There is a misconception that the movies on MST were the worst out there (Yes I'm aware of the theme lyric). I think most of the films they did are good for what they are.

Look at what Shout Factory did with FREAKS AND GEEKS... now THAT was truly a masterpiece of challenging song licensing for a home video release. Damn right (Though I'm not a fan of the show, it was impressive that they cleared all the songs), Same with The Weird Al Show and WKRP. I just don't think that snippet is what's preventing the release of the episode.

Five seconds falls under fair use, so there's no way that it's the song (and besides, do you really think that Best Brains could have afforded to license a song?). No it doesn't, You have to clear the song if you use it in a medium like that. If that were true than every show would be using 5 second clips of Beatles songs.

Wouldn't it make more sense to wait until the Satellite Dishes disc comes out and then edit those host segments into the Fan dub versions? Just a thought. Well, that would require a lot of effort on my part, and should a "tape trader" undertake it I would have to wait for them to do it and that is assuming they actually do it. It was just a thought. I'm sure someone will do it at some point if the remaining episodes are never released.

Do we know for sure they have the raw footage where they could swap in different music? That's assuming it was added entirely in post. But even if the song is attainable, is it affordable? Established artists tend to charge more of a premium when it comes to their music being used in television shows and films. Even if they didn't charge a high price to use the song, it still adds to aggregate cost of clearing the episode for release. Just a hypothesis, especially since Delta Knights seemed like a gimme for release. Even then they could just edit down the clip or add a new voiceover. Yeah they might take some flack for it and it would be annoying but It wouldn't prevent them from releasing the episode.

Didn't Delta Knights have a snippet of an Allman Brothers song in the opening host segment? Any chance that would be the holdup? Wouldn't they need to license the song too? Yeah but that's one of those things where I think shout could easily licence the song and even if they couldnt' they could just edit it out and replace it with a generic track. The bigger issue is licencing the film.

It seems weird to me that they've been able to licence some films from Paramount but have given up on the other films. I'm gonna throw out a hypothetical, Is it at all possible that they got the rights to Girls Town and Diabolik from a party other than Paramount? Maybe Paramount won't play ball and that's why they've given up on 416,905 and 906.

Soultaker was (Possibly still is) owned jointly by Dr. Ivor Roystein and Dennis J Carlo. I belive one owns copyright while the other has the distribution rights. They were the production team who owned the company that made Soultaker. Again I think I have a good idea who owns Quest of the Delta Knights but I haven't been able to confirm. I would assume though that it is a similar situation to Soultaker.

Does the package list the film rightsholders? Yes on a handful. I don't have the set right now but I'll check when I get back home. Thank you.

Wade now owns Dead Talk Back. Not sure of that. You have a source? I think Dead Talk Back is still owned by Sinister Cinema. I know that Wade in recent years bought the rights to The Sinister Urge from Sinister Cinema, though. Scroll to the Bottom. He told me that Luce tried to sell it to him. Didn't know that he actually bought it though. www.wadewilliamscollection.com/ft-wood.html

Seriously what is up with Quest of the Delta Knights? I wanna know what's going on with that one. And if The Space Children's license was truly set to expire and be available in 2017, it would personally have made more sense to delay the release and get that on there. Hopefully people with connections here can talk to Shout and see what's the dillio. No guarantees but I'll see what I can do.

I think Torgo may have a point. I can't help but feel like all we'll get is a "wait and see" answer if it is brought up. That's better than nothing at this stage
