I liked the episode. I really liked Chang in the first season, and really haven't liked him since. This is an interesting twist that will limit Jeong's mugging for the camera.
Also- It might be because I know Chevy Chase won't finish out the season, or because he knew it when these episodes were being filmed, but he hasn't brought anything funny to the table. It's like they stopped writing jokes for him. It's too bad they didn't just end the Pierce character with last season's finale when he had a bigotry breakthrough at the trial. It would have been cleaner.

It would have been cleaner. I agree. In the beginning he was just a flat-out hilarious character, but then he became kind of a spoof of himself. Just overdone. But the Kevin thing is kind of interesting. I'm not sure if I buy it, but I like it. I also agree on Chase. They could have cut a lot of dead weight if they had just let him go at the and of last season. Not sure why they didn't – contract obligations? But he has not been integrated very well into this season. The whole thing with Jeff and his scar, I don't know. That all seemed a bit much to me and definitely out of character for the show. It's just a little too on the head for me emotionally. I like it when you don't see the emotional point coming, and last week's episode you could see it coming from a mile away. I don't know, just me. Bring on tomorrow's episode.

last night's ep was a disappointment to me. felt too sitcom-y. the story line was just too wacky - we got a bad grade, so let's tie up the professor until he agrees to change it, gang! though i was glad malcolm mcdowell got more face time on this one. but i'm getting tired of the whole changnesia bit. i miss chang of old. the only part that made me almost laugh: britta's judgey face.

I have been so behind on this and The Office, but I finally sat down and got caught up (I think) last night. I'll try to keep this brief.
Britta vs. Dean at the battle of the dances wasn't too bad, but anything that gives Pelton something to do is pretty watchable. And while I see what you're saying, spice, the last few episodes with Chang are making me laugh again. It's not the old Chang, but I'm digging it. Too bad it looks like it's all a ruse.
Puppets - I flat out did not like this episode. For one thing, I think the Muppets in general are completely overrated. Don't care for them in the slightest, so this one was definitely not up my alley. And were they trying to reference something specific with the singing? Sesame Street? Maybe if Harmon had still been at the helm it might have been tolerable, but god I hated it otherwise.
The tie-up-the-professor episode wasn't too bad, though. It was the little things with McDowell that I liked, I think. His commenting that Jeff's apartment was "very feminine" was almost a throw-away line that was barely heard, but his delivery kills me on those types of quips. I agree the whole thing was a bit too much of a zany scheme, I thought it was decent.

i agree - the puppets episode was pretty lame. there were two parts, though, that i did like. one was seeing jason alexander (he'll always be castanza to me) in his brief role as the guy who lived in the woods. the second part was the exact moment the lsd effects of the berries kicked in and their dorky song suddenly went slo-mo. it's funny to think if they had done the same muppet theme while harmon was still in residence, it might have been a whole different episode. ^took me forever to find that. i couldn't believe how many...uh... naughty pictures there are out there of alison brie. yowsa - pretty opposite of her annie character. ...or is it?

this season has definitely been a hit-and-miss kind of thing, but last night's show renewed my hope for it's future. pretty good episode - and what impressed me the most was glover's impersonation of pudi's abed. spot ON. the voice, the hand gestures, everything. abed was a little weak as troy, but not bad. sometimes i get a little exasperated with their relationship - either put them together as a couple and get it over with, or let them branch out just a little. it was endearing to me at first, how close they are, but after a while - come on. but it was kind of touching last night, how abed knew exactly how troy was feeling about his relationship with britta.
i'm glad they finally officially broke up. and i'm glad they didn't make it a huge thing, considering half the time i wasn't sure they were still together or not. it's a relief to get them back as friends.
and wow - jim rash did an awesome impression of mchale! i had to laugh at annie's confusion over her feelings when she was around him. the outtakes thing at the end was funny, too. made me nostalgic for ♫ troy and abed in the morning. ♫

Yep, me too. They kept putting off the decision as long as they could, too. Still, I'm glad they're bringing it back, even though I don't think it's as strong a show without Harmon at the helm.

hopefully nbc realizes they are short on comedies, when they once had that nice cushion of the office and 30 rock, among others. i wonder if that is true or they are just messing with us? i didn't even notice it at the time, but six seasons and a movie might be pretty cool. what did everyone think of the season finale?

I liked it, but the new guys don't handle the really odd aspects of Harmon's vision as well as he did. Paintball, darkest timeline and a lot of that stuff just don't ring as sharply as they used to.
But that's fine, because this season and the finale reminded me that I really do love these characters and how well the actors do with them. Troy and Abed are still Troy and Abed, Britta is still cutely dorky and Jeff can bring the smarm with the best of them. The dean may be the best character on the show. Even the new soft-boiled Chang has grown on me, probably because of the contrast to the old Chang. Even Pierce, who I'm suddenly sad to see go.
I did like how good and evil Abed seemed to be about the same guy, whereas evil Abed was much darker in his previous appearance at the end of last season. Also loved how evil Abed revealed that The Cape was a huge hit in that world after they retooled it for cable.
Evil Abed: "Wanna watch it?" Good Abed: "Desperately."
And hey, if they can score a fifth season, maybe they can get a sixth. Should we get the Kickstarter campaign for the movie started now?

I didn't like the last season as much as I wanted to. I tried hard to stay unbiased and not nitpick post-Harmon episodes just because they were post-Harmon episodes. But I just didn't laugh much this year. Like Mod said, a lot of the big moments just didn't ring as sharply as they could have. The jokes per minute and the random nonsense were sorely lacking. Donald Glover was on too short a leash, too.
That being said, I really enjoyed the penultimate episode with the backstories and the frozen yogurt. Especially the inside joke from Glover that, "We all can be Spider-man!"

that's true - donald glover was waaay underused. i can't remember if i mentioned this before, but did anyone else catch his cameo on 30 rock as a young tracy jordan? it was so unexpected and funny. i watched his standup a few months ago and that was also pretty funny.
this season was hit and miss with me - i either really liked the ep or found it much too meh. i am tired of the pattern they've fallen into - the gang thinks one way, jeff thinks they are all idiots for thinking that way, but by the end he is convinced and makes a sappy speech. and i know i've said i'm tired of how fragile abed is - the slightest change sends him to his happy places and they all have to coax him back. he's a great character - they all are great characters that have developed a good, working chemistry with each other. if they can survive another season, they could keep going - at least i hope they will.
but two questions - one - i thought the season finale would feature the whole chang story - when will this be resolved?
and if the show does succeed, how are they going to get around the fact that they are at a community college and will sooner or later have to graduate/move on?

Well, they could get together every once in a while, provided they all stick in the area. I am glad that NBC decided to renew the show, it isn't as good as it was before but it's still better than 90% of all other NBC shows.
