Jenny (867-5309)-Tommy Tutone or however you spell it I curse Tommy Tutone for writing that song. Now every time I go someplace and people ask me what my name is, I say Jenny and they invariably ask me if my phone number is 867-5309. Sigh. If only the song weren't so damn catchy... (And no, that's not my phone number, so don't call me looking for a "good time.") I like a lot of the 80's new wave one-hit wonders, like Nena's "99 Red Balloons," Peter Schilling's "Major Tom (Coming Home)" and M's "Pop Musik." I also love Gary Numan's "Cars," but I thought he had a couple of other hits, like "Are Friends Electric" and "Down in the Park." Maybe they were only popular in my circle. Oh, and I love "I Melt With You" by Modern English -- actually I have that whole album (called After the Snow) and it's really quite wonderful. Now if only I still had a record player to listen to it on...

I loved Down in the Park, loved that whole album. It might have been a hit in the UK, but Gary made little impression in the US until Cars was released. I'd have to check the charts to be sure. But I think Cars was the only one that made a mark on the charts here. There was a song around that time, man I don't know who did it. I remember the lyric "Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes, wouldn't it be good to..." - Damn I used to want to cover that song in my band back in ther day and we never did.

I believe that song was "Wouldn't It Be Good" by Nik Kershaw. I think it was on the Pretty in Pink soundtrack.

"Your Love" by the Outfield. That's a good one. There's a lot of classic ones too, such as "Duke of Earl" by Gene Chandler.
Yep.

"Your Love" is a worthy one-hit wonder, but I could listen to their "Play Deep" and "Bangin'" albums over and over. Another band I love that had some great albums but only one hit is Dada. "Dizz Knee Land" is the one everyone knows, but all of their stuff is worth getting. Another synth-pop favorite is "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order. Or "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora. And speaking of Pretty in Pink, how about "If You Leave" by OMD?

I Want Candy, that's a good one.
My favorite one hit wonder of all time is Children of the Sun, by Billy Thorpe (I think).
*How could I forget Party Lights, by Claudine Clark? That's a close 2nd. She has this tiny, squeeky little voice but she sings full volume with what seems to me like absolute abandon. Wild song.*

LOL - Thanks for the help, I think I'll go look up this Nik guy, see if he was a Wiki page.

Has anyone mentioned Double Shot Of My Baby's Love by The Swingin' Medallions? Great '60s frat-style drinkin' song.
Oh and I don't want to point any fingers or name any names but some of the songs you guys are mentioning, at least in my opinion, really suck! As they say, to each his own. I'm cool with that.

C.W. McCall - Convoy
I know it's a sucky song, but I love it for some reason.
