This is why I never liked the idea of set. Rhino pulls another boner with a movie a la Amazing Colossal Man and three other films get pulled. And I'd like to believe that they'd re-package them...

Heres what I think Rhino should do: Repackage Atomic Brain, The Unearthly with Shorts vol. 2 and 3. They can make that into a new Vol. 1, because people buying DVD's generally start with vol. 1, and then release 4 of the single releases as vol. 3 while still keeping them out as single releases.

Heres what I think Rhino should do: Repackage Atomic Brain, The Unearthly with Shorts vol. 2 and 3... But, knowing Rhino as we do, they'll put a new episode on it so that the only way to get it would be to buy three episodes all over again ("The Essentials", anyone?).

I'm just sort of hoping.

It's nice to know that if I ever need to support my crack addiction I could sell these episodes on Ebay for a fortune. seriously though, this isn't good news. I just hope that they release them as individual episodes.
This also makes me concerned for Godzilla.

Well, keep in mind "Manos" was never actually "double-dipped". It just was never part of a boxset. That's why Rhino releasing Manos with SCCTM for The Essentials never bothered me.

I'm sorry but to me, if it was available for purchase before the release of "Essentials", that's a double-dip. Lots of other new-to-release episodes could have been in that set. They could have even put the Shorts 3 disc in there (instead of making us pay full retail in a "special offer" to get it). And if Rhino had double-dipped an episode that didn't sell as well as the others that would have been one thing...but Manos? I didn't even own Manos at the time that "Essentials" came out and I still think it was a dirty trick.

Likely, but it's not like it's an uncommon thing. Studios do it all the time with movie releases, releasing a basic edition and then, somewhere down the line, releasing a deluxe edition... and maybe even a special deluxe edition after that. But I'm sure you know that quite well. Screwing the DVD consumer - it's not just for Lucas anymore.

Actually Retromedia doesn't own the AIP dubs of the Gamera movies. They have released them because they are assumed to be public domain. The movies themselves certainly are not public domain. I don't know if AIP renewed their dubs (probably not,) if they did Sony would have the rights via MGM. Giant Spider Invasion is a can of worms all it's own with the video rights going to either Retromedia or BCI, depending on who you believe. Definitely not public domain though. Retromedia has released a lot of public domain titles though. I was wondering when the Crown catalog switching to BCI would impact the MST3K world.

I ordered Vol.1 last Sunday, so I'll be expecting it soon. For the longest time I wondered why nobody had created Season sets for MST3K. I guess I know now, endless rights issues. Over the summer I got "The Essentials" with the Shorts Volume 3 and I had never watched or owned "Manos", so it was an easy call for that one.

I ordered a set of Volume one even though i have one (My disc of Creeping Terror took a beating when i dropped it) and it shipped today so i'm guessing the products that are still out there as of right now are still able to be purchased.

Why are people still so obsessed with Sandy Frank?
Have you noticed that we haven't had any Robert L. Lippert movies? Or Bert I. Gordon (except that one abortive attempt on VHS)? And only one "second tier" Ed Wood film?
Jeez, doesn't Warners own ANY of this stuff?

Holy Cwap! I feel sorry for the people who don't have these sets! >>Our source also says they are working on what to do about the two other movies on Volume 3, "The Unearthly" and "The Atomic Brain"<< Hopefully not put them on the next set! Dont feel too bad. Alot of us have the broadcast versions. So its not like the eps are gone for good. They're still out there, just have to know where to get 'em.
