Wasuki,
I didn't even notice that little tagline in your signature. As a lifelong resident of the Detroit area, I am also a die hard Tigers fan.

Just to let people know who don't have The Beginning of the End i found a copy today at a Media play and a Borders so they haven't pulled them from the shelves. I live in Monroe, about 45 minutes away from Detroit and something that is kinda funny is that my dad is the PA announcer for the Tigers. And he loves MST3K too!

I'll have to check out my Borders tonight then. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I'm a die-hard Tigers fan. I think Alan Trammell was fired a bit too early, but hopefully Jim Leyland can shape things up. AL Central will be ours in 2009!
Heh, awesome. He's the PA announcer at Comerica Park? I'm sure I've heard him over the TV a couple of times, but I've never been to Detroit to catch a games. I try to go to spring training every year, and I catch the games on TV whenever I can.

Yeah he's the PA announcer, if you watched the All-Star game he was the one you heard introducing the players. If you listen closely you can hear him in the background as well.

This is nothing to do with The Beginning of the End, but speaking of Borders, I went into the local one the other day, and needed to order something that wasn't on the shelves. Well, the computer at the customer-service desk...had one of those "shadowrama" silhouette stickers on the bottom of the screen, as if everybody who comes in is automatically being mocked. HA! I FOUND ONE! (another MSTie, I mean.) He was so tickled that _I_ got the joke, too. Like, "Whoah, hey, finally, someone else who gets it!"
I just thought that was too cool. :)
As for The Beginning of the End being taken off the marked, _that_ sucks beyond all definitions of suckitude, of course, and like everyone else I'm eagerly awaiting "the full story", at whatever time it should come out. That's one of my favourite episodes from the Mike era, so I'm just glad I still have my old VHS copy.
And The Movie _is_ bloody short. I've been watching the episodes in DVD form lately, on my computer, and have been surprised to learn that actually most episodes are a good bit _past_ the hour-and-a-half mark, even after the uncut KTMA era. Up to Season 3, at least, the average length for an episode is about an hour and thirty_seven_ minutes. I'll be watching to discover exactly at what point do the channels add in enough commercials to knock the episode times down--it'll be interesting to find out. 'Cos I KNOW that nowadays, what used to be "45" minute programs without commercials, are now down to like maybe 42. So I assume that it goes all the way up the line so that "hour and a half" long programs are shorter now, as well.

Whats funny is that the copy that i found has the Joel pictures on the side and back and it says "Join Joel and the bots" on it.

What, the Movie, or The Beginning of the End? (It'd be equally wrong on either one, of course.) I believe you--I've got a Rhino DVD of Wild World of Batwoman that says "Join Joel and the 'bots" and has the wrong picture, etc, yada yada yada, too.
Not terribly careful, _are_ we, guys? :P

Sorry for the mix up i was talking about Beginning of the End. I have a VHS copy of the movie i've had since like 96 when it came out and i've watched probably 2000 times.
Last Wednesday when it aired on Sundance, since it was Wednesday it aired in Widescreen so now i have a great copy i recorded onto DVD (the movie that is).

Ahh... Monroe, Michigan... The birthplace of General George Custer!
The company I work for has a client in Monroe. In fact, I'll probably be down there sometime this week for work. Small world. Ashkenaz, I will be listening for your dad on Opening Day next season. I usually goto about 10 Tigers games a year.

For those of you who are getting hard of hearing, you should know that both The Movie's dvd and the Sundance version were/are closed captioned. It's done very well. The captioning for This Island Earth is on the top of the screen, and the riffs are at the bottom. They got them all.

Yeah aren't the riffs in a color corresponding to Mike, Servo, or Crow as well? It's more difficult to subtitle than a normal movie or show, but I wish Rhino would have done that for their releases. With the attention paid to it it worked very well.

I recall noticing my Movie video had the little CC logo on it, so I popped it in with closed caption on, curious on how they did it. I thought they did a bang up job with that. Very clever.

Oh, yeah. That _would_ be hard to subtitle, what with the fact that it has TWO dialogue tracks. Man. That'd be a _pain_. I guess they'd have to use a system similar to what text MSTings do, where the dialogue of the original thing _being_ riffed is set off from the lines in some way (putting a >in front of it, making it bold, etc.) or some such.
The different colours for the different characters thing...heh. I can think of at least one site that does that ("MSTies Anonymous", with their host segment transcripts)--and I _believe_ Sloe Gin Circus used to do that as well...anyway, I'll shut up now.
