I'm a longtime fan and have always known others who liked MST but not quite as much as me. Being on this board is my main encounter with other big time fans. The thing that has surprised me the most is the extreme opinions on the best and worst episodes. My guess is if you got a bunch of, let's say Seinfeld fans together they would have more agreement on the all time favorite shows. With MST it's all over the map. Some of my least favorite shows have turned out to be very popular with others. I think this says a lot for the diversity of the fanbase. Obviously we all have something in common to appreciate it so much but we interpret the episodes so differently. My point? Just that I think it's great! If we all agreed on the same shows the discussion would be far less lively.

Well,I've learned that (internet) MSTies are generally nice, atleast here they are. I've gone to forums for my 2 other favorite shows, Simpsons and Family Guy. The Simpsons fans on the internet look WAY too far into simple lines and jokes, looking for deep spiritual and religious meaning when they should jsut be laughing. And Family Guy internet fans were just ass-holes. Long live the MSTies!

Just "Santa Claus", you know. The one with the "Pleasure Mouth" (and yeah, Forrest and I had the same idea, lets mess with PE!). ------------------- So, Family Guy fans are like Raider Fans? (Man I hate it when those turd-balls visit the Titans board.

Why doesn't that surprise me? But seriously... It is facinating the very wide views we hold. "Jack Frost" is my favorite but a guy at work just hates it. The movie freaks him out too much I guess.

I believe you have accepted my point that the movie is a large factor in the way one accepts an episode but if not that should seal the deal. Oh not you of course but everyone else.

Maybe it's just me, but I doubt it-
I tend to watch the movie more than the riffing on my first go with an episode. Subseqent viewings become more and more riff-focused.
As a result, episodes like Kitten With A Whip and Diabolik rank high with me after the first watch, because the movies are somewhat interesting and don't put me to sleep. Then they get bumped lower on my ratings after a second watch because the riffing is sparse or dull.
The reverse is true for episodes like Night of the Blood Beast and Danger! Death Ray.

I think the reason MSTies are so diverse is because of the movies. I know, MightyJack, the jokes are what really matter, but some of the fans don't have the mental strength to take Manos, Monster A Go-Go, etc.
Anyways, different movies click with different people. I LOVED Deathstalker, but phantom hates it. I didn't care for Manos, but most think it's one of the best eps. And the biggest one: The Final Sacrifice! It's just an average ep to me, but most think it's another one of the best.
Humor is, IMO, one of the most subjective topics in this world. MST3K just highlights that. What a great show!

Humor is, IMO, one of the most subjective topics in this world. MST3K just highlights that. What a great show! That's really the point I was trying to make. It can be hard to define what strikes one as funny. I don't think it's always as cut and dried as MightyJack has said. Many opinions change after subsequent viewing. If we all viewed the riffing as good or bad and not related to the content of the movie then we should form an absolute opinion fairly quick. But many opinions vary after more viewing, Why is that? I think because what you find funny depends partly on your state of mind. An episode can seem funnier if you watch it with other people than if you watch it by yourself. Not necessarily but sometimes. And if you really hate the movie it can effect the way your brain perceives humor. Seems nothing but scientific to me.
