Has anyone else had problems downloading K01? I've been trying for days, and it always craps out before completion. And it seems impossible to resume after the interruption. The help section of the VHX.tv site suggested running the browser in safe mode, that didn't work. Tried using good old Internet Exploder, and the same problem occurred. JDownloader can't make sense of the download link either. K02 didn't give me any problems, thank goodness, but this is slowly driving me mad. Can anyone help?

I had to attempt the download about 4 times before it would work, and then suddenly it did. Not sure why, sorry that isn't very helpful.

Their server might be getting overloaded. It could be worth trying late at night or early in the morning. Otherwise maybe you could try a download manager. I used to use them to download large files in the dial up days. Usually they have resume functionality (site supporting it) or will at least repeatedly try to download the file until it succeeds.

I found it fascinating that Trace couldn’t make it for the first episode and Josh had no trouble voicing Crow. I wonder how far apart the first three episodes were filmed. It's interesting to note that K01, along with the pilot, is the only KTMA episode in which Joel wears his teal jumpsuit. Both K02 and K03 talk about Thanksgiving while K01 doesn't. Maybe when K01 was shot Trace hadn't committed to doing the show and decided to join between when those two episodes were shot. That would make a lot of sense especially if they had decided to give him the non-speaking Beeper role. It seems like K01 was initially shot as second pilot that was intended to air in MST3K's regular time slot but then KTMA decided they needed additional Thanksgiving programming and commissioned K02 and K03 shortly afterwards?

It seems like K01 was initially shot as second pilot that was intended to air in MST3K's regular time slot but then KTMA decided they needed additional Thanksgiving programming and commissioned K02 and K03 shortly afterwards? Let's not forget that Trace was also absent from K05 and K06 as well, while Josh wasn't part of the theater segments of K05 and also left during the theater segments of K14. Trace and Josh were only paid something like $25 per episode and they no doubt needed their stand-up to pay the bills, so if it was a choice of doing stand-up or MST3K for that week, no doubt the stand-up won. As for the Thanksgiving airings. it could have been possible that MST3K could have intended to air the Sunday before Thanksgiving (on the 20th) but KTMA wanted a doublebill of episodes and if they aired K01 on the 20th, and then K02 and K03 for Thanksgiving, they probably wouldn't have had an episode for the Sunday that week. So they decided to air K01 and K02 for Thanksgiving and K03 three days later.

KTMA related, Shout cancelled the host segments bonus disc. It has been replaced with the Play MSTie For Me Triple Decker DVD.
The email they sent:
"Dear MSTies:
We regret to tell you that the source material for the KTMA host segments we had planned to use for the Volume XXXVIII bonus disc is not of good enough quality to create a DVD that’s up to our -- or your -- standards.
We’re as disappointed as you must be. We were so excited about the prospect of sharing the beginnings of MST3K with you and while we haven’t given up on the releasing KTMA host segments completely, we have run out of production time to get them ready for this release.
In light of that, we have decided to move up production on a bonus DVD that was planned for later in 2017: a limited-edition reissue of the Play MSTie For Me Triple Decker DVD, the long out-of-print collection of MST3K musical performances that would put Broadway to shame.
If that sounds OK to you, there’s nothing you need to do -- you’ll get that bonus DVD with your order. But if you would rather cancel your order, we understand and apologize for the inconvenience. Please email info@shoutfactory.com with your order number and we will take care of it.
Thanks for understanding. We really appreciate your support!
Best,
Team Shout! Factory"

Well, that doesn't sound good. If whatever source they were going to use for the host segments disc isn't up to par, I'm guessing any full KTMA episode release to disc is probably out of the question.

If one was an optimistic conspiracy theorist, one might hope that Shout saw the demand, rejoicing, and download numbers that were so great for the first two free KTMA's that they have decided to release some full episodes.

Who knows, maybe the popularity of the two lost KTMA episodes made Shout look around a little harder for the other KTMA episodes, and they found something but realized they wouldn't have enough time to work on it before XXXVIII came out and they didn't want to release a lesser-quality edition.

I'm curious just how bad of shape of material was. If it was a couple screen jumps here and there, or some static lines occasionally popping up, I think we could handle it.... or I could anyway.

The thing is if the master tapes have bad artifacts it's not like they're going to come across something better. Considering it was a bonus disc aimed at people at least somewhat educated on the KTMA era, one wonders how bad the issues were. I don't know if I believe this theory that they're pulling back because they found more footage, but I certainly hope that's the case.

BTW, while i hate to get on the "bashing Satellite News" bandwagon, I think it's a little disconcerting that they haven't mentioned Shout factory's change of plans yet. Imagine some poor schmuck that didn't get the memo cause they don't have Shout's newsletter, or don't read this message board...

This scares the hell out of me. That means that there's potentially issues with some of the master copies.
