Oh, and he was great in Stalag 17 and Night of the Hunter, two practically perfect films.

Call me crazy, but I always admired to the capable way in which Peter Graves dismantles the alien invasion with a solid afternoon's work in It Conquered the World.
You will be missed sir!

As for Mr. B: the character seems to be a riff on Peter Pan and on stage Peter Pan was traditionally played by a woman in drag - kind of how most of the voices of little boys in animation are done by women as they can better do a young male voice.

Tormented is on RTV right now, on Wolfman Mac's Chiller Drive-In.

White Heat
I liked it alright, but I'm just not one for gangster pictures. Still, "top of the world!"

another question: what, exactly, happened to Paul's pet lizard? for years I thought Paul ate him, but now I have no idea. Did he merge with Paul to make him more lizardy? Did he just let him escape? WHAT? Yeah, is it like in The Quatermass Experiment when the astronaut infected with the alien intelligence absorbs the cactus in his hospital room and gets progressively more vegatable-y as the film goes on?

Them!
This movie made me want a flamethrower when I was 11 years old; very effective against your gaint ant.

Ponyo
Watched the Japanese version for the first time. Interesting thing that was completely lost in the dub: in Sosuke's house they don't use the words "mom" and "dad." They all refer to each other by their first names.

TCM is just plain awesome this month (Kurosawa movies and all).
There's also a Harryhausen fantasy triple feature later this month.

I'm loving the flash sideways because while the main narrative has become this epic sci-fi/fantasy affair (which is fine) this other universe allows for simpler, emotional stories.
Also, I love how we still recognize our characters even in these different lives. It may be a bit of a stretch, but it reminds me of Chuck Jones' idea behind his classic cartoon "Duck Amuck" :
"Who is Daffy Duck anyway? Would you recognize him if I did this to him? What if he didn't live in the woods? Didn't live anywhere? What if he had no voice? No face? What if he wasn't even a duck anymore?"

[Massive Porco Rosso Spoiler] There is a clear resolution to Porco's relationship with Gina, you just have to play really close attention to that final scene - and maybe use the zoom function on your DVD player.

^Yeah, but in that movie the usually frightening yokai are friendly and cute. Kappa is the hero of the whole thing really!

Irony: I'm writing a four page paper on Rashomon for my International Cinema class tomorrow while I could be downstairs at a TV with cable watching Kurosawa movies on TCM!
