I'm going back to my past even further.
Simon and Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence"
Great album. Listening to it now, as a lyricist Paul Simon could be, at times - oh whats the word - he could get a little full of himself and try too hard to impress his listeners with his intellect?
But when he'd settle back and let it be real, he was amazing and I realise how much of an influence he had on me as a songwriter. "Kathy" is a beautiful song, pure poetry. "Richard Corey" still has power and the title song "Sound of Silence" turns me green with envy (wish I could have written something that brilliant. The lyrics, melody and harmony all knock me out still)
Edit for typos

Wolfmother - They’re some band from Australia. They sound like Deep Purple crossed with Black Sabbath crossed with The White Stripes. I love this band – they sound like they time warped here strait from the early 70’s. While it would be wrong of me to post the whole song, so I made a sample if anyone is interested. (Low quality, so should load fast.) peteandles.com/whiteunicornA.mp3

Moon and Antarctica. Very good, but IMO,Good News For People Who Love Bad News was better.

I've been listening to Interpol pretty heavily the past few weeks. Even though I've had their 1st album (Turn on the Bright Lights) for almost a year, it took me getting a new car with a drastically better sound system for me to finally get into this great album. Their 2nd album (Antics) isn't as good as the 1st, but it has a few great songs on it and the rest of it is definitely growing on me more and more.

Pretentious. Like Sting. And Peter Gabriel. And Dylan fans. I'm just kidding. I like Sting. Yeah the LP "Bookends" was a great example of this. Great songs, you didn't need to over produce it and add all that gobledegook ("Voices of Old People"? What the hell was that!) >>>>> My 2 cents on Dylan because I don't think I ever weighed in on him. People talk about him as this great social/political force. Serious like. But he was a goofball too and that seems to have been forgotten. I love his early stuff, there was so much off the cuff humor and just plain silly lyrics. "Motorpsycho Nitemare" is a gas. He did serious, profound work, But I think -at times- people took him more seriously than he took himself. (What was that song with the Cassius Clay Lyric. Come on, that was written by a guy having fun, strumming his guitar and making up poop!e)

I wish both albums could be back to back on the same CD, they're both so great. Antics took me a little while to get into. Narc grabbed me first, then Public Perv, the last bit was great, and then the last song, I forget the name. That whole album is listenable but those three are my favorites. TOTBL is better. Now I'm listening to Fear of Music by the Talking Heads. What a great album. Lots of weird ass sounds and the unusual voice of Byrne. He sounds nothing like a singer! Yet it's great to listen to and freak out to. Heaven's great and so is Animals.

It sounds more cheerful at first but then you really listen and it is so dark...perfect for the last six months of my life. In fact there were months when the only thing I was listening to was Antics every night. I'm getting over that a bit, but....oh, hell I think I'll put it on now. (I have to admit, I usually skip the first song)

Simon and Garfunkel - "Bridge Over Troubled Water"
Their final CD is their best. It's also one of the best LPs of all time (IMO) which is amazing, considering with the way the two were fighting at the time.
While the songs are superb, the album is short on time,
That's because the original is missing a 12th song. The duo couldn't agree on what that final song would be. Garfunkel's choice shows up on the remastered disc (And it's not that hot actually). The song Paul wanted (Cuba Si, Nixon No) is so controversial that it keeps getting cut from concert footage and even box sets (Old Friends). I guess the concert version can be found on bootlegs, but I've never heard it,
Anyway. aside from a live version of "Bye Bye Love" (not a bad song as an extra, but I'd have rather had an original studio release) "Bridge" is near perfect which is a good way to go out.

Will you get another "Pretentious" review from sampo? Actually, the pretentious review was his own. I merely provided the word he couldn't think of. I like Simon & Garfunkel. Pretentious or no.

I guess it was just Dylan fans you were trying to personally insult. That's OK sampo. At times I find you judgmental and self-righteous but you're OK in my book kid!

Well, the Dylan fans line was just for you because I knew you'd like it. I'm glad to see that you took it so well.

Herbie Hancock - Future Shock: I think this is a seriously underrated album. Besides the well-known "Rockit," there's also the cool title track and "Autodrive," one of my personal favorites off the album. It has a sort of different sound, but it's well worth checking out.
