I love commentaries but most people don't, we are a rare breed. The Director of Zero Effect was so convinced that no one listens to commentaries that to this day if you say a secret word or something that he mentioned on the commentary he'll give you 5 bucks.

Look at it this way. If these remakes suck, they will introduce a new generation to the classic versions by default and if by some huge chance the remakes are good (same odds as all of us winning the lottery the same day) there really isn't anything to complain about cause we'll have enjoyed watching them.

BTW I actually did a sort of MST on It's a Wonderful Life. I took scenes from the movie and arranged and edited them so that the movie starts really happy, gets gradually worse, and ends with George jumping off the bridge. Also included are scenes from Rudolph the RNR and The Ewok Adventure. My friends and I provided improvised voice over for the characters. End result: It's a Terrible Life. Really quite juvenile, but fun. I think I'll bust it out on my family when I visit. hmmm anyway we can see that, it sounds funny. JG

Anyone else remember a moment where it was uncomfortable to be watching TV or a movie with kids or parents or grandparents.
I remember when I was in like junior high I saw "there's something about Mary" with both my parents and my dad told me for like a week that "What that guy did before a date is not a good idea"
Then I watched that Seinfeld episode "The Junior Mint" with my dad and if you'll recall Jerry can't recall his girlfriends name and his only clue is that it rhymns with a female body part. To this day I don't know if my dad got the joke, but a started laughing like crazy and then pretended not to know the answer.
Then just last night I was watching tv with my mom and the ad for ky warming liquid came on. You know the one where the guy and girl smile at each other, she reads how it "warms on contact" and then says "That'll work." God! They might as well use the fake slogan going around the internet "KY jelly, we can't think of anything else to do with it either."
Anyway, maybe other people don't get uncomfortable about this sort of thing. It's not that I'm sexually repressed or a prude, it's just that I don't want to talk to my parents about that sort of thing.
Anyone else got one?

What really made the film too was all the quirky supporting players. His friend Pedro was kind of underdevolped, but I heard the original short that predates the movie focused on him more. Anyone hear about this?
Anyway getting back, the other charcters like Uncle Rico, Dina, and Napoleon's brother, and Grandma were all interesting characters in their own right.
I'm not surprised that this had such universal appeal age wise. They managed to keep it very timeless. I spend the movie trying to figure out what year it was supposed to be. If not for the internet playing into the brother's plotline I was sure it was the 80's. But I guess the joke was that this was a really backwards town.

Anyone else see it? I thought it was really funny and very quotable. I think if MST was still around we'd start seeing references to this?
What did you think?

I hate you people in Britian because you can buy the fifth season of Red Dwarf right now, but I have to wait until February. At least at that point Season five and six with be released together. That kind of makes it okay.

Does it count if you want Farscape on DVD for under $150? I hear that man. You gotta buy 4 expensive series. I started buying when the show first came out on dvd and they sold individual episodes. Back then there were always commentary tracks, which by the way are largely brillant. Anyway that lasted for 3 dvds then they started not having extras and then after the first season I think they switched companies or something.

Hey, Ash2, I live in Seattle and was working for Borders at the time. Mark and Poe came by as part of a tour to promote the album and book. Hearing her sing Hey Pretty while Mark (who is a hottie and a half) read a very-ahem, stimulating passage was beyond cool. When Poe signed my poster, I mentioned that I sympathized with her wanting to change her name from Annie (she thought it was too ordinary) since I too have one of those every-third-girl-in-the-class overused names. She laughed and signed it " To J*****-- not boring: a classic!" Still have that poster on my wall, lemme tell ya. mrsphyllistorgo He asked me, he asked me! You know that Mark reading the passage to the music of Hey Pretty is the last track on her Haunted cd. They put that on there in the second generation copies. What did she sign? I feel like Seinfeld not knowing what Dolorous rhymed with. PM me if you have to. John
