Hey everyone,
I just finished rewatching my copy of 820, Space Mutiny for the first in a few years and I noticed that, as movies on MST3K go, the special effects were not that bad. Yes, the acting was just horrible and the plot, costumes, and continuity... blech! But for a movie on MST, I'd say the special effects were pretty decent. So now I ask you this:
What movies in MSTs do you think have the best special effects? The worst?
I'm gonna have to say best special effects go to Space Mutiny. The spaceships, though electrical outlets, don't look too cruddy.
Worst special effects probably belongs to Giant Spider Invasion. Forget the crummy monster costumes of the CC era, or the film negatives of Prince of Space...they put a big spider thing on a car and that was their giant spider monster that was supposed to be scary. Classic.

The Gerry Anderson films have the best visuals. Theres a gorgeous crash in the Eagle hangar in Cosmic Princess...
Worst...Prince of Space?

My worst would have to the scene from "Riding With Death" in which footage of a guy ejecting from a plane is very unskillfully inserted into the film. Hilarious!

Holly crap with so many bad films how can you pick a worst? But Space Travelers (Marooned) won an Oscar for special effects. But they don't seem so special now.

Best special effects? Hmm well the intro to Time Chasers wasn't that bad looking(Which as Crow pointed out looked like an NFL graphic)
Worst? The Creeping Terror no doubt. At least the spider in Giant Spider Invasion looked like a spider where as the Creeping Terror didn't look like anything terrifying. Prince of Space also gets a mention because of that one scene which has Krankor flying up to Prince of Space and he looks like a doll being thrown.

The Creeping Terror has the worst special effects EVER. It's basically a blanket thrown over a couple guys who crawl on the ground. Attack of the (the) Eye Creatures was pretty horrible too.
The best? Definitely Space Mutiny.

Best is maybe Willis O'Brian of King Kong fame's animation for Black Scorpion
My fav bad fx is Beginning of the End esp. when the grasshoppers are on the side of the building and it's so obviously a postcard. They do a nice host seg about that with different stuff crawling across that background.

Being a big fan of horror films, I can safely say that the effects in Werewolf were some of the worst I've ever seen. They made the effects in Howling: New Moon Rising look good.

Let's not forget the pong-like computer graphics in Hangar 18.

Prince of Space also gets a mention because of that one scene which has Krankor flying up to Prince of Space and he looks like a doll being thrown. That's because it was a doll being thrown!!!

I only saw a couple of episodes, and The Creeping terror is really the worst. The Brains needed not to riff it. 'Twas funny by itself.
