Feliz Navidad!
I know I've got a new planet ball logo shirt underneath the tree - I was horrified a few months ago when the one I got via the kickstarter (and which I was wearing all the time) developed a hole!

Oh, and I'd like a 30th anniversary special, maybe separate from the season itself.

I want another 'Cry Wilderness.' You know, a completely inexplicable movie no one's heard of.

Ha! Loved the fakeout of coming in with the announcement after the marathon appeared to end.

^Blasphemy! Santa Claus is an all-timer. I've actually turned off the marathon because I'll be putting on Santa Claus while trimming the Christmas tree this weekend (and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians when I'm wrapping presents - that's my tradition!).
Real solid lineup, and I enjoyed the bumpers. I'm so happy they brought back this marathon, and in a couple of years the online Turkey Day will have had a longer lifespan than the cable one!

They now have an alternate stream up that's an hour or so behind (Blood Beast is about to start).

Night of the Blood Beast!
Liking the host segments with Joel, Jonah, and Felicia... and has Joel been working out? I think the short sleeve shirt is just him showing off his arms.

Criterion's been sending replies to enquiries confirming that they plan on a DVD/Blu-Ray release for these movies, but they're not on the schedule yet.

I'm just glad that they're doing Turkey Day at all. I was worried as it hadn't be announced... not that I couldn't just make my own Turkey Day marathon.

^Yes, Chaplin and Lloyd are must haves from them. They also need to do a Blu ray version of Thief of Bagdad (they released their DVD just before they started doing Blu-Rays).
There's a ton of classic movies I want that are owned by Warner, and even with four or five releases from the Warner Archive each month it'll be years before they get to all the ones I want, and Criterion apparently has claim to several - The Philadelphia Story is being released by Criterion this month, for instance. I'd love a Criterion set of The Thin Man movies or the post-Paramount Marx Bros. films.
And to move the topic back to kaiju: Arrow Video does a ton of Japanese movies. I got their Female Prisoner Scorpion release and I'd kill for them to give their special treatment to some kaiju movies!

^ I'm thinking a complete Showa box set is likely. Kraken (an imprint of Section 23) is a small company, and probably fairly easy for Criterion to make a deal with, and Universal? Criterion's released several Universal films, so they have an existing relationship with them. Really, with Criterion having established relationships with practically every movie studio they're uniquely suited to pull this off.

Watching these streaming versions now: these movies are in HD and look great! New and improved subtitles, too. For some reason War of the Gargantuas is only the international dub version (so no Russ Tamblyn dubbing himself) but it has maybe the best picture quality of them all.

I like a lot of films on MST3K. Some genre fans get hung up on them making fun of 'their' movies, but personally I think MST3K always comes from a place of silliness and good nature, rather than one of snarkiness and condescension. If it weren't for MST3K people would be unfamiliar with Coleman Francis and Manos - they've added to film history rather than covering it up with jokes! If it weren't for MST3K I wouldn't know anything about old Russian fantasy films, Italian sword-and-sandal movies, the juvenile delinquent and biker sub-genre, educational/instructional/propaganda shorts... diving into MST3K means getting a lesson in film history that all orthodox film history leaves out!
As for what movies I like: the Russian fantasy films are straight-up awesome (and I'd certainly get a Blu-Ray box set of 'em unriffed if you offered Shout Factory!), all the kaiju movies they did (though I still attend that the biggest sin the old Gameras commit is that they're so padded), Mexican Santa Claus, Black Scorpion, Teenagers From Outer Space has an underlying sweetness that makes it very endearing...
I admire the ambition a lot of these films have. Boring the audience is the worst thing you can do. Time Chasers is extremely ambitious and I'm not at all bored by it. I even think the Time Travel mostly makes sense in it!
