I'm not kidding. I would kill for a good copy of Cosmic Princess, Humanoid Woman, City on Fire, SST Death Flight or Hangar 18. And it isn't even an issue of rights, Joel "gave away" the first 2 as bonuses. He could do it again.
Getting the first two KTMA episodes in the first Kickstarter in retrospect probably made it worth the money for me.

I think it was a case where Shout! already had the STINGRAY rights in hand. Yes, they could do something similar with any other KTMA episodes that are in the same situation, but I don't know how many happen to be.

This might be asking for too much, but I wonder if this Kickstarter could potentially mean we could get K03 as a reward. Hey, I can dream. Just an answer on what happened to K03 would be fine.

In a FB group (lol) someone was stating that Joel told them that K03 didn't exist anymore, and that they were under an NDA not to discuss how or why the episode is gone. Take that for what you will. We know that the episode existed about a decade ago, when clips of it surfaced on the old official website. Those clips now live on YouTube. I hope it turns up! If that's true I'd really love for Joel or Shout to make some sort of public statement. I'm sure if there's an NDA a statement could be said working around it.

I was the one discussing that with the other person who mentioned that. I’m not fully convinced she’s being honest, but for now, my assumption is the tape still exists, just hasn’t been discussed or talked about

I'm guessing when Jim was transferring over clips of K03 to the old website he accidentally destroyed the U-Matic tape or at the very least made it inoperable. I hope that isn’t the case. It’s already bad enough he didn’t properly take care of the regular episode masters.

Not DVD quality but still fairly decent.

We were lucky with the Gerry and Sylvia episodes, but Shout is still in license with Tusburaya I believe. So there’s hope.

I don't undersand why Shout! has never been open about the status of the KTMA masters. The fans are obviously interested, and I can't see what they stand to gain by withholding the information, whether it's positive or negative. While K03 is the holy grail, the condition/extancy of K04-K21 is still highly desirable knowledge. I guess we're not entitled to it, but it's nonetheless frustrating to still be in the dark this many years after the acquisition. I mean, the tapes are there or they aren't. I agree completely! They just announced it in 2016 and haven’t been open about it since. It’s frustrating as fans kept in the dark about it.

Well this isnt the public statement you wanted but Joel took some questions in today's promised update. It seems the Gizmoplex will indeed operate like a streaming service where episodes are released sporadically rather than the Netflix model. 12 episodes means one will be released every month along with a short and any live or special events. if we hit the 5.5 goal that is. My concern is, is Joel going to wait until the 12 month run is over to think about how we are going to fund the next season or are we doing the whole process from scratch again after content runs out, resulting in waiting 2-3 years for another season. I wish that Joel had started on this last year, since the lockdown was a good opportunity to start on writing the show, as people were working remotely anyway.
hey KTMA bonuses could be up his sleeves as he knows he'll need to do something to keep momentum going. But I figured if he had them, they'd be released by now and not anticipating needing them for a rainy day when they get cancelled by Netflix. if he had that much foresight, id be trusting his judgement quite a bit more.
Nevertheless, the update is causing a small surge with 2.365 million and almost 13k backers, over 2.4 by day close is likely now

About the KTMA episodes, there was a Star Trek Deep Space Nine episodes where some of the characters time traveled back to an episode of the original series. Maybe they could do something like that with the KTMA's. Get into a time warp and splice the new characters in with the originals. The KTMAs riffing rate was low enough they could fit a lot more in. They could also have the originals dub in new jokes over some of the lamer jokes.
Then release the original uncut version at the same time with Joel explaining what it is.

Per Joel in the update, they're going to make downloading/watching all the episodes post Kickstarter "more expensive" than if you do the $100 reward level for 1 year and digital downloads.
Which I suppose makes sense as an incentive to get in NOW, but that begs the question...
100 for 12 month subscription is 8.33 a month; how much more can you make a per month subscription for someone subscribing post-Kickstarter that wouldn't be a total no-go? That is, how much are you realistically expecting a new consumer to pay per month? And is that price what the Gizmoplex will cost KS backers starting the 2nd year or whenever their backed tier level runs out?
I'm saying, what's the business model besides coming to fans every year directly for money. How do you plan to make this self-sufficient? We'll see, I guess.

Oh, and Joel teased a new cast member. "And, since I've seen a lot of you asking, I'll also tell you that we've also got some big plans to expand the world – and cast – of Mystery Science Theater 3000, so... I'll tell you more about that soon." Probably Emily. Who I haven't seen in anything myself to have any opinion of.

I guess we're not entitled to it, but it's nonetheless frustrating to still be in the dark this many years after the acquisition. I mean, the tapes are there or they aren't. Bargaining position. If a tape ever crops up, Shout might want to be able to buy it at a reasonable price, rather than last-remaining-copy-of-the-holy-grail price. If people think the master is safely tucked away somewhere, then the value of a copy is significantly lessened. Heck, someone might have already dangled a copy in Shout's face, and Shout doesn't want to admit the master was destroyed, because then the prospective seller would jack up the price. Collectors can be incredibly canny, and sometimes underhanded, in their dealings. And they're not always fans of the things they collect. Oftentimes it's just an investment to them.
