Hey wow cool updates! I'm really surprised after ALL of the "MST3K fans are SOO important, this is what MST3K is, we wouldn't be here without you" stuff we heard during the kickstarter campaign, that I'm not hearing anything about this from KS or anywhere really except from the pro MST3K stalkers on this forum. Since the new season was not funded with KS, I don't see why they would feel obligated to use that platform to give updates. Jonah Ray and Patton Oswalt have given updates about it on either their social media platforms or podcast appearances.

I'm going to give Who Let Servo Drive the benefit of the doubt and say they were using hyperbole with the use of the term "soul crushing." Me: They?!? I'm just one person!
Right me?
Other me: Exactly. I didn't understand what he meant either.
Me: IKR?
I didn't want to presume your gender or number of personalities.

Another quick bit of news: Jonah Ray revealed on his Twitter that they have started recording the riffs for the new season.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that Shout! might be readying a box set of the two live shows as the big fourth quarter MST3K release this year, assuming the recordings they made of the shows are of decent quality. I'm holding out hope that the new show will mark the big anniversary by having a cameo filled episode that will include Mike, Trace, Frank, and Josh in addition to all those who returned last season. It would also be nice if that comic book were to be released.

Doubt it means anything, but the official MST3K YouTube channel uploaded a clip from Fire Maidens from Outer Space. Before the Shout! acquisition, the official MST3K website used to feature some clips from unreleased episodes that were a few seconds long, but, as far as I can tell, this is the first time Shout! has showcased something they haven't released yet.

The files Rifftrax offers are in HD, so it would be more accurate to compare the price to the Blu Ray set, which I've seen for $66-$75 on Amazon with a MSRP of $99.

$47 for 14 eps and documentary on DVD? Didn't I just spend $99 for a pre-order on that? Can anyone explain this? If you're referring to the Kickstarter set, the a la carte price for the DVD was $80, Blu Ray $100. Those people got it several months earlier and the eight disc has more bonus features than the general release one, which only contains the documentary.

On the comments section of the Kickstarter page, Ivan Askwith, who helped run the campaign and was an executive producer on the new season, says that there will hopefully be some sort of announcement made about the next season in the next few weeks, saying they have to wait until they have legal clearance before they can share it. No word on the nature of the announcement. Also, they will shoot the new season in the summer.

I would have been all over this twenty or so years ago, along with a lot of the other merchandise that's been released since the Shout! acquisition. Sadly, I'm at the age and possess the cynicism that all fun purchases have to be weighed against their practical value. Otherwise, I'd be curled up in my MST3K blanket, sipping cocoa from my MST3K color changing mug, and waiting for my pizza to cook so I can get it out with my Gizmonic oven mitt.

Taking into account that these suggestions are unlikely to be heeded (not blaming, just making an observation), I would think the most likely suggestion I might make, that might be acted upon, would be to find more movies of a higher general caliber. I found too many of the Season 11 movies to be DREADFUL to get through on their own merits, and while I can't explain precisely how, there are "quality" issues that go into many older movies, like good camera work, nice scoring, good dialogue (even when the premise is ridiculous) that carry a B-movie along. Take, for example, many of the B-grade Universals and their ilk. I'm thinking of "Leech Woman," "Thing That Couldn't Die," "Deadly Mantis," even "The Undead." There remains a level of quality control that makes these movies enjoyable at some level, and too many of Season 11 movies don't seem to have it. It's the same reason I don't re-watch "Monster A-Go-Go" or "Castle of Fu Manchu" from the old series. So, for me, "Carnival Magic," "Wizards of the Lost Kingdom" or whatever it was called, and "Starcrash" were simply too difficult to sit through--the riffing would have to be incredible beyond description for me to really enjoy these eps. But that's just me. I notice that many other viewers absolutely LOVE these episodes, so there you are. Just my opinion, but I found the overall quality of movies featured in season 11 to be much higher than what was featured on the old show, with only Carnival Magic sinking to the dregs for me.

Too bad for the show? /smh This show is going to be network note'd to death. Frank Conniff himself has said "most bad movies are too bad for MST3K," so don't pretend that this is a recent sentiment from people attached to the series. Also, the movie itself is pretty violent and sexual, so it would clash against the mostly family friendly tone they had last season.

In the podcast itself, he clarifies things a bit more, saying that for every "big" one, they have to do a couple of smaller ones because of costs. The two suggestions that Jonah made that he named are Maximum Overdrive (because we're in the middle of a Stephen King revival, but the rights are too expensive) and Geteven (actually Get Even, but Shout! said it was too bad for the show).

Anybody else hyped for the trading cards? Not necessarily hyped, but certainly intrigued. Given how starved this show was for merchandise a few years ago, it's almost unbelievable how much has been released since the Shout! acquisition.
