Needless to say, the Hurricanes HAVE to win both games coming up in Raleigh. To have a "3" in the Penguins' win column after these two games will mean certain doom for us, I do believe.
As long as Malkin and (to a lesser extent) Crosby continue as they're doing, that is.

Getting ready to head out to Raleigh for Game Three. I intend to enjoy it and, other than maybe 8-0 Canes, I hope the game is close. At the halfway point of this season Carolina was not in the playoff picture. To make it into the final four is a great achievement. I intend to cheer my ass off. And that will take a lot of cheering.

Did you see that hit Kronwall put on Havlat last night? Let's see...no possession of the puck, leaving your feet, forearm to the head. Where's Claude Lemieux when you need him?
You stay classy, Detroit.

Just back from the game. Enjoyed everything about it but the result and a few obnoxious Pens fans. Pens fans made up 10-15% of the crowd. Great seats. I was in a perfect spot to appreciate Malkin and Crosby's great talents. In person you can really see that their skill level is above the other players that were on the ice. Malkin moves so well without the puck to put himself in position to score. Crosby's goal at the end of the first showed amazing hand eye coordination. I had a perfect view of that one. Two goals against in the last minute of the 1st period proved too much for the Canes to overcome but it didn't feel like a rout. As a matter of fact, our section stood for a good part of the game. Short of a near impossible comeback, the Canes are toast. They certainly turned their season around and I'm pleased with how it turned out. Here are a couple pics from my crappy cell phone. Why can't I remember to bring my camera? Why??

Awesome seats! I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the outcome for you. It is a great time to be a Pens fan. Like the Canes, we were out of playoff contention at the midway point, and to be in this position, playing this well, it's like Christmas, but much better.
I'm really glad you got to witness first hand Crosby/Malkin in playoff mode. And I'm glad you can appreciate it as a fan of the opposite team!
everyone up here is crying 'sweep sweep' but I think the Cardiac Canes are going to at least pull out a win or two before it's over.

Congrats Pens. You completely destroyed my Canes. Good luck in the finals.

PENGUINS, I APOLOGIZE.
I was completely wrong about the roster this year. I thought they gave away too much talent and would take a step backwards. Since they're back in the finals, it's obvious I misjudged them. I guess a lot of their early-season dysfunction had to do with Thierren after all.
I'm still not sure Crosby deserves the hype he gets, but the Pens deserve their due. Well done.

You stay classy, Detroit. Obvious trolling moment there Mr. A, there was no forearm-to-the-head (he pushed against his chest) or leaving-the-feet (his skates came off the ice after the hit due to momentum, he didn't jump into Havlat) You want to say it wasn't legal because Havlat was a split-second from gaining possession, fine, and that's why he got the five-minute interference misconduct, but let's go easy on the Claude comparisons.

Sorry, Mitch. You know I like you, and I like ripping on the Wings just for good fun, but you sound like a total homer on this one.
If his skates leave the ice due to the momentum of his hit, that's the point. If you can't stay on the ice during your check, it's not a clean hit. And look at the 1:00 mark. You can clearly see Kronwall extending his arm through the hit, where it makes contact with Havlat's face. Look closely-- back and to the left. Back...and to the left.
But I suppose Kronwall is another upstanding member of society keeping the Wings' tradition of clean living and fair play alive. Dino Ciccarelli and Darren McCarty would be proud. (Okay, that was trolling, but...God, I hate the Red Wings)

Well, you won't catch me defending Dino, but I'm going to disagree with your homer assessment. I'm not even really defending the hit--I thought it should have been penalized and it was. I don't, however, think it was dirty and I don't think the hit puts Kronwall in the class of Lemieux. Lemieux hits from behind, leads with his elbows, and puts people in the hospital for weeks at a time.
Dirty play dusgusts me regardless of laundry. When the Wings signed Bertuzzi, I was near sick about it.

Wings are taking it to the Pens. Looks like déjà vu all over again.

Three things the sports world does not need:
1) Another Yankees world championship 2) Duke in any more Final Fours 3) Another Red Wings Stanley Cup
Please, make it stop. For the benefit of fans everywhere.
Oh, one more question: Throwing octopi on the ice...worst fan tradition or worst fan tradition ever?

The Pens get discouraged too easily by the Wings. And only the Wings. When bounces don't go their way, they get frustrated and then play sloppy. That's what's happened two games now. They're playing well, sometimes better than the Wings, the Wings get a lucky bounce or something, and then it's all downhill.
Sigh.
