And thank you for making me explain my sarcasm. Now it's no longer hilarious, which it certainly was until now. Poe's Law

I liked the crabby jokes. But, I've always been a sucker for running jokes (They triiieeed to kill him with a forklift!)
I have seen the rifftrax version. I actually forgot and about 10 minutes in or so I'm like, "I have so totally seen this before." So, I went and found it in my RiffTrax library and watched a few minutes and, Gawd, are you guys not missing anything. I pulled it up and clicked to about 10 minutes in to the scene I had just watched--first riff out--a dick joke. Then some kind of anal wart joke. And I was like--oh right, this is why I'm all but done with RiffTrax and why I'm so glad MST3K is back.
BTW, if anyone would like to borrow my ep of the RiffTrax version, feel free to message me.

Must...resist...urge...to...point out...that...as...Korean film...Yongary...is...not...a...kaiju movie... ?? Kaiju is certainly a Japanese term, but I see no reason why the term can't be used on any movie that it describes. The beasts in Pacific Rim are actually called Kaiju in the movie.

I wasn't sure which thread to post this in, but since the gist of my post is NO new info on Season 12, this looked like the apt thread.
So...no new info on Season 12 eh? It's starting to feel like Joel really did do some finagling to get the okay to announce season 12 for Turkey Day as its no been 2 months without another peep. (Unless there has been and I missed it, and if so, please point me to it.) Like there really isn't anything in place for the next season beyond a verbal agreement with NetFlix. I don't really mind, but it would be nice to at least hear the rumblings of some movement going on, like maybe a planned release date, or month or even quarter, and maybe the expected episode count, or really anything that shows things are moving forward. I mean, until money has exchanged hands, and work begins, there really is no reason why the party's involved couldn't change their minds.

Mine arrived this morning and I managed to get both my blu-ray set and the mystery gift too, which I thought wasn't going to happen after hearing so many people saying they didn't get their mystery gift. Did you select the Mystery Gift as the main reward and the BluRay as an add-on? People who didn't get the mystery gift were people who ordered it as the add-on (like me). Which by the way they still haven't resolved. Which is really bad. As an add-on it cost specifically $100 plus shipping. It's hard to say that that was part of the KickStarter fundraising, it was a payment for a specific item that they have yet to deliver. Although, I also have no need for the weird not-really-even-from-the-show figure that is the mystery gift, so sucks either way.

See title. This was also mentioned in the other thread, but I thought I'd put it in its own thread, and with a link, cuz it is a very funny riff, and I do hope they get a bunch of views because I am definitely in the camp that thinks they've veered way off course and wish they would just do more straight riffing with just a bit of host segmenty stuff thrown in instead of what they've been doing lately which is a full blown zombie show with a few minutes of riffing here and there. I said a long time ago on their now dead forum that maybe they should pick one or the other. Or, better yet, make a new comedy-horror-puppet show separate from the ICWXP riffing show. Anyway. Watch the riff and 'like' it if you do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikJdFNwQvd0

I will probably get a box (or two). But man, those prices are pretty steep considering this is only 'Series One' which means it only covers seasons 1-3. Which means we'll have to pay these prices again for, I'm guessing, Seasons 4-7, and then 8-10. That's a lot of sets, and a lot of cash. I'm pretty sure the sets aren't going to be chronological. I see cards with Pearl, Brain Guy and Bobo, Kinga and Mike Nelson as Mike Nelson on the Kickstarter page. It looks like the Experiment cards only cover the first three seasons. If you've backed you might want to go back and reread. I don't know about some of the promo cards, but the invention exchange and the experiments specifically state they will be for Seasons 1-3 only. Just because some of the pictures show later seasons doesn't mean the pictures aren't concept art for future sets, or are just pics from some of the promos. I would bet he made sure he slipped a few pictures of Mike and Pearl in there to gloss over the fact that this set is mostly only covering a third of the show.

One of my biggest criticisms with season 11 since the Kickstarter and I still stand by it is that the restriction to use films that "look good" in HD is superficial and limiting. I understand why it was done, and I do think for the most part the HD presentations are very nice, but as a fan it doesn't sit well with me for several reasons. Personally I love the aesthetic of films from the 20's, 30's, 40's, and 50's, far more than I am of films of the 60's and 70's (though the epicness of the 80's tops all), and if I wasn't interested in watching The Deadly Mantis on that fateful day back in the late 90's I wouldn't be a fan today. To see the types of films that pretty much defined what drew me to the series pushed aside makes me cranky. I like the older movies as well. I really love the 50s Sci Fi movies. ... But I also love the 60s spy movies. And there are good 60s monster movies too. And who doesn't love the 70s/80s Star Wars / Star Trek ripoffs. Though, I was never a big fan of the crap 80s/90s movies, especially the no budget ones like Hobgolbins or Futur War (although I admit over the year the earnestness of the two leads has won me over). And I like all Giant Monster movies. So, I liked much of Season 11 from a movie standpoint even missing those older ones. But I'm am also totes on board for more classics for Season 12.

I think the 90 minute thing is more of a Joel decision. I'm guessing the eps were mostly finished before netflix had anything to do with them. Actually, knowing that they're going for netflix and not broadcast tv, it might free them up for more varied times.
Not having heard Joel's comments, I would assume they wouldn't want to do the live tour movie, because instead, they would put that out as separate DVD purchase, just like they used to do for CT or that RiffTrax does now with their live shows. I'm sure they taped some of the showings with that purpose in mind.

13 eps would match their later SciFi year seasons. As long as they're not Season 7 numbers, I'll be cool.
I'm not sure what to think about the 'NetFlix' era. First of all, Netflix didn't really pay for Season 11, the Kickstarter campaign did. But then, it doesn't look like Joel has any interest in more Kickstarters. (*I'm basing that solely on the fact that out of all the post Season 11 stuff we've heard, not once has it been brought up, to my knowledge.) But then, if NetFlix finally does pony up and pay for Season 12, and we have multiple seasons shown for multiple years on there, then it certainly fits.
An alternative era set is by main characters changing. Many people lump KTMA and season 1 together into the Josh era. Then you essentially have two eras at CC after Josh (and now with Kevin and Frank), obviously the split being the changeover from Joel to Mike. No one really talks about a separate era for Season 7 without Frank, but then it was only 6 eps (7 with the movie). But, after 7 and Trace leaving and the move to SciFi, that is definitely an era change, and the beginning of Pearl, BoBo, and Brain Guy, along with a new voice for Crow. And now of course we have the new era with Jonah, Kinga, and Max. I would also say that I would call it the same era regardless of who paid and showed it if it still had those three.
For the record, that would be 5 eras: 1) Josh - KTMA - S1 2) Joel and Frank and new Tom - S2-S5.5 3) Mike - S5.5-S7 4) New Mads and Crow S7-S10 5) Jonah, Kinga, Max and new Tom and Crow - S11+

So, this has been announced on the Turkey Day thread in main, and here in the whither season 12 thread, so check those out for the actual tday announcement. If you're not a TDay person but were a KS backer, you'll have also gotten an email update from Joel.
So, we have no details whatsoever except for the actual thumbsup from Netflix for a Season 12. This is great news and I'm very happy! Okay, having said that, back to my more pessimistic self--I think they've been floundering and Netflix has been leaving them dangle. I feel like this announcement was a treat from Joel who went to Netflix and said--hey I know you're still thinking this over and I know we're still working this all out, but c'mon. It's Turkey Day, and the KS ended on a bit of a sour note. I really want to have something to give to people for TDay.
So, that's all we know. So, let's start speculating! I'll go first--
I bet one of the bigger sticking points is budget and number of episodes. I really hope they settle on some kind of small batch releases. Like 3 ep batches released over a year period. Of course the problem here is that they might only be able to get Felicia and Patten together for one or two days throughout the year and so Joel is pushing for another big batch. I loved Kinga and Max and really want them to stay, but I think I would sacrifice that and would gladly give up the fancier puppets to have shorter faster turn around and 'live' host and theater segment recordings.

I changed my mind. Turkeys and season 12 for everyone! Except Bob. Don't tell Bob you're getting these. He'll be jealous. Whatever, I got the last piece of pumpkin pie!

That's funny because I was thinking the opposite--that it's the most positive spin he can put on the fact that no one has given them any new financing yet. So, no actual news on new eps to announce, but don't worry we haven't given up yet, see we're making a comic and we have tentative plans for another live tour some time next year. Sometimes it's good to be wrong, yay!

It does sound like they're having recurring streaming issues. Incidentally, I never got it to work once in Firefox, and it worked very well in Chrome.
