Have they (official MST3K) made any sort of public announcement that today is the deadline to sign up for the "Member Preview Period" of the Gizmoplex? I haven't seen anything on social media but maybe I missed it.

Amazon isn't an app though (even though you might be using an app to reach them). I think the key here is your buying something through an app. The premium is going to apple and google. naw man it is an app. I use the amazon prime app on my ps4 and my phone (android) to watch rifftrax.. cause it's way more convenient than using the terrible internet browser to get to my stuff on rifftrax.com and amazon's prices for rifftrax VOD are often cheaper than they are on the website. and there is no difference in the price of those titles on the app (on my ps4 or my phone) than there is on the website. But it isn't an app. It's a website that you are using their app interface to. When you make an Amazon purchase through the Amazon app, are you paying with your Google Play / iPhone account or are you paying with the payment method you have set up through Amazon.com? I haven't used the MST3K app, but I'm guessing when you buy episodes you're buying them as in-app purchases, thus the extra charge to go through Google/Apple.

I'll take a look and get back to you. I never thought about that nuance.

Something of note, there's no entry for the new season on the bbfc, the British ratings board. They had both of the Netflix seasons and all their episodes listed before their release. Not sure if self-published (or new streaming platforms) streaming shows need this certification, though.

Does Rifftrax submit their episodes? I'd assume that a series that is broadcast through a service that has a distinct British division/variant would do that, like Netflix, but since the new MST3K is just a product you access through an app/website that is accessible from anywhere that it likely wouldn't submit to the BBFC.

Just a guess, but I bet that was NetFlix' doing. I bet they do lots of stuff that little guys don't need to bother with. I mean they make "real" movies and get them MPAA certified and all that jazz.

Accompanied by an update drop. Backers will get their member passes/logins Monday. Livestream premiere is set for Friday 8pm ET. More info and updates to follow in the week leading up to the premiere after a month of no updates due to last of the production wrapping and other preparations for the premiere. If that's a preview of what the gizmoplex will be I'm all for it. My philosophy on web design is keep it simple af. Just a big play button in dark mode is fine with me.

A new Kickstarter updated was posted today. It's mostly just a collection of behind the scenes photos, which are pretty cool. I'm kinda surprised that nobody's really dissecting these. Like in the one where they're filming for The Mask, I swear the screen in the back is showing a script that says Jonah. So, is The Mask gonna be a Jonah episode? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. There's also a picture of Joel riffing one of the new shorts, along with a wholesome photo of all three hosts together. So, not really an informative update, but still pretty nice. They said they will answer ALL questions about the Gizmoplex and how to watch the new episodes tomorrow. We'll see how true that is.

There's one thing that jumped out at me, looking at the pictures. The one that has Joel, Servo, and Crow at the "desk" on the "bridge", in front of the green screen, showing on the monitor?
The printed fabric wrap used to wrap 2x4s for the "desk" (instead of an actual, built prop) has wrinkles. And those wrinkles showed up in camera, on the monitor. Nitpicky? Yes. Maybe they fixed it. Maybe they'll fix it in post.

What's up with the beanies? Cold in the studio?
Man, that green screen is just so lame. And that fake desk...

I can live with lame, unconvincing, cheap-looking host segments. The meat of the show is in the theater. As long as the writing is good, performance is coherent and funny and preferably shot "live", I can live with bad host segments. Like those MST3K vs Gamera fan episodes.

The show has always looked cheap and home-made. That's part of its charm. The original Comedy Central sets and puppets were on the level of Captain Kangaroo. Why would the Reboot be any different, and who would have it any other way?
