A Teenage Werewolf. She may also own Attack of the Eye Creatures, due to it being a remake of Invasion of the Saucer Men, which she also owns, which would make Eye Creatures a derivative work. She also got ancillary right to the Colossal Beast monster character from War of the Colossal Beast, as it's a sequel or derivative work follow up, to Amazing Colossal Man, which she owns (though Arkhoff's estate owns the most important rights to that film, which was licensed to DVD to Lions Gate along with other Arkhoff titles some years back). A big problem was that Arkhoff made all these extra, very long-term licensing contracts for the films which Susan Hart later gained control over. She sought to nullify those deals struck by Arhoff by issuing cease and desist orders. The TV distribution rights were not in dispute, which allowed for MST3k to license her films without problems on Comedy Central and Sci-Fi Channel. However, she also decided to play things safe by waiting for all those preexisting contracts to expire, and start with a clean slate, allowing her to freely license the underlying rights to her films without any possible rights disputes. Those contracts only expired about five years ago. To give you an idea of how long-term contracts are in show business can be, look at the LucasFilm-20th Century Fox distribution agreement for the Star Wars films. Fox only owns all the rights to 1977's Star Wars in perpetuity, whereas LucasFilm owns the rights to all the other Star Wars films. Fox will be the exclusive distributor of those films on home video formats until 2020, when the deal expires (It was probably a 20-year contract, going into effect with the 1999 prequel, "The Phantom Menace") Since then, Disney has purchased LucasFilm, but can not distribute any of the 5 LucasFilm Star Wars movies until the current contract with FOx expires, or is nullified, i.e. purchased outright, like with Disney and Marvel purchasing back the distribution rights to Iron MAN 1 & 2, Thor, and Captain America from Paramount. Because of those unauthorized licensed agreements Arkhoff made with Columbia/RCA Video, as well as Orion licensing Rhino Amazing Colossal Man, she aggressively enforces her rights to those films, which is helped by her family's wealth. She's had trailers for her films pulled from YouTube, as well as all videos of her films, including the MST3k editions. She's sued cable networks for showing brief clips from her films, but lost on fair use grounds. She's sued toy companies and retailers for selling products that closely resemble the Saucer Men creatures. She has begun licensing the underlying rights to her films in certain ways. She licensed the likeness of the Saucer Men for a an episode of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors recently, the opening segment of which was directed by Guillermo Del Toro. She's also licensed out her movies to be shown at film festivals recently. She's also licensed rights to sell collectables based on the creatures in her films: www.amazon.com/Exclusive-Replicas-MAY121897-Invasion-Saucer-Men/dp/B007J5T3NY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417403473&sr=8-1&keywords=invasion+of+the+saucer+men+bustwww.amazon.com/War-Colossal-Beast-Scale-Bust/dp/B00GYJAZ10/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417406726&sr=8-1&keywords=colossal+beast+bustIn short, she's very litigious, which makes her very difficult to deal with when licensing from. She's only come around recently to licensing her films, which is bad considering the global financial crisis a few years back and weak economic recovery. DVD and physical media sales have also declined dramatically over the last 10 years. She still wants to get a good deal out of her properties' value in spite of current market conditions, but is in no rush given her wealthy background. I think this will all come to pass. About a year & a half ago, Best Brains' official MST3k.com website started featuring clips from "It Conquered The WOrld" as their Riff-of-the-Day homepage on a regular basis. They know first hand how litigious she is, given the Rhino MST3k VHS Amazing Colossal Man rights fiasco. They wouldn't put those clips up if it wasn't safe, given her history. Daniel Griffin's BallyHoo Motion Pictures eBay store has recently been spotted selling MST3k product featuring buttons containing movie poster materials from her films. www.ebay.com/itm/Mystery-Science-Theater-3000-LIMITED-EDITION-Button-Sets-PLUS-GIFTS-GORGO-DVD-/131360718120?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276Given Shout's background releasing "Hell House" and "Dirty Mary", as well as other MGM-owned AIP titles, it would make the most sense for her to license out her films to them, both for the uncut and MST3k editions. Who else would be willing to give her a better price and deal than them?
