Welcome to Denver, the Mile High City!
The 2007 Meet-Up will take place here during the first weekend in June (1-3).
This thread is for planning and working out details on lodging, transportation, things-to-do, booze-getting, et al.
AIRFARE:
For those of you flying in, I highly recommend Frontier. It is the cheapest, and Denver is its corporate headquarters. We are also a hub for Southwest and United. But for low fares and lots of options on flight times, you can't beat Frontier in Denver.
TRANSPORTATION
Some of you will be driving in. Others will be renting a car. I am available to pick people up from the airport- first come, first served- I ain't a taxi service. The Denver airport is ridiculously out of town, so I highly recommend budgeting for a rental car if you can.
There is the newly finished "light rail" public transportation, which should get you around town for a reasonable price. Hopefully, enough of us will have cars so that we can plan events away from the hotel.
HOTEL
There are plenty of inexpensive hotels in and around Denver. I assume we'll all want to be in the same one. Which means we'll need to decide where in town we want to be.
Option 1: Downtown Denver. It's a great place to be. We'll be closer to the touristy places, and closer to public transportation. However, price may be prohibitive.
Option 2: Suburbs. Cheaper hotels, but it will require extra travel time and transportation planning to get into the city for sightseeing.
THINGS TO DO
1. The Mountains.
It would be quite silly to come to Denver and not plan at least one escapade into the mountains. Within about an hour's drive, there are hundreds of things to do in the mountains, from hiking trails to alpine slides to rafting to Red Rocks and more.
2. Denver Sites.
There's the Denver Art Museum. 16th Street Mall. Washington Park. The Mint (they don't give out free samples anymore). Coors' Field (The Rockies will be home against the Reds that weekend). And, of course, Casa Bonita.
3. Suburban Sites.
The metropolitan area of Denver isn't all that big. Boulder is not that far away. There's a ton to do in and around the suburbs, as well. If we opt for a suburban hotel, we can still plan a great event without needing to go downtown over and over.
The 3 days will fly by, and there's certainly not going to be enough time to do it all. So the more I know about everyone's hopes and expectations, the better a weekend we'll all have. (It goes without saying that there will be much revelry at the hotel, complete with a MST episode or three).
So please post your preferences, limitations, and ideas.
