I'm in the camp of "Bill is great, but I love Trace." Bill brought a lot to the show, and as Shep said, Bill had an impossible act to follow. After all, even Mike didn't have to try to be Joel. However, Trace is just so incredibly talented and versatile. Most of his lines were that much funnier simply because of the way he said them. I could not love him--Bill--so much, loved I not Trace more.

Being Crowjunkie, I think I can give my input. Crows character was constantly evolving. In the beginning, he seemed very childlike. Later, he began to grow up. He had his crushes (Estelle and Kim). He then became a young adult (early 20's). He wrote scripts and developed conspiracy theories. And in the later years he became jaded and cynical. I love all incarnations of Crow. For that reason I did not vote. That being said, to me Trace will always be who(m?) I think of when acknowledging the person that controlled the bot. He is the one who updated his look over the years. He is the maestro of puppetry on the show. He is the core of the bot that is Crow. Bill, in my humble opinion, did an excellent job in the character of Crow. He gave him an edge I find appealing. He was the adult, "big city" Crow. Not better or worse than Trace's, just different. That's my 2¢.

i've seen more bill episodes than trace, but i honestly like them both equally. trace was more playful (as was aptly noted) and bill, a few shades darker. almost like bill is the older, darker brother to trace's crow - does that make sense? anyway, i think they both gave their best to the show. there will always be those who prefer joel to mike, Dr. F to pearl, etc. i love 'em all!

If you take the poll question literally it doesn't ask which you personally prefer, but which is the better actor/puppeteer. Even by Bill's admission Trace is the better puppeteer. Bill got better as he went on but he couldn't equal the experience that Trace had. Now better actor is more subjective but given the range of comedic impressions that Trace did I think it gives him the edge. So I'm going to have to say that regardless of your personal preference the way the question is phrased the only answer is Trace. Deal with it.

Trace...
At the risk of being monosyllabic (which has five syllables)...

I've always liked Bill's Crow but I loved Trace's Crow. Either way, Crow has always been my favorite character.

Love Bill and, as was said, his task in replacing Trace was an immense task and one he performed admirably. But, Trace's Crow was the one I fell in love with and Trace is more of a vocal talent than Bill. Trace all the way.

I really admire Bill for making Crow his own. He could have tried to keep up the impressions and personality that were Trace's strengths, but that's not why he was picked to take up the Art Mantle. He instead infused his Crow with his interpretation of the character--and to be fair, they did write it as him being alone on the SOL for five hundred years--that would make any sentient 'bot go a little funny. So it was easier to accept the "personality changes" as organic to the character.
I really can't choose between them--for every "Trace" Crow moment there's a "Bill" that's equally funny. The show got lucky that the character could be performed two different ways by skilled performers.
