Plus, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't they use tape copies of those movies to begin with? You know when you see those making of segments, they're making the jokes in front of a tape with a timecode, and that's what they project on the blue screen. I don't think BBI ever used an actual film reel of any of the movies that were shown. Correct. They just used video masters (which were usually culled from 16mm prints). You can see video glitches occasionally.. depending on the episode.

Not sure if there is a master list of all available movies on DVD that were on MST3K, but the ones that I have are: My "Likelihood For Rhino Release" thread has most of the MSTied movies available on DVD listed in it.

HERCULES will be on AMC, Thursday July 27th: www.amctv.com/show/detail?CID=9327-1-ESTI remember seeing this years ago (Before AMC sucked), and they aired a widescreen print! Pity it'll just be the crappy panNscan print. Of similar interest, TCM will be showing Hercules, Samson & Ulysses in September. Another sword & sandel flick from the early 60's. Sounds fun! I also recommend MSTies check out Hand Of Death, starring John Agar. AMC has been showing it now and then recently (in between their marathons of "Twins" and "Jaws the Revenge").

Does anyone know what format the MST3k masters are stored on? I think it's some sort of digi-analog tape. Season 7 is stored on d2 masters. Here is the definition: "D2 is a composite video digital recording format that uses data conforming to SMPTE 244M and records on 19mm (3/4”) magnetic tape. (Often used incorrectly to indicate composite digital video.)" I picked up four of my masters from that season from a guy working at the video production facility. Cool, thanks for the info!

I saw my first KTMA show the other night ("Phase IV") and I enjoyed it. The two guys I watched it with preferred the slicker later episodes, but this one had space between the gags and a couple of brilliant improvised moments where I laughed my ass off. Crow: "She looks kind of skinny, must be a Carpenter ant..." Servo: "Antarexic" Very poor taste, but still funny! I also got a big kick out of "They're outstanding in their field".

Sometimes anticipation far exceeds the actual event. I have the KTMA episodes, and they're interesting in an historic sense. (They're not very good.) But you see the idea developing. First season CC is far better than KTMA. Yeah, being able to actually write the jokes before hand makes a huge difference. I need to complete my KTMA collection, as bad as they are. Interesting in a historic sense for sure, and it's cute to see the roughness of it.

While this thread has been bumped, might as well mention a few things: *Sandy Frank doesn't own any of the movies/shows MST used. *BBI doesn't want the KTMA's released officially (which I can fully understand actually), and since they didn't license the movies in the first place (for use on the show), they couldn't. *If any KTMAs were to be released (either host segment compilations, or an episode or two), it would most likely be through BBI/fan club.
*If Rhino wanted to include the pilot as an extra, they could easily do it. THE GREEN SLIME is owned by Warner (through having MGM's old movie library). It would make a nice bonus feature, with or without the short movie segments.

I got that issue a few days ago, I too thought it was great they could take a joke. And indeed did grow up to be hot!

According to Travis's list that he posted a link to above, only Squirm is unlikely. Actually, that one is listed as extremely unlikely. Check it out, it's some interesting info. Someone `round here recently posted a link to IMDB where a conversation about Squirm included the director himself, and he was totally humorless about MST and rather down on the whole thing. If he holds any rights control, Squirm would be in the "over-my-dead-body" category ! I don't think the director has any control over the film, but since it's owned/was released on DVD by MGM, that's why I put it as Extremely Unlikely.

Final Sacrifice and SoulTaker, if possible. Aren't there some problems with the rights to SoulTaker that make it hard to release it? I thought I read something about that. forrestcrow.proboards47.com/index.cgi?board=mstchat&action=display&thread=1152828151Image Entertainment released a DVD of it in 1999, and it's now out of print. This could mean they just felt like discontinuing it (and still own the home video rights), or the rights reverted back to the original owners. Either way, it's not on the market right now... so the chances are more likely Shout might be able to get it. That would be great if they could, since it's really an "essential" episode to have.

I'm happy with whatever episodes Shout can get ahold of, but here's a random possible set I'd like to see:
KING DINOSAUR CRASH OF THE MOONS THE VIOLENT YEARS INVASION OF THE NEPTUNE MEN
They should try to do the 2 Joels/2 Mike episode format when they can too.

I would say that because of MST3K, I am much more of a smartass. Ditto on that. MST3k helped make me the smart-ass that I am today, as well as my love for bad movies and having too much pop culture knowledge.
