In the new update Joel said he hopes to announce the new head writer soon, and made it sound like it will be yet another famous person. Or maybe someone Msties are already familiar with, either way it's nice to hear more news flow on the revival front.

Still no news on whether or not we're getting those KTMAs he hinted at, I really hope we are.

Still no news on whether or not we're getting those KTMAs he hinted at, I really hope we are. I really want to believe it, but it's starting to look like it's not going to happen. I would have thought they would have said something about them by the end of the Kickstarter, but that is long over. Now that little hint they gave us is just drying up and wasting away.

Still no news on whether or not we're getting those KTMAs he hinted at, I really hope we are. The Kickstarter is over, so we're not getting anything beyond what was specifically stated during the KS. The thing to probably start hoping for now is that Shout is putting together a set or, as many have mentioned, starts putting them on as bonuses to the normal sets.

In the most recent Mstiecast podcast, Jordan Fields of Shout Factory said they haven't been able to find the episodes yet. Joel said something similar on Twitter on Facebook. mstiecast.com/In an interview on mst3kinfo.com from a few years back, Jim Mallon confirmed that he had the tapes of the first three episodes.

Hmm. That might not be a good sign. You would think there would be some order to the 'assets' that Jim Mallon signed over to them. Did they give anymore details?

Ii didn't get the impression it was a bad sign, just that there was a lot of stuff being sent from BBI to Shout that needed to be sorted through.

Really, why would they put any energy into releasing KTMA when they are making a new season of the show, and all the work that goes along with it.
Imagine you just released a new movie/book/album, and your fans are asking you about old footage/stories/demos you made in college. You might want to strangle them for asking, or slap them for not caring about your new work.

They're likely going to have someone cataloging and digitizing anything they get from BBI anyway, so it's probably not a big deal. Assuming they can find them.
Plus, in this case Joel was the old college friend who said "Remember those old party videos? Maybe I'll dig them up."

This is probably really nerdy, but there's a technical aspect I've been wondering about for the new MST3K: Will it still have that cheap, shot-on-video look?
The Kickstarter videos look like they were shot at 24 frames per second, the same frame rate as film, but the original show was shot on video at 60i which gave it a relative appearance of 60fps. While most streaming videos can't really do actual 60fps (though Youtube recently began allowing 60fps video) they could still do 30fps which would give it that smoother "high-motion" video look, and that frame rate's more widely supported. I'm really hoping they'll at least shoot at 30fps. 24fps may be a popular standard frame rate for film and video, but I fear that if they shot at 24fps, it might look a little too "professional" and the signature cheap look of the show might be lost somewhat.
Also I'm not sure it would happen, but for that extra 14th episode, what if they riffed on an old 3D film? Not sure how much more expensive it would be, but I think it would be really fun to have an episode where you get to put on those red-and-blue anaglyph glasses and see them riff a cheesy 3D movie. Maybe they could even shoot the host segments in 3D and throw stuff at the camera!

A 3D episode would be awesome! I remember Elvira doing one back in the day, including her host segments.

Don't know if I'm eager to click on a link for something called Dr. Tongue. Though goodness knows there've been horror hosts with odd names before.

Dr. Tongue was John Candy's horror movie host character on SCTV. I could have sworn there was a reference to him during the Joel years.
