Lately I have gotten into the habit of staying up late and going on this message board. I usually watch VH1 while I am typing and Insomniac Theatre comes on every once in awhile. I have noticed a few strange/stupid music videos:
Hoobastank "The Reason" this girl is looking at a guy across the street and she steps off the curb only to be hit by a car. Then the guy she was making eyes at turns around and starts to rob a jewelry store. The girl's body is just laying in the middle of the street with all these people around and the guy that hit her starts out the song with "I'm not a perfect person..." yeah, no kidding! Then at the end it turns out the whole thing was a set-up. I just don't see how that goes with the song.
Britney Spears "Everytime" is she trying to commit suicide in this video? The twinkly, music-box background is also a bit disturbing. You'd think her boyfriend would be a bit nicer and not smash that vase, no wonder Britney slits her wrists and goes into the jacuzzi tub. Only to emerge at the end gasping like a fish with her mascara all gooped around her eyes, and what's with the scene where she runs in slow-mo down the hospital hallway wearing what I can only imagine is an oversized doily?

Heard this one was banned in the US. Saw it on Kazaa though. Really strange.

Some of the music videos on Beavis and Butthead freak me out. I'll never forget "Plant Man."

Radiohead's video for Just is semi-creepy and pretty creative.
Dope Hat by Marilyn Manson is a take off of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and is almost as creepy as the actual movie.
If I have to mention a video that most people here have probably seen, it would be Black Hole Sun by Soundgarten. It's more weird than creepy, but I think it works.
Pretty much any Tool video you can name has some wild creep out factor, the creepiest of which is Prison Sex. Sober, Stinkfist, Schism, Aenema, and Parabola are all creepy in their own way, but none hold a candle to Prison Sex.
The song is about child abuse, and the video reflects this symbolically. You may not know what was happening if you didn't have a place to start looking, but when you know what it's about, it's the creepiest music video out there.

my niece is terrified by the Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight" video.
Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun", definitely.

I guess this music video is more stupid than creepy, but the "Mm-Bop" Hanson video is about as bad as it gets. Now I'm thinking about that part in Quest of the Delta Knights where the kid is jumping in slow-motion and somebody goes "mmmmm-boppppp" in a slow, deep voice...that cracks me up everytime.
Sometimes I think a video is weird because I don't understand it, like the "Whip it good" video, wasn't there a cross-eyed Asian chick in that? That was weird...or the video where the girl dressed up as a bumblebee runs around in a field.

There's a scene in the prison sex video right towards the end where this big black alien looking creature takes a paintbrush and repeatedly strokes across the stomach of a smaller, child sized porcelain puppet creature. As the smaller puppet lifts his arm up in pathetic resistance, the camera focuses on the arm of the black creature who grabs the struggling puppet's arm and shoves it back down. All this while the black creature paints away on the porcelain puppet's body.
You can't beat that for creepiness in my opinion.

Do you realize that now I am going to have nightmares about Ryan in his banana hammock painting on poor porcelain puppets with the help of sinister, black aliens?!

Nightmares are good for ya I say! They're inspirational in so many ways that pleasant dreams are not. I stockpile my best ones for future art projects. It's like acid without the dangerous side effects.
I can't stress enough that the best nightmare fuel is organic. Veins, eyeballs, intestines, worms. Mix 'em all together and you can freak people out with little effort. I'm experienced with this.

I used to have nightmares when I was little, this always led to sleep walking and me sleeping on that purple, velvet couch in my dad's room. I only got nightmares when I had to stay at my Dad's house, funny ain't it?
Well, once I had a dream about these crazy astronauts who had pet lobsters that would climb up your legs...that was pretty scary. I used to have nightmares about "Salem's Lot" because I watched it when I was little
I guess dreams are good inspiration, a lot of realist art is like nightmares...we just finished a segment in Humanities: Art History about modern artists, I got to research Rene Magritte. I like his paintings, but the ones where the people are making out with the cloth over the faces was weird...I think it was called "The Lovers."

I don't know what I could do with astronauts and lobsters. Probably not a heck of a lot. It's kinda just reminding me of Teenagers from Outer Space.

Just some projects I've done in school. Good nightmare stuff. Cutting off my own hand and having a pig eat the worms that fall from the wound. Not a normal pig either, but an ugly babirusa.
Flowers with eyes, fingers with flower petals for nails, some good trippy stuff.

I'm guessing this was not high school.
So I assume you're an art major?
