Cameo and pre-riffing aside, this episode was incredibly strong. Funnier than a lot of the classic episodes.

I thought the "liquid technology" bubbles during the mads opening segment was an interesting (albeit obvious) way to allow them not to have to do the entire scene in one take. I thought it was distracting, and not really in the spirit of the show. Agreed. I was trying not to be too negative, haha. I guess they have to cut corners somewhere to maintain quality when they're on a limited schedule for shooting.

So what was the deal with the cameo host segment? 6 million bucks and they couldn't rebuild the Widowmaker? I guess it would have only been for a single scene. Bobo's costume also looked pretty strange (mostly his face). And it seemed weird that nothing was explained in terms of why they're all together again. I also wonder why they weren't on set.
Overall this felt strange and forced.

Yeah, it's interesting to see how many light years ahead Kevin was at giving Servo life than the three Jim Henson puppeteers are now.
I think Joel said in a Q&A that even Kevin took a few years to get good - but I don't know how the new puppeteers are going to get better when they film for a single week every year.
The Wayne's World comment is apt for the puppeteering at least. It definitely feels off and a little lifeless. Probably only us hardcore fans would notice though.

Wait, what!? Who was it? It looked just like her... from the tiny window on my computer screen. Other folks have thought the same. She looks similar and her outfit is similarly colored.

I hope a future episode explains Pearl's presence. I found it odd that the big return episode featured one returning cast member in character, and they relegated her to the background. I figure the way they filmed Mary Jo's scenes, they did the intro and all the outros and then spent time on a few episodes where she features, so I'm probably complaining about nothing. But until we see that episode where she features, it did seem really odd to have her not mentioned or speaking. That wasn't Pearl.

Just finished the first episode and it's actually... good. They did it!
I could nitpick (as I'm sure thousands of people will today), but overall they nailed it.
My only real complaint is that some of the jokes fire off before I have time to register what's on the screen. This is a minor complaint though.
There are a thousand ways this could have gone terribly wrong, but they somehow beat the odds. It's great!

It's cool to see it all laid out like this. Nice work.
Next time someone talks to one of the guys on an AMA or Twitter or whatever, they should ask how the wardrobes were selected.

We've got update sign! The BIG NEWS: The live stream of Reptilicus (Joel confirms it's the first episode in the update) will take place on Thrusday April 6th, with a 24 hour streaming window for the episode on Saturday April 8th! (Or Sunday April 9th, Joel seems to have his day and date confused) The live stream doesn't happen Thursday the 6th, it happens either Saturday or Sunday (depending on Joel's typo). Thursday is just when he sends our account info. Joel "On THURSDAY, APRIL 6th, all backers invited to the livestream screening will receive a new VHX code through BackerKit, along with detailed instructions for redeeming the code. This will give you some extra time to make sure your VHX account is working. Then, on SUNDAY, APRIL 8th, at 12:01 am ET, your VHX account will be updated with streaming access to EXPERIMENT 1101, which will let you stream the new pilot episode as much as you'd like for 24 hours, until 11:59 pm ET."

Also, watched the interview with the Track of the Moon Beast actress. Seems like a pretty nice person, and she provided some good info about the creation of the movie and her career (of sorts). She seemed happy that MST3K did the movie and enjoyed the episode. Yeah, this interview was really interesting. She said that she cried the first time she saw it in the 80's because of how bad it was, but seeing the MSTed version "made all the tears and embarrassment worth it" due to how funny it was.

My box says copyright "Satellite of Love LLC" on the bottom. Is this a thing we've known about? I assume it was created by Shout to own the rights to MST3K. Interesting that they did it this way. Maybe this is common, I don't know.
It's registered in California as of 02/17/2016 to Robert Emmer, Richard Foos and Garson Foos (founders of Shout).

According to Ivan, they're still negotiating with Netflix but it seems like the backer downloads will arrive on April 13th, with the livestream premier a week before the Netflix release. They're apparently worried about the eps making their way to torrent sites and hurting the ratings/chances for more seasons. Reasonable. Though this was a "for-the-backers digital download" release long before Netflix was involved. Interesting that we have to wait longer so as to appease any concerns that the show could do poorly on Netflix if the backers get their copies too early. That said, I doubt many backers will complain too much if it makes additional seasons more likely.
