What I was hoping for from game 1: A close game, won with a timely gapper by Atkins or Hawpe, just like almost every other Rockies win lately.
What I was expecting from game 1: A close game, where Beckett was slightly more unhittable than Francis, ending in a 3-1 Sox win.
What I learned from game 1: LaTroy Hawkins is the only Rockie pitcher who can miss the bats of the Red Sox. (LaTroy Hawkins!)
And that's a scary lesson, indeed.
Like most Rockies fans, I'm not devastated that Beckett won his start-- it was to be expected. It's the 13 runs and 812 doubles off of 5 different pitchers that frightens me.

Sorry, Dave Walker. I like you, but the Red Sox need to lose this series, and they should. That's OK, I understand. Game two was tight, it was competitive, even though nobody on either team knew where the hell the strike zone was. It's only two games, Rox fans. I can easily see the Rox taking two or all three in CO, I can also see a potential sweep - but I don't expect door number two. Let the games continue tonight. Oh, and it's phony Sox fans, as described here, that make me ill and give real Sox fans a bad name.

Oh, and it's phony Sox fans, as described here, that make me ill and give real Sox fans a bad name. Kinda makes you long for the days of Fred Lynn, Dwight Evans, and Calvin Schiraldi, huh? Okay, maybe not Calvin Schiraldi. [baseball nerd rant] Something changed for the Rockies in Boston. For the last 3 weeks of the season, they effectively had a magic number of 2 against them. Every game was a "must win, win-or-go-home, do-or-die" type game. For like 16 games. And many of them were won in the ninth or extra innings. But what was really remarkable was that there was a strange confidence at work. As you watched, you really didn't question if they were going to win, it was just a matter of how. When they came back in the 13th to beat Hoffman in the play-in game, it was extraordinary, but not really surprising at that point. Sweeping the Phillies & Diamondbacks seemed like a foregone conclusion. But something changed in Boston. Maybe it was the layoff. Maybe it was the Sox bats in game 1. But all of a sudden, the Rockies look intimidated. They look overmatched. Of course, they've been overmatched before, but it didn't seem to matter. Now it does. At no point during game 2 did I see (or feel) the confidence that this team has had in a dozen nearly identical games in the previous month. What I'll be looking for tonight is that air of positive inevitability that has been at Coors Field lately. If it isn't there, congratulations Red Sox. [/baseball nerd rant]

Be optimists, you Rockies fans: Matsusaka in Coors field, best opportunity for Rockies bats all series. I have this one down as a probable Sox loss. Lester in game 4 doesn't sound very promising either.

So how about that game at Coors field? 6-2. I LOVE BOSTON!! ;D Are you from Boston? I'm actually from Cleveland, and I tell ya, it's hard being a Sox fan around here because everyone is rooting for the Rockies for beating the Tribe. No one likes to aknowledge the fact that the world series is still going on. I have no valid reason for liking the Red Sox. I remember going to an Indians/Red Sox game when I was younger, and it was the first game that Manny Ramierez (or however you spell it) played back at Jacob's Field after going to the Red Sox. Man were people mad... I remember a bunch of fake money blowing onto the field from the section above me. It was pretty interesting.

Looks like it's all over. Barring some sort of miracle, they may as well just give the Red Sox the trophy. Ugh.

Boston is sort of scaring me tonight. The Rockies caught up fast, now the game is 4-3 Red Sox... the'd better do something. At least it's the 9th inning...
