2001/ A Clockwork Orange- I always wanted to see these movies before. Then I came into these boards and now I'm sick of Kubrick so I probably won't enjoy them. I'll see them when I stop coming here.
Stand by Me- all my friends are in shock that I haven't seen them and I'm so peeved by that, that I'll probably won't see it ever.
Top Gun- don't care at all for it.
Gone with the Wind- Haven't gotten around to see it.
Casablanca- just too much talk about it to enjoy it for know, but I plan to watch it.
Song of the South- haven't located it.
Metropolis- always end up renting something else, but it's on my list.
Silence of the Lambs- another one people are surprised that I haven't seen. Probably will watch it eventually but I'm in no hurry.
I'll probably remember more of them later.

I actually finally saw what many, many people consider a classic for the first time last night.
I finally saw Raging Bull
Wow...what an outstanding movie.

There are TONS of films that are considered classics that I've never seen, and never will. I absolutely have to be interested in the subject matter. If I'm not there is no way I will ever see the film no matter how well done it is. My top five films of all time are Goodfellas, JAWS, Aliens, Sin City, and Heat. That should give you an idea of the kind of films that I like. As was also pointed out in the original post, I am a HUGE fan of horror films.
I've attempted to watch some of these "classics", and I just can't get into them. The oldest film I've ever seen that I liked was Psycho. I firmly believe there wasn't a film made before 1960 that I will like.
I'm just going to go through the IMDB top 250 and list the ones I've never seen that I know people consider to be classics.
Casablanca - No interest in the subject matter whatsoever.
Schindler's List - Pretty much the same as Casablanca. No interest in the subject matter.
Dr. Strangelove - Just from the description alone it doesn't sound like a film that would interest me. I might give this one a chance anyway sometime though.
Citizen Kane - Absolutely zero interest in the subject matter.
Lawrence Of Arabia - As well acted as I'm sure it is, the subject matter would bore me. I'm sure some would disagree, but I know me. Give me an alien running around killing people or something like that!
American Beauty - I'm not sure if this is considered a classic, but it's #33 on the top 250 so obviously somebody likes it. Not one I'm going to waste two hours of my life on though. Looks to be the antithesis of what I like in a movie.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Another one I'm not sure is a classic, but it's also pretty high up on the top 250. Looked way to weird for me, and that right there guarantees I won't bother ever even attempting to watch it.
To Kill a Mockingbird - I can't stand racism of any kind, and even though I'm sure they probably try to show the ignorance of it, it's not something I want to see in a film. You can put American History X in that same category.
A Clockwork Orange - Sorry to the fans on the board... I tried, and it's just too goddamn strange for me. I know a LOT of people love this one, but it's just not for me.
Any of the Harry Potter films - I've never seen a second of any of these, and I don't plan on it. In fact, these are the only films in this list that actually annoy me, thanks to their obsessed fans. This would be due to the fact that not a day goes by where someone tells my wife and I we "need to see it". We're not interested in the subject matter so we're not going to get into them, period.

I've never seen:
Citizen Kane (actually, I got this from the public library when I was 13 and fell asleep while watching), Ben Hur, Spartacus, Casablanca...am I missing anything?

Change, you should watch a show called MST3K sometime. I hear they have those movie things in that show, sometimes.
Me, I've never watched...
-Any Kevin Smith movie (yes, yes, I know, I should watch Dogma, blah blah blah, I'll get to it.) -Akira -Animal Crackers (In my defense, however, I *HAVE* seen Duck Soup.) -Alien (I've listened to it while it was playing in the other room, but I've never actually taken the time to sit and watch it.) -Saving Private Ryan (I've just never really gotten into war movies) -Lawrence Of Arabia (I've seen enough of it to know that it's good, but it's always on TV when I'm in a hurry to go elsewhere.) -Superman 3 and 4 (do I NEED a reason to avoid these?) -Vertigo (I've got no clue why I've not seen this one yet.) -The [New] Producers (People tell me that I should watch this. I ask if it counts if I've seen the original movie. They say no, this is a movie based on a musical. I say that the musical was based on a movie. They get angry. Surprisingly, I don't get around to watching their movie.) -And MORE!

Most of the "popular" movies I haven't seen have been because I thought I would hate them. Almost all of them are new. In general I refuse to see remakes, sequels, and anything based on a television show and/or video game. I also usually hate puerile humor aimed at 8-year-old boys. I loathe big, flashy action films with lots of CGI, especially when they're disguised as horror films ("Van Helsing," I'm looking at you). Which pretty much leaves out everything made by mainstream Hollywood in this century. On the up side, it means I save a lot of money on movie tickets, which can in turn be spent on films that are actually worth seeing.
I do try and see all the classics, and I've seen most of the ones named. The only ones I'm ashamed of not having seen yet are "Citizen Kane" and "Seven Samurai," but they're both on my Netflix queue. As far as subject matter goes, I'll give pretty much anything a whirl (taking into account the above codicils). And generally, the weirder or more bleak and depressing it is, the more I'll like it. I'm funny that way.

I don't like bleak and depressing films, personally. Very few directors are able to pull it off without me feeling like their preaching at me (*cough*donniedarko*cough*), and as a result, I wind up not enjoying a lot of films that people tell me over and over and over that I'll really enjoy (*cough*donniedarko*cough*).

I'm not going to use a different term when there's no reason to.

Song of the South- haven't located it. It's semi-boring. And all of the "racist" content I think is that the movie portrays the African-Americans living on this plantation as happy people (which it's hard to imagine that even people who lived as slaves didn't find something in their day-to-day lives to be happy about) and the fact that it tells the story of the tarbaby (which that story pre-dates the term being used as a racial slur). Otherwise, the relationship between Uncle Remus and the little boy is touching and mutually respectful. It shows the adult attitudes as being wrong. But that's just my opinion. Make sure you get the good one. The one on Kino Video.

Could not agree more. I just can't stand movies that are pointlessly depressing or are depressing to show that life sucks sometimes....I live in the real world I already know this. I go to see movies to escape reality and lose myself in a story. I don;t want to come out more depressed than when I went in.
Other movies that are an example of this other than Donni Darko:
Ladder 49 City of Angels
God at the end of these movies I really, really wanted to huck someting at the screen
