So, let me get this straight because the convo and quoting is confusing me.
Mike, (whomever voice Dis) and whomever the guest Riffers are are the only writers for the RTs, right?

OK I got to sit down and watch this last night. A good solid 5. Like many of you I was expecting a little more. I've been noticing there are a lot more in jokes for the regular Rifftrax buyers. They seem to be referencing previous Rifftrax movies a lot more than they used to in their material. It made watching this much, much more bearable. I still had trouble watching the entire Cirque de Solei segment, but the Elton John riff was a good one. A lot of riffs were pretty obscure. If you were not familiar with the Honeymooners TV series from the 50's were Art Carney became famous playing off Jackie Gleason, a lot of the Riffs concerning him would not have made much sense or been very funny. I'm afraid you needed to be a real movie and TV historian to get a lot of this material. I did and laughed quite a bit during this trax.

Help an ignoramus... Every time I try to play the 'downloaded' video, I get an error message I don't wanna even think about trying to watch this with commentary. Any ideas/helps?

I'm afraid you needed to be a real movie and TV historian to get a lot of this material. I think they were real hit-or-miss on this. And that's what bothered me. They did such a nice job on historical riffs for Diahann Carroll and Art Carney, but completely whiffed on Harvey Korman and Bea Arthur. They also did a great job on riffing the 1978-ness of the commercials, but stuck with contemporary riffs on the show itself.

You should install VLC, a free universal media player. I'm not sure that quicktime can play the file: www.videolan.org/vlc/

Sorry, just seemed like less based on when MST had six writers or ten writers. The quality goes up and down with the amount of writer's I noticed. (not to say I think it's of bad quality) Plus the amount of variety or quantity of pop culture riffs also is a good teller. Guess I was wrong. Well we've had some riffs with as many as eight writers, but I think it would be a challenge to identify which ones had more and which have had fewer.

I guess so, it just seemed about to be the same quality and mode as the Film Crew's DVD with three credited writers. (Did they have more?) It's hard to pick out individual episodes/commentaries, but when you go through the ups and downs of MST, you can see a trend with the amount of writers.

Maybe it's the guy who does Disembaudio that writes all the not funny jokes... no offense... but I simply can't sit through 2 hours of celebrity references. It makes me ill.

Which you've made abundantly clear in one thread after another. I don't mean to be mean, and I apologize if this offends. But whats the point of coming onto this forum and complaining over again about the same thing. We get it, you don't like Rifftrax, you don't like the reference material. Is it, perhaps time to move on?

We actually do employ a writer whose sole purpose is to contribute not funny jokes. Come to think of it, it is a terrible strategy. In fact, it goes against our entire stated purpose of making people laugh. Hopesfall, thru your attempt at snark, you may have saved RiffTrax!

I was going to skip this Rifftrax because The Star Wars Holiday Special sounds so creepy, and it seems like folks here weren't overly impressed with it, but then I saw that 72% of the votes at the Rifftrax Forum give it 10 stars out of 10, which makes it (I think) one of the highest ranked of them all. Maybe I'll gird my loins and give it a shot.
