Read somewhere he was passed over for the space program because he didn't go to college. I know astronauts need a hell of a resume, but I think this guy had his bases covered.
Rest well, sir.

I'm so, so sorry, Torgo. Losing a parent is terrible, and I'm sure it must be even worse under such circumstances. Thinking of you and yours.

He sure was good. I liked his shredding stuff fine enough, but he had an even greater sense for crafting incredible rock melodies that showed off his crazy skills while remaining easily listenable. He anchored a band that sounded so good even through a member change or two.
Sucks. Damn cancer. Another one gone too soon.
Rest well, sir.

Speaking of "old school" rock: There's a band out there called Greta Van Fleet that other people are saying is also saving rock. I tried to listen to them, but I can't sit through any of their songs all the way through. The singer sounds a lot like Robert Plant and the band like Led Zeppelin, so if anyone's into that they can check them out if they haven't heard of them already. Personally, I think the lead singer sounds a lot like a TEN YEAR OLD trying to sound like Plant. The band itself is really good as far as playing the music, but I, again personally, don't like any of the songs that I've heard so far. I can't imagine sitting through a two hour concert and listening to just that sound. It would give me a headache. That damn misophonia. It would sound like the same song for two hours. Actually, I can only tolerate only so much Zeppelin in one sitting as well, even though I like them. I prefer these guys. The Struts are a lot easier to listen to. GVF makes some decent music, but they seem to be in denial about their Zepplin influence, claiming the don't hear it (basically). Understandably, they have gotten flack for that. I mean, come on guys, Zepplin was an influence. Like there's shame in admitting it. Speaking of LZ influenced bands, Rival Sons does it at least as well as GVF. They can be a bit heavy handed, but they can cut a groove, for sure. The Struts have a bit of a lighter attitude. Vintage Trouble has a lead singer who has that charisma kind of like Spiller. Here they are on Letterman. The crowd was blown away, as were Paul and Letterman. Letterman asks them to play the show out, and if you watched a lot of Letterman back in the day, he almost never did that.

Spiller really embodies Freddie much better than (blech) Adam Lambert. Adam has a good voice, but not for Queen songs. Not only does Spiller sound like Mercury on some songs, a few of The Struts' songs actually sound like something Queen would be doing back in the day. (Check out One Night Only). The person who designed Freddie's clothes for shows also designs Luke's outfits. Luke is kind of like a blend of Freddie Mercury and Tim Curry with a hint of Mick Jagger and a slight drop of Tom Petty (just looks, I mean, at certain angles for Tom, the others are their attitudes also). One of my fave songs is Kiss This. I really like them. I read somewhere that Spiller used to practice his moves and singing by listening to music and practicing in front of a mirror. He tried to emulate Mercury, Jagger, Michael Jackson, and my favorite: late AC/DC front man Bon Scott. I'm a huge Scott fan, and hearing that this kid is a fan impresses me and only makes me like him more. I also read that older fans have stated "they make me feel young" as one of the reasons they like them. I can see that. It all just looks fun and loose. Kiss This is outstanding.

I also found these guys in the last year or two. Fun band with a fun philosophy. You can see in their videos that they draw quite a varied crowd. You see teenagers and people in their early 20s to people who are clearly in their 50s or 60s. They encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the show.
And the music rocks, gotta admit.
This is where I first heard them. After the commercial, I had to find out who did the song. Glad I did. The moment at about 29 second into the video, where Buster Douglas connects with a right uppercut to Mike Tyson just as Spiller sings "I don't fear you!" gave me chills.

For some reason I've been noticing lately cover versions of songs being used to great effect in commercials. Some commercials are movie trailers or for television shows. Others are commercials for video games. In many cases, these versions are either more stripped down and acoustic or more orchestral and electronic than the originals, but they all seem to have an impact in presenting the story or product. In any case, I really like the atmosphere these covers lend. Some examples: Dishonored 2 Trailer Gold Dust Woman Originally by Fleetwood Mac Cover by Julia Holter Cobra Kai Season 2 Trailer Cruel Summer Originally by Bananarama Cover by Kari Kimmel (Comes in at about :30 of the video) Spotlight Trailer Dear God Originally by XTC Cover by Lawless feat. Sydney Wayser (Comes in about 1:15 of the video) The Last of Us Part II Trailer True Faith Originally by New Order Cover by Unknown This last one is a cover of New Order based on an acoustic version arranged and performed by Lotte Kestner. While the video game company recorded their own version of this arrangement (performed, I'm guessing, by the voice actress in the game) but failed to creddit Kestner, and Kestner called them out on it. Still, it's a great version. Not sure why I put this post together. Just wanted to share, I guess

My brother and a friend caught their limit of bluegill and bass the other night. He fried some up tonight. A light beer batter and a dash of salt. That's it. I wasn't there but he promised me he'd do another round next time I'm over. View AttachmentThat looks so good. Edit: The fish, I mean. For some reason the picture didn't show up when I quoted your post. Pic is a bit fuzzy anyway - I didn't take it My brother has fished his whole life but rarely brings fish home to eat. He's always catch and release. A good day on the lake must have had him thinking about a Sunday night treat. It's definitely locally-sourced and fresh. They are apparently good with ice cold beer. It's 88 degrees at 10:15 p.m. here (weirdly), so the combo is probably pretty tasty.

I kinda enjoyed Cool World… Same here. Hell of a good soundtrack. I used to like animation. I really don't anymore. Not sure what happened. Either way, there has to be something out there that would make for an entertaining MST episode.

I can't believe it will justify the obnoxious social media movement to get this thing released, but I really like the director's cut of Watchmen, so I'll check it out. Gotta get HBO though. Haven't had it in over 20 years. Ugh. Maybe later.

He was a unique, funny guy. Loved him when I first saw him in This Is Spinal Tap.
I lost track of all the Rifftrax guest riffers, but he had to be among the oldest to ever do it.
Rest well, sir.

MST3K fans have been pretty lucky just how loose the IP owners have been over the last 30 years when it comes to trading and selling eps. Most fans have had decades to build up their collection, and while this sucks for those who still have eps or material they want to pick up, it's hard to argue with the decision.
They own it, period.
Trading episodes on cassette, a fun practice back in the day, died out years ago as sellers stepped in with good, high-quality bootlegs. It seems like the next phase has started. It's too bad, but had to be coming eventually.

Adam Schlesinger, co-founder of group Fountains of Wayne and writer of the song "That Thing You Do" for the movie died April 1st from complications of COVID-19. I was saddened when I heard this. Listened to them a lot in college. He was one hell of a songwriter. Pretty much anything he wrote got stuck in your head. Shine on, sir.
