Loads of great songs on the White Album. Just a terrific combination of classics ("Helter Skelter," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Revolution," etc.) and charming throwaways ("Rocky Raccoon," "I Will," "Bungalow Bill," etc.). My fav Beatles album of all-time. I don't know if I've brought it up here (I think I have) but anyone who's down with The Beatles really needs to get From Kinfauns to Chaos. It's a bootleg of the Beatles doing their first demos for The White Album. All four of them together at George's house. It's basically an unplugged version of the White Album. Actually, it's two discs, the Kinfauns half is the good stuff and the Chaos disc is endless versions of Revolution with Yoko Ono's insipid chatter between tracks. I can't describe how great the demos are, though. If you're a Beatles fan it's a must, must have. Speaking of Unplugged albums, I'm just listening to Nirvana Unplugged. Nice. Very nice. Normally, the Unplugged sessions were just cheap cash grabs, psuedo-greatest hits albums, but Kurt and co. did something very sublime with their's. I wish I hadn't lost so much respect for Kurt through his suicide, because I love the cannon he left behind. And to the rest of you, The Police and Hall and Oates? Man, I'm with you there. Good choices all around.

Listening to My Bloody Valentine comp. right now. Nice atmospheric music to go with my tea. Then I'll move on to something a bit more up beat like my Schulmadchen Report Soundtrack (you guessed: 70's exploitation film), then one of my Las Vegas Grind CD's (self-described as: "alcohol-soaked bump'n'grind 50's buttshake") and before I go out some acid-drenched 60's rock from my new Nuggets CD...
Don't you wish you were coming over...

I've been revisiting my youth, back when I lived in the pacific northwest. Th It's making me feel very sad and old. Time moves on, a new generation takes over and your left behind - Old, fat and irrelevant. Pretty soon your dead and then as each year passes, more and more of "you" is forgotten until all that's left is a name etched on a tombstone. But it was a good, fun run while it lasted. "sigh". Maybe I'll listen to "Green River" next. Those were the days... Get over it MJ. It's a New Year. Buy a synthesizer. Rock on! (Damn I miss the 90's too)

Soulfly - Prophecy.
What an excellent album! For those of you who are familiar with Max Cavalera, this album is VERY heavy. The rythym is filled with tribal beats, and the guitars are dropped down an octave to give it this extra-heavy feeling that fans of Sepultura would be familiar with. The coolest thing of all, though, is that Max is a born-again Christian, and the lyrics reflect it! My favorite song has to be "Moses". I get really pumped up to hear a REGGAE beat, complete with slurring trombones, that bridges into heavy metal!
Another one i've been listening to a lot lately is Alter Bridge - One Day Remains. "Open Your Eyes" may be the over-played single, but I still can't stop listening to it. It's a very emotional album that I would also highly recommend.

I have been a HUGE Sepultura fan since 1991 and I was lucky enough to get the chance to see them in 1994 before they broke up. I've seen Soulfly many times and even though I don't think they are as good as Sepultura was, I do enjoy them. I'm actually going to see Soulfly again on February 19th (My birthday!) with Morbid Angel and I'm really looking forward to that show! I need to get that album soon so I'm familiar with the new stuff they play.

The Beatles ARE the greatest band EVER, and my favorite beatle album is Sgt. Pepper. That one album has some of their greatest songs. On a side note, who the hell is that band that just remade "Across the Universe"? The new version sucked ass! Thanks for messing up a great beatle song. numnuts.

My musician roommate usually picks the tunes around here, so it runs the gamit from Elvis to Artie Shaw. I forced him to put the Mullets Rock compilation in just for the pure fun of it.

I've been on a recent music-listening binge, so here's a sample of what's been keeping me rockin'.
AC/DC - High Voltage: What more can I say? A great album.
Van Halen - Best of Both Worlds: A very solid compilation. With most "best-of" albums, there is almost always one song that isn't included, but that's not the case with these disks. Recommended.
Dead Kennedys - Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death: A different approach for a compilation album: Instead of just singles, there's also a mix of B-sides and rarities, which is very cool. If you like punk, check this one out!

Avenged Sevenfold-Sounding The Seventh Trumpet
Their first album. Not nearly as good as their fantastic second album, "Waking The Fallen", but you can hear hints of what was to come on this one.
I consider them to be probably the best NEW band I have heard since 1998 when I first heard Opeth. Real good stuff if you ask me. They are young kids but they definitely know what they're doing. Great guitarists, fantastic vocals, and you can tell they know their way around writing a song. Don't let their look fool you, it's not a reflection of how they sound. Not that the look of a band matters to me but you'll see what I mean.
I highly recommend picking up "Waking The Fallen" if you're a metal fan that enjoys melody in your metal!

AC/DC - High Voltage: What more can I say? A great album. Funny, I just put that one in now. I'm at work and I listen to CD's at my desk here all day. I can't stand radio (especially here) and since I have 700+ CD's I always have something to listen to!

Elliott Smith - Either/Or
You know, this guy's songs are just devestatingly beautiful. The fact that he died about a year or two ago just makes these songs resonate with more beauty and pain.
Oh, and Neutral Milk Hotel - In An Aeroplane Over the Sea
I beg you, no, IMPLORE you to seek this record out. It's bizarre and wonderful and amazing and transcendental and heartbreaking and every other ear-tickling adjective you could think of.
