So they underbudgeted the actual cost to be running the campaign on crowdfunder with nothing but illogical hope that fans would pay ALL the fees for them? They gave up Kickstarter's much stronger userbase/social media presence/etc on sheer hope that the fans would deliver the savings? That is so absurdly dumb that I am now convinced kickstarter told them they weren't welcome back until they fulfilled the all the deliverables of the previous one. It was also only a 5% fee compared to kickstarters 8%. I also have had the thought that they didn't use kickstarter because ks wasn't interested in partnering/promoting the new campaign because they reviewed it and could tell it was a sh|t show and declined.

can someone remind me how they didn't have to pay the processing fees on the platform they used? If you're talking about the crowedfundr showrunner thing, I didn't back, but the descriptions said that it would let the pledger cover it as an extra bonus -- like I'm assuming if you made a $100 pledge, during 'checkout' it would say, would you like to cover the 5% fee and pledge $105?

It's funny, I never heard any of this stuff about the gizmoplex never working. I would have one some bets there. I remember questioning the validity of the gizmoplex stuff multiple times and lots of people blowing me off. Here I'll go look it up... ...found it: A streaming service is a service that must be maintained. According to the breakdown I've seen, Joel has around $60K set aside for building the Gizmoplex and like $6000 (HA) for creating mobile aps. But here's the thing -- you have to pay to keep the service running. It has to be up and streaming. There's storage, bandwidth, IT support. Now, let me tell you something else I know-- My wife works as a Project Controller for a government contractor. She has some projects where they have services up and running and use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to back them. And, let me point out that when you get AWS, you're not getting a software solution, you're just getting 'cloud' storage and computing resources, stuff like database usage and streaming services, as well as some level of tech support, I'm sure. But the rest is up to you; it's just the resource for you to build/deploy your solution on. Would you like to know what the cost is for AWS for her one customer? ...[he's made the big lead up, and now for the reveal]...$80,000. A month. That's not for any man hours for people working the project, or anything else. Just the line item to be sent to Amazon. $80,000 a month.

In the mst3k.com forums, Lesley's last post was 10/27/23, and Ivan's was 10/12/23. So, as a nonmember I can't look at user pages, but I did manage to be able to search for member posts with the search function. I see Lesley's last post, and it does look like she was involved in this new funder, at least at the beginning--looking at the thread about beanie colors/prices. I don't see that recent post by Ivan though. The most recent I see is 05/18/23. His 2nd to last post is very interesting, made 04/04/23 -- ivan Producer Apr 4:Wow.

The timeline. Another terribly run part of this campaign is how it came out of nowhere. I know the first two kind of did too, but that kind of played in their favor--MST3K back from the dead! This time, not so much.
Here's some interesting dates I dug up. Almost complete silence (not including the mandatory regular excuse posts for KS reward debacle) since February. Last post from Ivan was a year and a half ago! And now, going on two weeks since the failed campaign and no announcements since.
I don't have a mst3k.com forums membership, so I can't do much there, so I can't tell if there were any newer posts from anyone there easily
Any other interesting dates you guys know?
2022
July 7 - last update form Ivan (about A tribute to GAMERA vs GUIRON)
Dec 16 - last S13 movie release (Christmas Dragon)
2023
Feb 10 - last new content, (A Tribute to I Accuse My Parents and short Doing Things for Ourselves in School)
Oct 10 - last update from Lesley (about KS2 shipping, with a final hard date of Oct 22)
Oct 24 - Crowdfund 14 launches
Nov 26 - Crowdfund 14 ends, failed to meet first goal
Nov 26 - Final update from Joel about Crowdfund 14

?? He would just start picking up glasses he'd find and trying them on to see if he could read with them or not.

So I saw that when it aired... ...well, not really, I saw it when it aired on a real tv channel as part of a holiday marathon sometime in the 80s when I was a wee lad.
Also, after the initial response, then you start to think-- calm down buddy, I'm sure there are hundreds of glasses with that prescription scattered among the remains. You're in a massive library, there might be a pair or two in that very building.

Night After Night ... It's a real shame that Comedy Central unceremoniously canceled it in 92. Ah, that would be why I don't know it. I didn't get access to CC (and find MST3K) until fall of 93. I'll have to look it up youtube.

I just want to say I loved Mike's era, too, and I'm glad they let him be "Mike" and let the show evolve to his strengths and not just be a Joel clone. Great point! And it brings us back around to the reboot -- They should have let Jonah do whatever felt right for his hosting. Except he doesn't have his own style, he's just an MST3K fanboy in an MST3K tribute band.

Also, Mike era still had invention exchanges, they just didn't bother calling them that and just did the skit. Cowboy Mike's Ricochet Barbecue Sauce, anyone?

I note your examples were all delivered by Trace and Frank. To be fair, theirs were always trying to be 'evil' so there's obviously much more room for comedy there. The Wish Squisher? Johnny Long-Torso? You're evil, EVIL!

I loved the invention exchanges, but almost always it was for the comedy not the invention. The entire Squaremaster segment is hilarious. Lederhosen hose-in. The cheese phone. Those are all funny because of the deliveries.

Reminds me of the technique where you try and write a song by first selecting a very constricting subset of notes and beats and confining yourself to them. Also works in visual arts by limiting yourself to a certain color palette and/or application process.

Was reading around some other post-campaign threads on 'the net'. Here's an interesting quote that puts it a way I haven't heard before--
