Okay, I know how it sounds but "Wind Beneath My Wings" breaks me up. But before you flame me hear me out! They sang it at my grandma's funeral so it reminds me of a sad time. I understand anyone getting emotional from that song. It gets me sometimes too. Matt

This is one of the few message boards where you don't need to write "before you flame me". But really? Wind Beneath My Wings? Just kidding...

Cliche, but Godl ey and Creme's 'Cry' is a good one to put anyone in a saddened mood. Nice choice ! Jumped right out of all the other choices as I read.

I happened to come across the YouTube of David Bowie & Annie Lennox performing "Under Pressure" with Queen at the Freddy Mercury tribute concert.
I'm going through a really stressful time right now, and for some reason the lyrics really hit me hard. That, mixed with the video of a mass of people at Wembley Stadium, really got to me.
Speaking of Queen, "The Show Must Go On" belongs in this thread.
Also, during the Grammy's last week, I cried when they did that medley of Beatles songs ("A Day in the Life" and "Let it Be") with Cirque du Soleil. Something about those songs did the trick.

I'm sorry to hear your going thropugh a stressful time Mr. A - Your one of the best and I hate to think of you struggling.
Just about every bloody thing makes me cry these days. But as I mentioned in another thread, "God Only Knows" devistates me right now. And that theme from Eergon by Avril Lavigne, again because I sent the lyrics to a person last year, now when I hear it....
And the version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and if "If I Fell" as heard on Across the Universe, man did they reach right into my chest and squeeze my heart.

Songs don't really make me cry. But "Little June" by Groove Coverage makes me kind of sad.

A song has never really made me cry but I did have a lady friend about 15 years ago who absolutely bawled every time she heard "Seasons in the Sun".....Lord how I loathe that song. That's the song that I would ever come close to crying....Another one would be 'Shannon' by Henry Gross.

Josh Rouse's "Michigan" is the one that usually gets me everytime. Written as a letter home from a kid who's moved to Michigan to stay with his Aunt and Uncle, the song is both incredibly beautiful and heartbreakingly sad.
The lyrics really capture that feeling of just not fitting in, without really being overt about anything until the narrator finally blurts out "Dad I'm sorry, I just couldn't stay in that town/Where everyone knows everything about...me".

A song has never made me cry. That being said, 'Tom Traubert's Blues' and 'Poor Edward' by Tom Waits are the two most depressing songs I've ever heard.

Some lesser known songs, but just as moving: Hoppipola by Sigur Ros Oh, wow. Hoppipola is like one of the prettiest songs I've ever heard. I don't even know Icelandic and that song still makes me bawl every time I hear it.

I haven't read the whole thread yet so I don't know if mine have been mentioned, but I can't listen to Goodbye Norma Jean by Elton John unless I'm willing to cry. It really captures the tragedy and beauty of Marilyn. She was beautiful and radient, but there was such a sadness to her, and I think that's why so many people connect to her even today. The lyric "Loneliness is tough, the hardest role you ever played/ Hollywood created a superstar and pain was the price you paid" gets me the most.
Sara by Fleetwood Mac/ Stevie Nicks never fails to make me cry like a baby. I always thought it was beautiful, but then I found out the story behind it: Sara was Stevie's best friend, and she died very young of an illness. Saddest lyric? "All I ever wanted/ Was to know that you were dreaming/ There's a heartbeat/ And it never really died"
Both Time After Time and True Colors by Cyndi Lauper make me cry because they're so beautiful and heartfelt. The last time I saw Cyndi live she dedicated True Colors to Mathew Shepard, the high school boy who was murdered for being gay. My God did that have me sobbing.
Pat Benatar's Hell Is For Children is incredibly sad. It's about child abuse; she wrote it when the Lisa Steinberg case was in the news.
The Heart of the Matter by Don Henley never fails to make me cry. Forgiveness is tough, especially when it's not reciprocated, but it's necessary in order to find peace.
Harry Chapin's Cats In The Cradle. Nuff said.
My God, I am such a wuss. That was a lot more songs than I intended.
