It definitely looks cool. In the months since I first heard about it, though, I've gone from feeling mildly uncomfortable about it to being very sure I don't want to support it. I'm glad that those who are buying it seem to be enjoying most of what the game has to offer, though.

I just binged this, and I have to say I loved it! It was a fun little tribute to the loads of history that Tolkien wrote that never got quite as much press coverage.
Now, I know some people didn't care for it because of how it interacts with the books (I maintain it's closer to the books than they want to admit, but that's a different topic.) So I was curious: didja like it? And did your book reading have any impact on if you liked it?
For me: it was great. And yeah, while there were some discrepancies, I thought they were fair considering the nature of the media they were working with (and also a bit of a concession toward marketability; if you're doing a Tolkien-based thing you kinda need certain elements for people to feel like it's actually that thing, and it's hard to get a lot of those elements together in one time and place sometimes)

Heh, I love this, actually. Might not be the most rigorously scientific given the differences in how, when, and why we talked about some of those episodes, but I think the data's telling even with that kind of thing in mind.

Been too long. Costume: Jacob Singer from Jacob's Ladder, who saw spooky things. Like my Halloween avatar. Avatar: I really do need to watch that movie at some point

FIENDS and SLAY-bors, it is GRIME yet again to don our grisly disguises for the year! Behold! I am that cinematically squishy fiend of stage and screen known as... THE BLOB!!

Oh, totally. I see it as a "meat offered to idols" thing, and view it sorta like how I never directly pay for Amazon. I'm not suggesting other people should boycott the same ways I do. Just kinda feeling leery about the whole issue this time. (And honestly, as a religious person who wishes their religion would stop being hijacked to spread so much misery to other people, I kinda feel an extra bit of fire about this particular issue that might not apply to others)

Yeah. Like, I admit I never paid her much mind, and a lot of people have *opinions* on her passing, but she always seemed to be dignified. Ignoring the obvious perks of being a literal monarch, it can't have always been an easy gig.

I feel like I'm the only one who's fully satisfied with Season 13. They've had a good selection of movies, the riffs are funny, and they've finally gotten the rhythm of the jokes right (not too many or too fast). It's not perfect, but I expected that. The only expectation I had was, "Is it funny?". And, as far as I'm concerned, it is. And if I want edgier material, The Mads, MJ, and RT are providing it, and very well, too. I'm honestly expecting that I'll fully enjoy it once I can finally watch it, but my summer without internet access from home has thus far made it challenging to keep up with the times.

I do my best to separate the writer from the work in my mind. I don't have the time to do research if the person who wrote the book lives up to my personal standards. I let the work speak for itself. I mostly agree with that stance (one of my favorite takes on that position came from Neil Gaiman's Graveyard Book where he talked about supporting Rudyard Kipling's work even if he can't agree with the personal positions that Kipling took in real life), but the sheer immediacy of a lot of Rowling's current activities give me pause. Is me buying that game adding more to her anti-trans funds? Fueling her next Dune-length novel about the evil betrayals of people who disagree with her? Is it a meaningless drop in the bucket that ultimately won't affect her in any way? I dunno. I'm just not comfortable with it at the moment, despite growing up loving the franchise. And I'm really not trying to be a part of the bandwagon that jumped on her to suddenly declare that nothing she ever wrote was good, I'm really not, I'm just... I don't think I'll be picking this one up. At least... not through legitimate means.

Yeah, it's hard to know exactly where to pull punches. I remember the opposite problem with some Rifftrax episodes I listened to early on. I was still a college student living at home at the time, so I started up Rifftrax riffing on... I wanna say Star Trek V?... and sometimes the riffs just got *too* bad for me. Definitely awkward to watch with my mom, despite our previous familiarity with MST3K as a more or less family-friendly show.

I'm on the fence about it. I'd probably be down to give it a shot, but J. K. Rowling has been going out of her way to be such a villain lately that it's hard for me to really separate the game from her. I won't begrudge anyone who wants to give it a shot, though, especially if they've got a lot of childhood nostalgia attached to the property. (And hey, maybe Rowling will learn and grow as a person. She wrote characters who did, so maybe she'll follow suit someday.)

Dunno if you're familiar with the game "The One Who Pulls Out The Sword Shall Be Crowned King" or not, but I did the thing the game's title said to do, and then the game did what it promised it would do. I played this game when it first came out a few months back, but it was *nightmarishly* challenging even after just one day. People were just reconfiguring their keyboard to win the game in a matter of seconds, which was causing the game's conceit of "the sword is harder to draw after every successful time that someone draws it" to become basically unattainable for people who wanted to do it the "right" way. But then the game was patched! Huzzah! So I came back to it after all these months and, well, while it was still a challenge it was at least fun. (And then I tried Offline mode which was almost insultingly easy in comparison). Anyway, I'm king now, so unless one of you wins the game you'll have to call me Your Highness forever. Huzzah!

I got the vibe that Joel was on the SoL willingly in the future, but who knows? Lovely to see how this iteration of the bots interacted with him like a beloved uncle/elder; they're a couple generations removed from the originals, so he isn't quite Daddy. And intriguing to see Pearl being threaded in more and more. I think that's oddly good for his character. Joel was always the host who sort of had a foot in both the reality of the show and also in the reality of the "tv show production" aspect of things. He was the "host" of the show, and the narrative was just how his position in it was framed, as opposed to most later hosts having more of a "I'm actually trapped in space, help" feeling to them, even when they were able to engage with the audience in a host-like capacity. For Joel to come back and be like "Oh, bad movies? Yeah, okay, sure, let's do this" feels very on-brand for him. (Wanna say this is speculative: I've not really had Internet at home for several months now, so I've not been able to watch any of the new episodes yet. Looking forward to a marathon sometime in Autumn, hopefully)

He was always one of my favorite "Oh, that guy!" actors. I'm terrible with actor names and careers, but his emotive voice and resolute presence left a definite mark on me.
