Sex is Good! Get over it... Anything that is not forced on another is good... You don't have to watch MTV. There's not enough erotica on tv... I mean real erotica, not The Man Show kind of stuff or Britney Spears. Now everyone's going to think I'm a sex nut

You damn kids and your sex! I agree with the old people in Creeping Terror that Mike adds dialogue for: "There is just plain no need for sex." Actually, I HATE talking about sex. It makes me very uncomfortable. I find sex to be a private issue, personally. Besides, I'm not perverted or anything. Now, I got to go, G String Divas starts at 11:00, and my new Playboy Magazine just came in the mail. Oh, but you're only gonna read it "for the articles" I suppose.

But what disgusts me is that you can talk about how your gonna go pick up you playboy magazine, and this porn sight, and everyone laughs, and thinks nothing of it. But if I or some other girl even mentioned Playgirl, everyone would be looking at us weird. and there'd be a long silence. and people would whisper "ooh she's sick" get it?

It's all in the wet wiring, biology. The species must continue and we (men) have this testosterone which drives us towards that "survival of the species" instinct. (Women of course have it to, the need to connect with someone emotionally and physically. But for men it's pretty much on the surface, this "Drive)
On the other: empowerment comes from within. Who cares what others think about you, are you happy with yourself?
You wanna buy porn Mary, go for it. And if I critisize you for it why should that matter. It's your life.
Lets put it this way: I once worked at a calander store during X-Mas. And when the women would walk by those Girle Caldendars, 90% would say... "What a slut, I can't stand that whore".
Why, why do you have to put someone else down in order to buld yourself up?
You might argue, "But men make us feel like... yadda, yadda, yadda". Stop right there. If your so concerned what a man thinks then you've shackled yourself to their world view. YOU gave them the power and YOU can't be truly free or liberated until what a society, men, women etc... thinks about you doesn't matter.
My wife has always liked Tom Selleck, thinks he's hot. I don't get jealous or put the man down or feel insecure about myself because A) He is hot, and human beings are biologically pre-disposed to find other human beings attractive. And as long as she doesn't pack her backs and move in with Tom Selleck, I'm secure enough to handle it. B) My self worth isn't tied to how I measure up to another human being.
So I'm not a stud muffin and I'll never win any beauty pagents. I have a brain that works reasonably well, I play guitar and write songs, so good for me, and good for the Model/Hunk, or the Doctor, or the Banker for whatever they have.
Don't worry about it. You can't change the world, you can't make everyone conform to a singular mindset, just be secure and happy within yourself and how you treat others. That's all that matters.
Relax. Smile. Breathe.

Mary? Miss Robot? I've been reading everything (or most, I'll admit, I skipped a bit) you've typed, and I feel you're assuming the stereotype you detest, when it isn't there! (hmmmm, that sounded a bit vague to me) Sex sells, yet you do not have to listen to (or watch) it. I do not watch MTV ever (in fact, I hardly watch television these days) The fact that a woman's ass is the subject of songs appauls me, simply for the fact that the song itself sucks! There is no creativity in those rap songs about the money and the "hos", etc. MTV.....you know all those "reality shows" and stuff.......notice how EVERYONE is beautiful? Both the guys and the girls? The guys watch it for the hot chicks, and the girls watch it for the hot guys. (granted, there are homosexuals, but you know what, who cares? we should stop adding them as a separate demographic so much and just include them with the rest of the population) So guys asses, eh? well, let's go back to Elvis......don't tell me he wasn't crooning to girls' hearts and the executives of the record companies didn't know. Take a look at any of these boy bands? that Justin T. guy, who is the target audience for his music? granted, it's a bit less subtle here (not so many crotch shots or ass shots). I actually would not know, since I do not watch music videos, whether there are any shots of Justin Timberlakes ass or not. BUT........my main point here is this: guys are stereotyped just as much as girls. Take a look at any commercial for an American beer (my favorite are the Bud Light commercials.....I'm being sarcastic here, of course) You have guys that are idiotic, bumbling, and single-minded. They only want the beer, and the hot girl with the beer, and they will make a fool of themselves in an order to look sauve/get the beer. Most of these commercials make me cringe, and I want to hit something. But I do not hit anything, since I can keep my self-control. Ah.....self-control, there is a wonderful thing. Most people look at a hot person and wonder what they would look like naked. GRANTED, most people can maintain their own composure and won't run up to someone and rip their clothes off, nor will they say it to their face. BUT, then you get into the debate of what is beauty? what makes a person attractive? That is too much for this post. I find that if you ignore the stereotypes, and just throw out all the crap on television, and treat your fellow man and woman with the same respect and dignity, you will find that most of the social discrepancies and prejudices that are presented to us everyday throught the media will disappear. It's hard to ignore, I know, but just leave Hollywood alone, and tell it to piss off. If any of that made sense, I'm very happy you understood it!

interesting point radagast, I suppose we've all got stariotypes against us, the idea of men having only one idea on their mind, and women useful for one thing, I know not all people think like that, I don't think men only think of sex, I mean my brother thinks of taking over the world too... (joke...laugh NOW) Hey not only is your gender part of a first impression, I remember I met a girl from a large city, and I told her I was from South Dakota, emidiatly I was a "farm girl" (and I'm not, I wouldn't last a day on a farm) she started asking if there where blacks portaricans, ect in my town, I was like no, we're not a very big city, and no one wants to come to SD. So then she assumed I was a racist.... now this isn't horrible (though the racist thing did piss me off) but perhaps I'm just saying people atomatically judge people without knowing, from sex to where your from. This bugs me, I may make fun of the french and canadians in general, but if I meet one I'm not gonna start slamming them because they're from that country. Sorry if this sounds all weird, I don't know if it's right, I've got lots of things on my mind and, I just got back from skiing so I'm tired.

And, since I was the first non-Italian AKA first African-American on the block, I bet people had suspicions too, and then when I proved more likable then some of their kids themselves, I bet the stereotypes toward me stopped.

The only stereotype I have about you is that you're 12. And that's a hard one to get by. But I'm trying.

but perhaps I'm just saying people atomatically judge people without knowing, from sex to where your from. you are absolutely right there. People have judged me because I was white, and because I live in the city and come from New York (though I always say I come from Brooklyn) People not form around here (like form the Mid West I meet in college) they are amazing how I am not boisterous, and I do not have a veyr noticable accent, and that I am familiar with things like politics and science. Seriously, why should this be surprising? What is even more amusing to me, is how I have been mistaken for other enthicities than what I am. I have been mistaken for Italian, Irish, Russian, and even Puerto Rican. People will believe what they want to believe, which is a shame. Nothing you've said sounds weird, Mary. I know, it's hard to come to grips with reality, and how people can be, but the first place to start is with yourself. Love one another and be happy! It sounds so simple, but it's the truth. Yet, it's the hardest thing to do sometimes. (geez, I'm preaching all of a sudden!) by the way, Happy Easter to everyone! ;D

I have been mistaken for Italian, Irish, Russian, and even Puerto Rican. People will believe what they want to believe, which is a shame. I'm one of the few white people who have to deal with racism in the airport. My skin gets a Middle Eastern/Hispanic quality to it, so naturally they give me extra attention. If I had a dime for every time a customs agent said "Little boy, can you speak En-glish?" I would have... 40 cents. I'm serious. My teachers think I'm Mexican, some kids in the school (I'm not joking) ask me if I can do their Spanish homework. I can't speak a word of Spanish, yet because I have a Mexican 'stashe, they stil did it untill last year when they got the hint.
