Is there anyone who likes Joel better than Mike? Most people seem to prefer Mike.

I don't have much experience with Mike. Surprisingly enough, the host I have watched the most of is Jonah since I've only watched a few of the classic episodes so far. To me, as long as the host is entertaining, then that's all I really care about. From what I've seen, each host is different enough from each other to be good in their own ways. So, I would say Joel, Mike, and Jonah are all pretty equal.

It goes back and forth. Back in this board's heyday a lot of our folks favored Joel. We have less active posters today, but I'm sure there are still a few Joel fans left.
My MST growing up was Sci-Fi era, so I have Mike, Kevin, and Bill imprinted in my head as the definitive cast. But I've grown to love them all.

I usually at least chuckle throughout Mike episodes, but the episodes that made me laugh out loud (Mitchell and Eegah) were Joel episodes.

I started on Joel, and there will always be parts of him I'll find funnier than Mike. His sleepy delivery, for one thing. That said, Mike is extremely funny. They were lucky they had him when they needed someone to step in.
Also, Joel, Trace and Kevin was the first lineup I saw, and that sticks with me as the strongest group. To each their own, though.

Been a fan since 1991. I think the show in general got better in the Mike era, but I like Joel's personality more than Mike's. I like the dynamic between Joel and the Bots better than Mike. But I do think Mike's episodes are generally funnier and the sci-fi cast were the best performers in the theater.

Joel.
I love Mike, heck I started watching during the Mike era. But Joel's delivery, that slow, sleepy style, just slays me.

I thought Joel had a bit more spice to his jokes. But Mike definitely kept the show going and they’re both funny in their own unique ways.
Jonah Ray has even kept the new series going quite well.

I started on Joel, and there will always be parts of him I'll find funnier than Mike. His sleepy delivery, for one thing. Yes, that sleepy delivery, exactly. Joel's demeanor and approach were perfectly woven right into the fabric of the show. He simply delivered the lines, naturally, and let the comedy come almost entirely from them whereas Mike would put too much effort into "acting" when delivering his. As such, Mike always came off to me as, to some degree, distracting. It felt like Joel was in his own, self-designed, element whereas Mike was almost always trying to fit in as the substitute, non-progenitor while simultaneously auditioning for his next gig. Having said that, I still liked Mike. He was funny and the writing was still often so good that my perception of his overacting didn't work to ruin the show on the same level as I felt, say, MJP did. But Joel and his disinterested, yet ultimately compelled and caring father figure report with the bots was more appealing than Mike fitting in as the 3rd in a trio of pals with them. Yeah, I liked Joel better.

When they made the switch, I had a hard time with Mike. Now I like him, but ach host brings his own thing. Of course, Mike was a writer when Joel was hosting, so his jokes were already circulating with the tapes.
