I have recently come into contact with someone who says he has several KTMA episodes on tape, and that he's currently transferring many of his VHS items to DVD. I just wanted to know what was still "uncirculated" so that perhaps more stuff can get out to the fans.

I'm not sure what you mean by "uncirculated" when it pertains to the KTMA episodes.
All I know is that the first 4 episodes are non-existant K00-K03. No fan copy known to exist.
And that nobody has the last part of K15 - Superdome.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. I've now messaged the guy inquiring about those eps.

Also let the "inquirer" know that the K00-K03 eps are in Jim Mallon's collection, so they probably will never get released unless something big persuades him.

There is always a chance that someone taped K01- K03 and they might still turn up. Highly unlikely, but remotely possible. But K0 is not going to see the light of day.

Actually I think K00 is the most likely to see the day of light as it could become an extra on some DVD. Sure Jim and Rhino would have to get the movie rights but maybe they aren't that much. I really think Jim should put those tapes on the internet so he can't be sued by the distributers and isn't making a profit. Sure there is no real gain for him but there is no real loss either.

Yeah, I agree with Van Hagar on this. I'm still kinda uncertain as to what the whole deal is with the rights on the movies done on K01-K03. Are they Sandy Frank films or something? I mean, I know Fugitive Alien 2 was redone later, but, what's the legal prob with K-01 and K-02? Jeez Mallon, give us fans the goods. Not like we wouldn't love and appreciate them.

Isn't their attitude that they don't want the early shows to be out there? They forbade Comedy Central show reruns of season 1 at one point, didn't they?
I think it's the same thing, they don't want to put that early stuff out there themselves, but it's weird because so much of it IS out there, they couldn't possibly hurt themselves.

Funny thing is that mst3ktemple once reported that a guy claimed he had both Revenge of the Mysterons and Fugtive Alien 2 on tape but they couldn't get further contact with him because he had a dead email address so whether he was telling the truth or lying is up in the air. If possible I think Best Brains should try to get these episodes out to the public somehow and I don't think they should be worried about being embarrassed over the old days. Even if the first 3 episodes did suck it wouldn't change my view on the show and I think this goes for a lot of other fans too.

But what if the first few attempts at the show, the Brains were going for a more snuff film approach or something really really sick and just decided to make it comedy instead? Surely they wouldn't want to be seen as amatuer snuff film makers, now would they?

Hmmm didn't know that the Neo-Geo forums has MST3K fans too that's cool to know.

It may just be my erroneous impression, but doesn't it seem that Jim Mallon has retreated into a kind of anti-MST3K shell, and he refuses to have anything to do with it or the fans any longer?
How much could it possibly cost to re-negotioate the rights to the first four KTMAs? Surely he knows we fans would pay just about anything for them.

The problem is, he can't re-negotiate the rights because he never got them in the first place (which is illegal)! That's why we'll never see a release of KTMA eps..though I'm sorta optimistic about the pilot.
I think the idea of streaming them online is interesting. I don't know if that could even be done legally, though.
