Hey, just wanted to say it's cool to see so many of you had a nice time.
Can someone explain the fake commercials to me? Was it like something filmed or still photos?

A few more thoughts: * Apparently y'all need to move to the Beautiful Pacific Northwest, it seems Mrs. Phyllis and I were the only ones without glitches? * I don't mind others joining the Rifftrax crew on stage, but they need to get someone more talented than Coulton. Lordee I can't stand that guy. * I wouldn't want the little boxes on the side throughout. I found them a bit distracting as I'd look at them, then miss what they were riffing on (more during the short. Plan 9 I was familiar enough with it that I could dart back and forth). They were fine here and there but I wouldn't them on all through the show. * As mentioned by someone else, I too had an annoying wannabe riffer behind me. I turned around and told him the guys were doing just fine without his help, thank you. That shut him up. If Rifftrax does this again they need to address that before the show. People, you are not funny, so please, SHUT THE &^%$#@ UP and let the pros do their work. * And yes, if possible release this on DVD - For the new riffs alone I'd buy it. As a keepsake of the evening, most definitely. Personal opinion: you're cranky. Thanks, what a lovely thing to say to me.

^My head still feels wonky after this sleeping pill I took last night after the show – so I might be coming off cranky and be too fuzzy brained to know… I’m only truly cranky about bad wannabe riffers who talk over the good pro riffers jokes (I paid my hard earned money to listen to Mike, Bill & Kevin riff - Not loudmouthed Johnny Dickweed in back row). The rest of the post was only opinions, not crank. and please God, let the pill wear off already, my head feels like it's stuffed with stale socks.Hey, just wanted to say it's cool to see so many of you had a nice time. Can someone explain the fake commercials to me? Was it like something filmed or still photos? It was something Kyanka (sp?) put together. They were introduced as words from our (not so great) sponsors. The first was the best, it was grain show add, done in the style of the monster truck commercials. They were filmed, like commercial spots.

The rest of the post was only opinions, not crank. I figured you were just bitter over not picking up any Riff Chicks. I don't have a clue who that host woman is, but she gave off the air of "cheesy, attractive host who knows nothing about comedy." Veronica Belmont - apparently she hosts various technology and gaming shows, and has played Rock Band live with Jonathan Coulton. Fine, she knows technology and gaming. But she's not funny, or wasn't in this, and she gave the opening of the show an earnest cheesiness that seemed false and inappropriate. I agree with you here - a pretty face alone does not a good host make. I really think they could have pulled any cute girl off the street outside the theater, handed the script to her about 20 minutes before the show with a note saying: "Here - read this on stage," and achieved the same thing. It didn't ruin a thing, mind you, but it was still noticeable, and, I would think, easily avoidable!

I can't believe the way you folks are ragging on Veronica Belmont, don't really know Jonathan Coulton so I won't try to stick up for him. I'm familiar with her from her appearances on Cranky Geeks, DL.TV, etc., but most notable for me were her appearance on the C|Net TiVo Casts. This young woman dared to suffer the fan boi slings and arrows hosting a "Prizefight" between the XBOX 360 and the PS3! Definitely not for the faint-hearted. Is there an "eye candy" element to her? Yeah, but she's not shallow and does a really fine job representing women in the technology field. And wasn't there a time her when a celebs appreciation of MST3K, and now the off-shoot projects, guaranteed entry in the club? If I had been fortunate enough to make the Riff Trax event, Veronica's presence would have thrilled me to no end.

In retrospect, I have one complaint about the night: the three boxes on the left hand side of the screen showing Mike, Kevin and Bill? They should've been on the right side. They kept looking off to the left (after all, that's where the screen was in relation to them) so there wasn't a direct continuity between the direction they were looking in and the movie as I was viewing it.
Not that that's a major thing that made me enjoy the show less. Just a little formatting thing that, if they do this again, I hope they switch. (And it's not like I'll be angry if they don't. At least, I think I won't be angry.)

Afgncaap5, I thought the exact same thing. It was sort of odd when they reacted to something in the movie they looked to their right, which to us was away from the screen. That was really obvious when Kevin was doing the great bit about the police chief waving his gun around firing off random shots.

Can anyone remember if the second Lowtax commercial was for "BerryWatch" or "BerryAlert" or something similar? I updated my website to include the show, but I couldn't remember what it was called.

Never mind. It's Berry Watch. By the way I found both of the Rich Kyanka ads on Youtube for any one that might want to take another look.

I had a good time, though I was disappointed to see only 30 people in the audience. Maybe Vegas just isn't MSTie country. I guess I didn't need to get my ticket in advance after all.
Anyway, while I could've done without the musical and commercial interludes (they weren't bad, I just wanted the riffing), the short and the movie were great. This was my first time watching "Plan 9" in its entirety, and while Ed Wood's incompetence is in its full glory, it's nowhere near the worst ever made, as we MSTies should know. Of course Mike, Kevin and Bill were great, and I'm happy to see them still strong after so many years.
My favorite: Mike's lengthy soliloquy as Tor Johnson leading into "TIME FOR GO TO BED!"

If I had been fortunate enough to make the Riff Trax event, Veronica's presence would have thrilled me to no end. From the reactions on this board, it seems that Veronica's fan base doesn't have enough crossover with the MST / RiffTrax fan base. She didn't seem like she really knew what she was doing there either. I really think they could have pulled any cute girl off the street outside the theater, handed the script to her about 20 minutes before the show with a note saying: "Here - read this on stage," and achieved the same thing. Yeah. Like, say, Bridget! In retrospect, I have one complaint about the night: the three boxes on the left hand side of the screen showing Mike, Kevin and Bill? They should've been on the right side. Yeah. Like, say, Bridget! Ha ha, I was gonna suggest her also! Spooky. ;D To address my earlier statements, I wasn't at all doubting Miss Belmont's past achievements (didn't mean to come across that way) - simply that she seemed to many of us to be very unprepared for THIS particular showcase. Thereby raising our questions as to why. No big deal, either way. Didn't ruin a thing!

I figured you were just bitter over not picking up any Riff Chicks. Oh yeah, that made me act like colicky baby too. As for Veronica, I agree - it's just a discussion and no one said she was terrible in general or in her other endeavors. They just didn't dig her work on this. But I liked her -as I stated before- because I subscribe to the Fernando Lamas school of thought... "It is better to look good than to... uh, read your script naturally"or something like that.

Oh I have a question for those of you who downloaded and watched your freebies... Flying Stewardsessesesess - it seems their were differences between the live and studio version..
I'm working on my review of the short and mentioned these two...
"Missing was a line about Detroit (can't recall wording of the joke), another about Stewardesses who literally flew on their own "
When the guy was reading the paper with the Stewardess, did they make that Katzenjammer Kids joke? Man I can't remember but I thought they said something different there.
Nor do I remember the line about the Napkin being a part of the 4 course meal, being in the live version.
Anyone else with a better memory who can help me out with this?
