Just a few more pieces of information on the upcoming Shout! Factory set from B. Ward... They won't be continuing Rhino's numbering scheme... The discs will be single-layer, dual-sided, with each disc having its own thinpak. Nothing major, but still a little extra info is better than nothing! :-) www.shoutfactory.com/community/763/thread.aspx#3389You mean "single-sided, dual-layered?" D'oh! You're right... my brain must be a little dyslexic today. I've fixed my post. Thanks for catching that.

Four thinpacks (presumably boxed), sounds good. Although, that will be the same width as the Rhino sets. For those of us that are shelf-spaced challenged.
I have enough room for the first five sets from Shout then I'll have to figure something out.

This is totally speculation/dreaming on my part but I went back and re-read the thread from the Shout! Factory board and I'm trying really hard to read between the lines of Brian's posts.
It sounds like (of course) they really want to take their sets in a very new direction. I think it was one of the posters over there that speculated it would be the MST3K 20th Anniversary set.
That said, it makes me think that they are going to try and do something like put out something as bold as a KTMA as one of the ep's?
Travis, what do you think?
Or, perhaps have a selection of 4 really great ep's (which it sounds like that's what they have lined up) and extras like the Scrapbook, etc.

Just my 2 cents... but I've got high hopes for what Shout! may pull off for this upcoming set.
I've been watching my Freaks and Geeks set (that Shout! put out) over the past couple weeks, and they did such a tremendous job on it. Deleted Scenes and Commentaries for EVERY episode... in addition to bloopers, cast audition footage, NBC promo vids, etc... and this was just the basic release... not the insane "Yearbook Edition" that they put out, which had even more bonus features (an insane amount).
That's not forgetting the TLC they put into the set by successfully negotiating for the tons of music that the show has in it...
Sorry... I hope I didn't stray too far off the thread topic... but I'm just really interested in seeing what Shout! ends up releasing. It seems like they've got their heads on straight for this project, and their previous track record inspires extra confidence.

Is there a projected release date for the first release yet? I saw nothing on their website.

I just hope that I will have enough dough to buy this first set. I for one would love to see them release some KTMA episodes. They would be GODS if they could pull that off. Especially if it's any of the 3 never-seen-by-MSTies episodes.

One thing I don't understand is why it would be that hard to release the entire 30-minute Pilot episode...after all, it never really aired...and I believe the movie used was PD...It would be a nice little bonus feature.

^They used The Green Slime for the pilot, which is owned in the US by MGM.

Or, perhaps have a selection of 4 really great ep's (which it sounds like that's what they have lined up) and extras like the Scrapbook, etc. I don't think Shout will be releasing any full-length KTMA episodes. It's very likely Shout will try to put the pilot on one of the sets, and maybe even some host segments (kind of like the Scrapbook tape did, but better). Releasing a KTMA episode alongside Season 4, 10, etc episodes may leave 'casual' buyers saying "WTF is this?". So from that kind of marketing standpoint it doesn't seem worth it to go through the trouble of licensing the KTMA episode movies (some of which would be hard to get ahold of too), not to mention BBI's stance on the KTMA episodes and the legality of the KTMA shows themselves. ^They used The Green Slime for the pilot, which is owned in the US by MGM. The Green Slime is owned by Warner in the U.S.

Unless they could release both the KTMA and CC version on the same disc. Then they could explain where the earlier version came from.

Unless they could release both the KTMA and CC version on the same disc. Then they could explain where the earlier version came from. That would be cool with me. I know casual buyers wouldn't go for a set with a KTMA on it, But I think that everyone here on the board wouldn't mind having an official release of "Phase IV" or "City On Fire"
