;D I'm happy with the episodes chosen for Vol. 9 (I seem to be in the minority..)
Haven't seen #104 yet... (well actually 113, right?)
WILD REBELS is great (I knew it was going to show up sooner or later, since it's another Crown picture)
Love THE SINISTER URGE & THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES (I'm very surprised Rhino managed to get that!) ... and some interesting extras (still rather have Poopie II, etc.. but those will probably show up on DVD from BBI).

I did. It's a good disc (considering the content). It's really weird, though, to see these films with anamorphic transfers. The excellent dubbing work of Bellucci Productions is intact, of course. Dark Sky actually cropped the movies from their original aspect ratios. One (or both) was filmed 2.35:1, and they decided to crop it down to 1.77:1.

Like I said above, Roger Corman doesn't have the rights to the movies MST3k did! The rights to IT CONQUERED THE WORLD are with Susan Hart-Hofheinz. TEENAGE CAVEMAN and VIKING WOMEN VS. THE SEA SERPENT are owned by the Arkoff Estate (currently being lisenced to Lionsgate). ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES and SWAMP WOMEN are public domain GUNSLINGER has already been lisenced out the Rhino, so no problem there. NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST has been assumed public domain, but the copyright claiment is "Rivival Pictures". Again, not Corman. THE UNDEAD is owned by the Arkoff Estate. See? No problem. **Note**: The rights to the Nicholson/Arkoff AIP movies are split between Susan Hart-Hofheinz (the widow of James Nicholson) and the Arkoff Estate. THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN & I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF are also controlled by Susan Hart. eek! TERROR IN THE YEAR 5000 & THE SHE CREATURE are controlled by the Arkoff Estate. While it would seem all of the Arkoff-owned AIP titles are being lisenced to LionsGate, I'd say there's a much more possible chance of seeing those from Rhino than the ones controlled by Susan Hart.

This won't affect MSTies... just because Corman produced a movie, doesn't mean he owns it now.

Is the transfer any different from the original Image/Universal DVD?
That's cool that they include the UnMSTed THIS ISLAND EARTH, interesting that it's full-frame.
The movie was shot with the intention of being presented at 2:1, so I *think* it was shot open-matte.

Is there any word on whether or not there will be an English audio track option? I have a multi-region DVD player, so I'd pick this up if there were some good extras (like the deleted scenes & alternate ending).

I really hope they put Poopie 2 on it and have a really cool cover like with vol 8. I don't know if this means anything, but poopie II is no longer available for sale by the Best Brains. Same goes for Assignment Venezuela and Mr. B's Lost shorts, which all have been released by Rhino. Speculation: it may be available soon. You can still get Poopie II, Assignment Venezuela and Mr. B's Lost Shorts on VHS... it's just there's a very small quantity left of each. I don't know what happened to the Scrapbook Tape, but it would be nice to see that officially released on DVD at some point (it's a great compilation). Why the hell did BBI put Poopie I on the DVD of Tom Servo's All Time Favorite Host Segments (and not Poopie II?), it's already available with Manos!

I'm kind of expecting Giant Gila Monster. I think I saw a clip of it on an ad for their big box set of old Sci-Fi movies on the Beginning of the End DVD. Since they already have the rights for it, (or is it PD? I don't know much about that stuff) I think they'll probably release it with this set 9. I'm expecting The Giant Gila Monster too. It's public domain (like Attack of the Giant Leeches, Teenagers From Outer Space, and The Killer Shrews). I'm very surprised Rhino hasn't released it yet.

I'm hoping for THE GIANT GILA MONSTER and NIGHT OF THE BLOODBEAST, and any SciFi Channel-era episodes would be fine too.
And we need "POOPIE! II", "THE LAST DANCE- RAW!", and "THE SCRAPBOOK TAPE" on DVD. Rhino should at least be able to include Poopie II on one DVD as an extra.

I'll be the first to admit that I know nothing of copyright laws/broadcast rights/public domain laws, etc. But it does seem a little odd to me that Rhino could market, say the Mighty Jack episode by just obtaining rights from the original Japanese company. The thing has Sandy Frank's name all over the opening credits. They don't need to deal with him at all to release the version that he produced/dubbed? I'm not trying to doubt what you're saying, I'm just curious. That's a good question. They'd probably have to clear it by him. Some of the dubs (GAMERA VS. BARUGON, GAMERA VS. GAOS) were "international dubs" done by the Japanese company... so SF just tacked on his opening. I think this may be the case for most of them.. but I don't know exactly which. What a headache.. perhaps Rhino could look in to it, but it would seem unlikely we'll ever see them officially released.

Speaking of Sandy Frank... I've heard the stories on how he hated the MST treatment on his 'movies' and whatnot. Still, I can't imagine Fugitive Alien, Mighty Jack and the like generating him much money at this point. I would like to hold out hope that money talks and Sandy would pocket what I would imagine amounts to a decent chunk of change for the rights to pretty much junk. Sandy Frank no longer has the rights to the Gamera movies, Time of the Apes, Mighty Jack or the Fugitive Alien I&II. Rhino would have to go directly the the Japanese companies in order to secure the rights.

Beginning of the End is owned by the Peter Rodgers Organization (according to the back of Image Entertainment's DVD of it). Perhaps they or Image had a problem with Rhino's release? Rhino did include the unMSTed version on the flip side (which was just a transfer from a video master, and not a film transfer like Image's).
I have the episode on VHS, and just managed to buy the DVD new off of ebay.. before it becomes scarce.
