Again, I really don't know the details to stuff like this, but it's possible that it could get very complicated. You bring up good points. Possibly, but I still don't think Shout! would have made its packages as extras-heavy as some of the other shows you've compared MST3k to. After all, the reason Freaks & Geeks and SCTV DVDs were awesome was because of cast/crew participation. What do we have with MST3K? A company made up of three people? Mike Kevin, Trace, etc. are not part of BBI anymore, and although they could certainly be involved with extras, they wouldn't be as hands-on about the material nor would they have any real access to anything. In other words, the limit of their participation would probably be interviews. I wouldn't count Kevin out. He produced most of the Sci-Fi era which may mean he has some word over how those episodes are used.

There is so much that could be used as extras. We've seen out-takes on the poopie reels, there may be more. There are "Writing room" tapes out there that could be tapped into. the Turkay Day Bumpers, MST Hour segments... get Frank or Trace involved in reflections (Joel seems to have distanced himself from this show) and I'd be in heaven.
I have no idea if Rhino has explored the possibility of using these as extras or what it would take to get them. I'm just saying It would be GREAT if they added these to the discs and it would be nice to hear that an effort had been made to add things like this.

Well the buying public has now become accustomed to extra stuff on DVD's. If Rhino expects to keep selling them they better make it worth our while. They must know the fan copies are out there. Give us something for our money Rhino!

Which would be fine. The Mike/Kevin interview was really good. I'd like to see more of that. And I as well. That interview was the best Rhino extra yet, in my opinion. My point was that Mike and Kevin couldn't supply all kinds of BBI material that the Freaks and Geeks folks could. I wouldn't count Kevin out. He produced most of the Sci-Fi era which may mean he has some word over how those episodes are used. Sure, but he doesn't work at BBI anymore. I honestly don't think he has any say-so. I'm not saying it's impossible for him to gain access to BBI's archives, so to speak, but he really has nothing to do with the company as far as I know. I'd love to be informed otherwise, because I've no doubt that these guys could come up with some great material. They can do it for the Three Stooges, why can't they do it for our show? There is so much that could be used as extras. We've seen out-takes on the poopie reels, there may be more. There are "Writing room" tapes out there that could be tapped into. the Turkay Day Bumpers, MST Hour segments... Exactly. We're all well aware that there's tons of BBI-produced material out there. I don't see how Rhino could have a problem getting it from BBI, unless they really are going out of their way to prevent abundant extras. I can understand a lack of new material for reasons we've discussed before (though with Mike's new intros and the Kevin/Mike interview it seems that route isn't a problem either), but there was a great deal of material produced throughout the show's production that we'd all love to have, and there shouldn't be any annoying legal issues surrounding them.

Best extra yet? The Kevin and Mike interview was the ONLY extra they ever had (besides Poopie). Pretty much.

And what about the different takes included on... Sidehakers, was it? a little boring, but an extra.

I disagree, sometime seeing the uncut version can be good. Eegah for example has a lot of uncut scenes. The Crawling Hand is funny on it's own. But then there is the negative. Wild World of Batwoman was a short movie and was painful by itself. Mitchell is a long movie that had some interesting cut scenes but never did include it (despite it being PD).

It's corporate BS, but it does prove that enough complaint letters will cause a company - large or small - to respond. Tell that to LucasArts about Sam & Max. But that's another story entirely.

You know about TellTale Games, though... right? Of course, but there's no way they could legally continue the work on Freelance Police. That sucks, because everything about that game looked like it was going to be so damned perfect. It was going to be a true adventure game in realtime 3d, but was also going to be point 'n click like the original, it was going to be headed by Mike Stemmle of Hit the Road and Steve Purcell, the creator. It was even going to have the original voices for crying out loud. The problem is that LucasArts owns all the resources to the game and will never give it or even sell it away. It's a shame that a game so close to completion would just get axed like that out of nowhere by an acting president with no understanding of how fan bases work. And now two freaking years of hard work will be left to rot. I have high hopes for the Telltale folks (as well as Tim Schafer's Double Fine and and the ex-LucasArts folks who are part of Autumn Moon Entertainment) and can't wait to see what they have to offer, but the fact is that even if they make a Sam & Max game, they will have to start from scratch. Hey...maybe this should be moved to a general discussion topic.
