so what did you guys think? worth the wait? things i liked: i liked how they are trying to ease us out of every scene taking place at the school, when clearly, they can't be expected to remain in community college forever like half the guys i've dated. i liked annie and shirley's prank - how annie thought the extent of it would just be going into the dean's office unsupervised. i also like joel. yowsa. i really liked them having fred willard on the show last night, replacing chevy. i wish they had done that two seasons ago. i love willard. he's awesome. okay - what i didn't like - i'm tired of everyone having to coddle abed every time there is the hint of change in their lives. how many times do we have to go through this? his happy place where they all lived in a sit-com was irritating to me because of the overplayed laugh track. and if they had stuck with the animated babies thing, i probably would have bailed completely. i don't think i like brita and troy as a couple. it's one of those things where i like them separately, but not together. i feel the same kind of way about the ingredients in coleslaw. i did like their fight in the water fountain, though. okay, i do like that the dean is going to be living next to jeff. but he is waaaay over the top now. his little costumes and themes were funny, but it's too silly now for me - it was better (imo) when it was more of an occasional thing. it's good they seem to be trying to evolve from the school setting because his part in it is just getting ridiculous. and someone want to explain this to me??

So glad it's back, but as a long-time viewer, I definitely could sense a change in the Community universe. It's still the same show, but somehow different. If they hadn't already crafted these characters into loveable favorites this might not work.
That said, it was a fun return. I too liked Fred Willard in the Pierce role and agree he could have filled that role from the beginning.
I'm so used to the dean being crazy that anything he does amuses me. Yeah, the Hunger Games thing was a bit extreme, but at this point I'm just digging the interaction of the main characters again.
And yeah, what was up with Chang? Was that a Hunger Games thing, too? I haven't seen the movie so I wouldn't know.

Good to see Fred Willard get work after his little incident.

funny to see them do their halloween episode last night. i thought it was more low key than their last couple of halloween shows. it's another theme - jeff trying to convince the others that pierce is not worth the time they spend on him, but he ends up committing to it anyway. the costumes were fun - annie's was freaky! loved it. and troy was absolutely adorable. but it looks like jeff is getting one step closer to contacting his real father. anyone heard any rumors of who they might cast for it?

I don't think I've heard who's been cast, but that phrase alone should tell you how good my memory is.
I'm still feeling odd watching the new episodes. I don't know if it's the flow, the lighting, the camera styles or what but there's something different I can't quite put my finger on. And then there's the end – Jeff looking at that number. That's a break from the usual for Community, as well.
Still, I'm digging it. And Britta is adorable as anything she dresses as Halloween for.

They did cast it. If I remember correctly, Jeff's dad is a major plot point for the Thanksgiving episode. He'll be played by...(drum roll)... James Brolin And it took me a while to figure out all of the costumes. Abed's especially didn't click for at least half the episode (I finally got it when I saw him and Troy in the same shot). Maybe it's because I missed the first few minutes. Did they explain who they were at the beginning?

interesting choice...wonder how he got the gig? and as far as the halloween ep, i missed the first few moments, too. i knew i knew who abed was, but i couldn't think of the character. was he some kind of who?
i got a phone call about halfway through last night's show, so i missed the end. up until that point, it wasn't that funny, i thought. how did the end play out?

Abed and Troy were Calvin and Hobbes. Britta mentioned that she and Troy were supposed to coordinate their costumes, but I'm not sure what that meant Troy was supposed to be. Unless a tiger and ham go together?
I was sad they didn't get Shirley another costume that could be two things.
Last night's episode was my favorite of the three so far this season. Maybe because I like Dr. Who, so I love the Inspector Spacetime gags. I thought they had the main 7 paired off in interesting plotlines, and some of the jokes were as good as Dan Harmon's. Particularly Jeff's panic about his hair loss. I also loved that Tricia Helfer (from Battlestar Galactica) played the hot Sci-Fi Convention fan. The tag with the Pierce-influenced American version of Inspector Spacetime was awesome, too.

I liked it, too. And I'm getting used the new style.
The cameo by Tricia Helfer seemed completely wasted. They could have had anyone in that role, although I did like her talking about how the Inspector Spacetime is a metaphor for all sorts of different hings – could have easily been Battlestar Galactica she was talking about.
I loved how Abed's British buddy worked in the Nigerian banking industry and had him send him 800 pounds so he could attend the convention. When Britta thinks Abed has been taken, his buddy shows up and promptly gives him a check and comments about how many people he had emailed that message before someone finally helped him. I thought that gag worked great.
And that tag - was that Luke Perry as the inspector? If it was I could totally see Pierce suggesting him for the role because that's who he would think is the young, hip actor of the time.
Good stuff.

calvin and hobbes! as a c&h fan, i am distinctly ashamed of myself. i thought abed looked like a dr. suess character of some kind. d'oh.
maybe i need to watch it online and try it again. i'm not into dr. who (may the fans forgive me), but i liked the jeff/annie/helfer triangle. i loved annie childishly enjoying room service.

Last night's ep made me sad. Not nearly enough good lines, terrible villains (they were annoying in the foosball episode, too), and a cliched, sitcom wrap-up (they paint the second study room and everyone just forgives them?) Even a wasted cameo from the great Malcolm McDowell.

evidently the community gang will be muppitized (i own that phrase, patent pending) in an upcoming episode. i can only imagine. abed and pierce's muppets look pretty spot on.
