I need to start playing Bio-shock. I really just played about 1/2 hour of it.

Now playing Fable II, I like the action (although there are only short bursts of it and you have to go looking for it), but the gambling games are terribly overcomplicated, and the jobs that help you make money are intensely tedious. I finished the game with a very boring and quick final battle (one gunshot). Finding stuff is neat though.

I picked up Deadly Premonition (360, $20) and it's kind of clunky, but getting better. If you liked Twin Peaks, you should consider this game. It even has cherry pie and coffee.

I'm replaying through Resident Evil 4 on PS2. It's almost criminal how fun that game is, it's incredibly well-designed. Also, the game really plays out as an over-the-top B-action/horror movie with some legitimately creepy moments. All it needs is Commando-era Arnold Schwarzenegger instead of Leon Kennedy as the player character, and it would be gaming perfection.

In Deadly Premonition, the FBI agent has conversations with his alter-ego Zach whenever you drive around. He constantly reminisces about 80's movies. Yesterday he mentioned he sneaked into CBGBs when he was under-age to see The Ramones, and how he loved early punk stuff and groups like the Buzzcocks and Brit bands like Joy Division. He's always smoking, but he seems to snuff out the butts and pocket them. There's even a Log Lady type character in this, except she carries a cooking pot instead of a log.

I've been playing a few old games lately. I dug out my ancient copy of Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (and had to play it on an old computer, since Vista can't play windows games that are more than a year and a half old, apparently), and it's still just as fun as I remember. It plays very much like a late 90's FPS, and certainly LOOKS its age, but damn, I forgot how cool some of the weapons were, and how much fun the game was. There's a section where you infiltrate an old-style Mirror Universe starship, for God's sake! It's fantastic!
Playing through the sequel now. Not quite as much fun, but the graphics are much better, and the gameplay's a little smoother. It doesn't take you to as wild of places, but it's still a decent successor.
Before I loaned my Wii to my sister for a few weeks, I was playing X-Men Legends 1 (one of the reasons I started playing Elite Force was because I no longer had the Wii). I like the story in Legends 1 more, but the character selection and points distribution system in 2 really does it for me. I mean, any game with Deadpool as a playable character is always fun. I was about halfway through 1 when I loaned out the Wii, so hopefully I'll be able to pick it back up when I get it back. I'm about halfway through at the moment, and just finished up that pain in the neck Arbiter mission, where you have to save people from a sinking ship. Had to do that a few times.

Oh man, that brings back good memories. FPSs generally show their age, but relative to when it was made, the first Elite Force game is one of my favorite shooters. Given that it's based on a TV show license, that just makes it all the better. Tons of fun, and the Mirror Universe was a blast for me too. I agree that the second wasn't as good. It was a fun game, but it just lost something intangible in the update. The graphics are better, but at the same time the characters look more uncanny (especially the ones that try to be real people, like Patrick Stewart). I didn't like the way the game treated autosaves, either, creating a crapload of useless files. On the plus side, though, there's a hilarious ongoing reference to the series' predilection for improbably skimpy costumes, played completely straight and appearing for no apparent purpose. I also like the fact that you can make minor changes to the story through dialogue choices. Still, though, something fun was lost between the first and second games, but I just can't quite figure out what it was.

The thing is, the second one seemed a bit more phoned-in. All of Patrick Stewart's lines made Captain Picard sound INCREDIBLY BORED. Maybe just because it was a sequel, but there seemed to be less team interaction in the second one. In the first one, the Bolian guy was a technician, the Asian-looking guy was the demolitionist, and the jock-looking guy was the team douche. The weapons were cooler in the first one too.
In the second one, it was less of a team, and more of you and the lady. And the skimpily-clad alien dame with the blue eyes.
-=EDIT=- Just about done with the second game now. I had forgotten how much fun the Romulan mission was, and how amazing a weapon the Disruptor was. I had also forgotten about all the hidden stuff there was in this game. Those little golden starships hidden all over the place unlock other secret maps and concept art galleries at the main menu. I just shot up a swamp shack filled with monsters thanks to my compulsion to search each map I'm in. Like I said, this one was fun and had more stuff in it, but something intangible was lost in the upgrade, like CH said.

I've taken up playing a Myst sequel called Uru Online. Right now the game play is finite, but the hope is to open source it for fan created content in the near future. And it's free!

I've been playing The Saboteur for XBOX360 for over a month now and have been blowing up way too many Nzi installations throughout Paris. Loads of fun! ;D

I read a review of The Sabotuer and it sounded like fun.
I picked up GTA San Andreas and The Simpson's Hit & Run at a garage sale for a buck apiece. They were (original) X-box games and not all of them are backwards compatable to the 360. SA worked fine, but apparently The Simpson's game is too scratched up to play. Bummer!
Red Dead Redemption (GTA on horseback in the Old West) is already pre-ordered. That should be a great game. PETA members should steer clear...

Can't wait for Redemption, I was a giant fan of it's predecessor, Red Dead Revolver. Such a great western tale.

Monster Hunter Tri. I finally bought a Wii game for myself rather than my son. And I'm hooked. I played one of the PSP ones a bit, but got frustrated. This time, though, I know what to expect, and I'm hooked.

This time, though, I know what to expect, and I'm hooked. Man I wish I could give this one a try, but I don't have a Wii. I absolutely loved the first Monster Hunter game for the Playstation 2. I would probably still be playing it now and then if the servers for the online portion of the game hadn't been taken down. Here's hoping that Monster Hunter Frontier for the Xbox 360 makes it to the US, as that's the only current system I own.
