Well the White Sox are in! As a Cub fan, I am extremely happy for them, but, of course, it means nothing to me at all!

You guys can keep the King of the Chicago Whiners cap now. Hooray! As long as they beat whichever NL Central bums they meet in the series, I'll be happy.

I don't mind being wrong here, kudos to the ChiSox for being deeper than I thought. Like I know anything. Should the Astros finish off the Cards, I'll be out. Even still, I'm torn on them because I don't really care for Pettite. Clemens, while a great pitcher, rubbed me the wrong way even when he was in Boston. Yet, I love guys like Biggio and Bagwell (one of the worst trades in baseball history, I might add: Bagwell for Larry Anderson?).

The White Sox are like lice this year WINNING lice. One thing I don't get: the Cubs/WhiteSox hatred. I was at a restaurant tonight and overheard Cubs fans just wishing all kinds of bad things on the White Sox. Why not just enjoy the fact that your city has two teams you can root for? I've heard people try to explain it in terms of social differences among north/south side, but that's a bunch of crap. It's a sports team, not a representative of a way of life, especially in baseball when players and owners have almost no loyalty to anything local.

Must be a Chicago thing, and a New York thing, and the same for every other city or state that has multiple teams. If Boston still had the Braves I'd support them as the second team when mine was out. Of course, that would be going back just a few years...

As a Cub fan and a 20 year north sider, I grew up hating the Cardinals. The White Sox weren't even on the radar. No one I knew even cared about the American League, let alone the White Sox.
I think the Sox fans started it when they started whining about how they never got any press, since the Cubs had WGN and a national fan base. And they whined about the overwhelming majority of Cub fans in their own city, even though they play in the worst neighborhood in town. When the new stadium was built and was a monstrosity, the whining just got louder.
But most of the hatred is on the Sox fans' end. Lots of Cubs fans are on the Sox bandwagon right now (maybe because their opponent will be the hated 'Stros or the more hated Cards). But I can tell you absolutely that if the tables were turned, you wouldn't find a single Sox fan on the Cubs bandwagon. In '03, when the Cubs choked, the only people happier than the Marlins were the Sox fans.

Holy crap.
What a hit by Pujols. And a great at bat by Eckstein.

What a hit by Pujols. And a great at bat by Eckstein. Wow. I was out playing trivia on Monday night (lost), so when I got home later, I turn on the TV to check on the game... it was top of the 9th with 2 outs, and Edmonds at bat. The rest of the inning... WOW!!!

DANG!
I was all cued up yesterday to get tickets. I figured I'd try online since I couldn't leave work to go to one of the special lines at US Cellular.
So. Noon on the dot, and I hit ticketmaster.com. I get a good spot in line, I have my four tickets all ready to go, and I even get to the last confirmation page right before you click the final "Buy my tickets" button. I'm all psyched because I'll get to take my dad to the first World Series game AND sell the other two tickets for a nice profit (I'm not above a little profiteering on pro sports...hate it for college, but for the pros, all bets are off).
But what happens? My damn browser freezes. Then it crashes. Of course, all the tickets were gone after 20 minutes for both of the first Chicago games. So by the time I log back on, they're all gone.
Technology.

Even though I loathe both teams, I'm really looking forward to tonight's game.
What I really want to see is another Lidge-Pujols matchup with the game on the line. And I want to see Lidge drill him in the back with a 98 mph fastball. Don't you think that would bring the confidence back to the 'Stros?
(And actually, I like Pujols a lot- even though he wears the wrong uniform)
