I've learned something. It's that most people who watched The Return really liked it, and those same people do not talk about The Return online. If they had, we would have expected $2 million on Day 2. Netflix, who needs ya? This is easily hitting the 5.5. Yeah, this confuses me too. For all I can see, the MST3k community is dead. ForrestCrow, MST3kInfo, even the MST3k subreddit are all pretty much ghost towns. Do they see some activity? Of course. But you'd never guess that this fanbase could raise $1m overnight based on its online presence. It’s on Facebook.

I think some people here are vastly underestimating the amount of MST3K fans who don't see the need to join communities like ForrestCrow or MST3kInfo, and if they are in communities they are largely in the comments sections of the Kickstarters or on various Facebook groups. The Netflix seasons both revived people's interest in the show and created new fans, and I think a bulk of them cannot be found on organized online groups, but they do show up for Kickstarters or live events. I'll admit, from my own experience, that I have avoided some of the previously mentioned fansites because of how abrasive some community members could be and how hands-off the admins were (okay, I'm talking about MST3K Info)

I'm wondering if the top-heavy start to the campaign (which they've already said they didn't expect) has altered their rollout plans for buzz and excitement events and the like. Community outreach type stuff and buzz builders they were so good with last time.
Joel said in a brief update last night that they're pushing the first real update to today. A short FAQ was uploaded late last night, mostly about rewards.
They've already hit 25%+ of the total backers from the first KS. It'll be interesting to see if the pool of available MSTies is wider than it is deep. The pockets on these first-come fans is certainly deeper. Because I don't doubt the Netflix series brought a more casual, offline (or at least Facebook-only) kind of fan. But...I'm just wondering. About a lot of things...
I really had hoped for another real update by now.

Because I don't doubt the Netflix series brought a more casual, offline (or at least Facebook-only) kind of fan. But...I'm just wondering. ...wondering if any of those casual fans would give any money (let alone $100!) to a kickstarter for a show that just popped into their NetFlix queue one day and they gave it a shot and it was fun and then forgot about it after they binged it a little? Yes, that will be the big question. Big MST3K fans that came out with big cash after 25 years, it's no surprise they're still there after 30, it's the 'new fans' we'll have to see what happens with. Because, despite what that first two days were and despite some people here not liking my attitude, there's no way I'm alone. I gave over $1000 to that first kickstarter* and I'm probably going to give $0 to this one. I really don't believe all 50K backers from the first KS will be back for this one. We've seen that 10K are back right out of the gate. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here. *I've stated this elsewhere in this subforum, but I'll say it again here. I'm mostly satisfied with the first KS and don't regret my pledge at all. It was mostly paying Joel back for all the original MST3K he gave us reguardless of how well the Reboot was going to turn out. But that's the thing. I did that. I don't need to do it again.

But I'm certainly not giving the 250 I gave the first time. I guess I'm just wondering about the retention rate. Of the 48k, what % return, and of those that do, at what % of their prior do they pledge. And what % of backers are totally new. I think I saw somewhere so far that # looks to be north of 10%. Lots of moving parts.

Hello, thought i'd give my two-cents. I look to this board sometimes just to see what people think. I miss boards, it's a lot easier than keeping up with all the Facebook posts on my phone, and yea a lot of people don't come to these communities because they can be seen as antiquated and, as noobs, feel like this is really your territory and they don't have much to add to the discussion, so they just lurk. I was part of the MST3K Digital Archive Project back in the day, so not really a noob. There's just a lot of people and they are really spread out now that there are more platforms, or they simply just watch the show. So I can see how you can get stuck in a cynical bubble with "basically two guys who don't want anymore MST3K" after so many years.
But yea, MST3K fanbase didn't go away after 15 years, its not disappearing in 5 years either after a successful revival. You might be discounting many of the new fans that come about, thanks to new shows and live tours and such. So all those KS backers are still out there and probably then some. I predict this new KS will get 50k+ backers and the 6+ million it did last time, despite a small amount of disillusioned fans, there's obviously new backers to fill that hole, and like me, repeaters that are willing to put more in money after seeing how well Season 11 came out, the doubt of which was the biggest part of the cynicism in 2015. Now that people are seeing everything they are paying for and how well Joel makes on promises, its a safer investment. So much so that I am prepared to come in with more if need be for my long-time favorite show, but ill be waiting to see how the final days play out and if it will really be necessary. Yesterday's numbers didn't surprise me, and comparing the data from the last KS, I'd bet on reaching 2.7 by Sunday. We have about the same amount of backers at the same point in the first KS and its growing at the same rate. But we'll just see how well things play out.

This might be asking for too much, but I wonder if this Kickstarter could potentially mean we could get K03 as a reward.
Hey, I can dream.

48 hour mark, also.

In a FB group (lol) someone was stating that Joel told them that K03 didn't exist anymore, and that they were under an NDA not to discuss how or why the episode is gone. Take that for what you will. We know that the episode existed about a decade ago, when clips of it surfaced on the old official website. Those clips now live on YouTube. I hope it turns up!

I'm guessing when Jim was transferring over clips of K03 to the old website he accidentally destroyed the U-Matic tape or at the very least made it inoperable.

That's all too believable.

I don't undersand why Shout! has never been open about the status of the KTMA masters. The fans are obviously interested, and I can't see what they stand to gain by withholding the information, whether it's positive or negative. While K03 is the holy grail, the condition/extancy of K04-K21 is still highly desirable knowledge. I guess we're not entitled to it, but it's nonetheless frustrating to still be in the dark this many years after the acquisition. I mean, the tapes are there or they aren't.

Now, if Joel were to make K04-K21 downloadable extras like he did K01 and K02...I'd absolutely back this KS whole hog.
I'm 100% serious.
I should ask about it on the KS to put it out there in the ether.

I’d be curious how many of the KTMA episodes Shout would have movie clearances for. Since they currently have rights for Gamera, now would be the time to do it.
