This is the annual correspondents' dinner. Every year, they have a satirist of some kind do this. Colbert didn't do anything unusual. Well, if that's true, which I'm sure it is, I've put my foot in my mouth a bit, but I think in a way that supports my point which is: my belief in the existence of free speech in America has been rejuvenated. This happens every year and Thank God we live in a country that still has free speech! You say it wasn't unsual. I say, how often do you see Bush listen to 20 minutes of criticizism? I think once a year is unusual. To paraphrase Red Dwarf's Rimmer "If I ate roast beef 12 times in my lifetime would you say I'm always eating Roast beef. No of course not you'd say it was a rare occurance." JG

The Liberal media are saying it was the funniest thing to happen in politics since Dan Quayle misspelled Tomato and the conservatives are saying it was inappropriate and unfunny.
Most Major news stations ignored it. But it's spreading like wildfire on the internet.
Here's the facts (Some might be wrong, I've just guessing). AP sponsors a dinner for the White House press every year and the President and the first lady and everybody who's everybody in the republican party showed up this year including conservative judges and generals.
Stephen Colbert gets up and basically does his show for twenty minutes. For twenty minutes he goes off on Bush and get this the Crowd loves it. Bush just sits there and takes it, because what else can he really do? It's just jokes. I especially wonder if this is the first time he's heard jokes like this because it's well known he doesn't read papers or watch political shows.
No matter what your political leanings I think this is a reminder of what makes this country great. A country where someone can criticize the President's policies to his face and still have the President shake his hand afterwards.
Watching this has made me proud to be an American again, Something I have not felt in 2 or 3 years.
What did everyone else think?

I can't believe I never saw this thread. DVDs are my main addiction in life. a few no one's mentioned
Mission Impossible (60s)- I hear this is coming out around the time MI III comes out on video.
The Persuaders (60s)
MJ mentioned Bob!, Bob Newhart's sitcom in the 90's but I don't know if anyone mentioned Newhart.
George Carlin's sitcom. I forget the name.
Herman's Head- I remember this as being brillant. I could have rosy colored glasses on this one.
Visionaries Cartoon- only out in Europe.
Galaxy High Cartoon- This is coming out over the Summer!
The Tick Cartoon- Coming out over the Summer (I know a million people mentioned it
Strange Luck- DB Sweeny's classic one season x-files lead in.
Spy Games- Cheesy Christopher Lloyd Show that only ran a few episodes
7 Days- cheesy UPN action show
Time Trax- Cheesy syndicated action show
Ned and Stacy-Second Season
Working- Fred Savage office sitcom
Fired Up- ultra cheesy sitcom
British- whose Line is it anyway?- I'm seconding, someone else mentioned it
Out of Order- Showtime mini
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman- someone else mentioned it
Gullivers travels Cartoon. Early 90s. Can't find out anything about this anywhere.

I think that much like the end of the second season mindf$ck with Penny and the listening station in the Arctic, which is still very mysterious at the end of the Third season, the whole flashforward thing was a bit of a teaser and won't be seen again for at least most of season 4. But I could be wrong.
I think Mr. A is right that it isn't going to be an easy fix ie no one is getting off the island in the first episode of next season.
I don't know what's happening but the 3 things I'm waiting for are, what happened to Nadia, Sayid girlfriend whom he claimed was dead way back in season 1? and is there truth to the rumor that Kate's husband (the guy from Firefly) was filmed on the Hydra set; Implying that he'll somehow be joining the cast. And what ever happened to the Other that interrogated Jack that one time?

Doesn't anyone else listen to Polka?
Seriously though, the problem I'm running into is that there are two okay stations in my area, not my "buffalo shot" you sickos, I mean the Hudson Valley. There is a classic rock station and a new rock alternative station. The New Rock station plays a lot of crap like nickelback but sometimes I can catch something I like such as Nirvana. In theory the classic rock station plays 70's rock, for instance, at 7:30 pm they have the Zep set, 3 in a row by Led Zep. the problem is that they are starting to play 90s music like soundgarden and it is getting to the point where the station's formats are interchangable and "that ain't right" to quote Chris Rock.

I can't read any news stories about Katrina without thinking of that awful moive. Does that make me a bad person? I mean now the mayor is threatning to force people out of New Orleans. At least in the movie the government offered them land in Utah when they left "Da Bronx"
Anyone else make this conection?

Yeah, I read all the Timothy Zahn books, but I haven't read the Boba Fett books or I, Jedi. The short stories I read long ago, I like the meatier stories now. I'm almost finished with the New Jedi Order series, which is about twenty books long. There's an extra-galactic invasion by these crazy fanatical aliens and they kick the sh*t out of everyone, it's neat. They are generally well-written, too, which is a relief because sometimes Star Wars books can seem to be written for ten year olds, go figure. You really have to read "I Jedi" I'd say that and the Zahn books are like required Star Wars reading. John

I read Star Wars books. They're pracitcally the only thing I've read in several months. I've read probably about forty of them so far. I used to read those. Did you read the ones by Zahn? or the Boba Fett ones? and also all the short story ones are good the tales of Jabba the hutt and so on. But my favorite was "I Jedi" because it explained exactly what powers jedi have and how they work.

This is a thread idea that just came to me. For this, I want you all to take note of things that you do at random times that are perfectly normal to you but may be odd to others. I'll start with this example: It's 10:30 at night, on a Monday, and I'm sitting in bed, typing this thread, in between reading Amazing Spiderman #'s 136 and 137. Now, this might not seem odd until you realize that these two comics are from September and October of freakin' 1974! See, what's odd about that is that I'm sitting here reading 31 year old comics. NEXT! Servo Is that the death of Gwen Stacy? Or is that post Gwen?

Can I just use this opportunity to say that the movie the Black Hole freaked me out so much as a child that I was afraid to watch it again until like 4 years ago, but there really is nothing particularly scary about the movie itself. It was all just my imagination.
JG
Eric: And can I use this opportunity to say this is probably going to be my last time on television? John: No I'm sorry there's no time for that
