Just be sure you also consider how the kid might feel about the name in 10, 15, 20 years. They are the ones who have to live with it after all.

In this GIF-laden world we live in, I really feel like you missed a chance at a very obvious MST3K reference here.

I had known of the show's existence since I was a kid, but never actually sat down and watched it until my early 20s (circa 2006-07) when we'd have nights full of drinking, video games and movies at a friend's house darn near every night of the week. More often than not, the "movies" we'd watch would be an MST3K from one of the Rhino sets.
First eps I saw were Time Chasers and Space Mutiny.

If it was a race, it would be Mike breaking the tape just ahead of Joel, Jonah would be lying on the track somewhere behind doing his best Mary Decker impression. So who's Zola Budd then?

Who was Mr. Waverly in Three's Company? Don't remember that character. That's because he wasn't in Three's Company, but the Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Seeing bumps from early 2004 makes me wistful. I was a senior in HS then. I just turned 33.
Time flies...

Maybe he just got tired of reading Frank's raving and ranting? I like Frank, but dude needs to just take some deep breaths every once in awhile.

I can see not liking them, but to hate The Skeleton Crew that much...

I wonder if MST3K is more likely to be an every-now-and-again thing for Netflix, and not necessarily something that has consistent seasons.

Can't say shorter eps bother me either. Often it was down to the awfulness of the movie, but there were quite a few original eps that suffered from pacing issues. That, and my ADD.

Quite the admonishment from Joel in this last update. I fully understand his frustration from the breech of trust from the backers (one or multiple?), but I'm not surprised at all given the over-sharing culture of the internet. Asking someone on the internet not to do something is like asking a dog not to chew the furniture. Same here...but then you think, this is a show that encouraged you to "keep circulating the tapes." Wish in one hand, you know what in the other...there's just no way everything would be kept under backer lock-and-key. That's today's culture (not just internet) for you.

Too much time has passed for it to retain a lot of the charm of the original.
Expect it to be different, because it will be.

I'm pretty sure the Professor taught Grandma Daughter "everything she knew"...so he was the mentor of one of the protagonists. There's verbiage from Captain Sting about "checking to see if your friend is on the flight" so it sounds like he was coming for a visit. Of course, this just raises the question of where he was visiting from. The Southern Sun is a generation ship, meant to colonize some specific planet. I can buy the Ballarians and Pirates being aliens, but Spooner was implicitly human. So... what? They're colonizing distant worlds when there are already habitable worlds that people can visit to and fro? If so, why is the Space Mutiny such a big deal? Clearly there's somewhere they could just leave to without... I'm overthinking Space Mutiny, aren't I? You should really just relax...

Now, maybe BBI cut a scene explaining this, but here's one from "Space Mutiny": when Slab Bulkhead's ship crashes, a big deal was briefly made over how Prof. Spooner was killed. Um, who was this guy? Why was he so important? And why was he forgotten about ten minutes later? I'm pretty sure the Professor taught Grandma Daughter "everything she knew"...so he was the mentor of one of the protagonists. There's verbiage from Captain Sting about "checking to see if your friend is on the flight" so it sounds like he was coming for a visit.
