This thread would have been much more interesting if "both" had been an option. I'd love to see how the votes would have come out then. Trace and Bill both brought something unique to the puppet that the other didn't. I find myself laughing just as much when it's Bill as when it's Trace, and that's the real test. So no, it's not one or the other. It's both.
By the way, if someone who likes both Joel and Mike equally is a Joike, then is someone who likes Trace and Bill equally a Trill?

By the way, if someone who likes both Joel and Mike equally is a Joike, then is someone who likes Trace and Bill equally a Trill? Someone who likes Trace and Mike is a Trike! Someone who like Trace and Joel is a Troel! And someone who likes Trace, Joel, Mike, and... uh... someone whose name ends with "a" is a Troika!

The Mike vs Joel question is close. Mike's better in the theater but Joel's sketches were consistently Far superior. So it's Joel for me. And Josh v Kevin for Servo or the Mads vs the Pearl gang isn't worth doing. Kevin IS Servo and the Pearl gang doesn't hold a candle to the Mads. This leaves Trace v Bill for Crow.
It's not as clear cut as Kevin or the Mads... but this one still isn't close. Trace was Far and Away better than Bill.
Trace's Crow was quirky, cute, and quick-witted. He did loads of impressions and was always writing ridiculously off beat spec scripts or teleplays! I love the way he and Servo would bicker like brothers; it was so nuanced. It was hilarious and a great dynamic.
That all changed with Bill. Crow became kinda capricious and sardonic, like he ran outta clever and replaced it with mean for mean sake... as if that would make it funny. It still didn't ruin the show... it more ruined the sketches... but "ruined" might be a bit too harsh. He was fine when riffing--he didn't seem as much of a dickweed in the theater at least ;-) Trace was all around Much better though--sketches and in the theater.
I'm tearing into Bill's Crow a bit more than I meant to. The more the show drifted away from Joel and Frank and Trace the more the quality of the sketches really suffered. The theater quips were still great! And the way the final episode of the original run ended was sweet. So even though Bill's Crow was inferior to Trace's, the Corbet episodes are still definitely worth a watch.

Dead thread, but to be honest, I may as well give my thoughts.
I mean honestly I’ve always preferred Trace as Crow, voice and personality wise. While I think Bill was great as Brain Guy, I don’t feel Crow was the right character for him. Trace gave Crow such a likeable sarcastic and snarky personality that was played off very comical with his wise-cracking during the theater especially. Bill as Crow just….. kinda made him too much of a dickweed. It really felt like I was looking at an entirely different character than the one I was used to.

The more the show drifted away from Joel and Frank and Trace the more the quality of the sketches really suffered. There are actually quite a few Sci Fi era skits I really like and think are very funny, but you have to look at them differently. By that time in the series, they were almost all just standalone skits that the current crew of younger comedian/actors where writing performing. And I'm kind of talking more like 9 and 10. That whole having to have a continuing story in season 8 was a real drag on everyone.
